Re: What Book has been on your Goodreads/bookshelf the longest.

  • I have A Certain Slant of Light that's been on my TBR since October 24, 2008.  I think someone on here recommended it and I added it but haven't been motivated to read it yet.  I also have The Old Man and the Sea and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time since March 2009.  Both really short, and yet, nope, haven't read them.
I HATED this book.  I think I gave it away.

I debated taking it off my list, but I just haven't done it.  I might now.

The oldest on my TBR list is The Kite Runner - added 3/18/10.
I would encourage you to read this, but I didn't enjoy it in the least and because I love you, I wouldn't want to encourage you to suffer through this book.  :)
I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and though I thought it was brilliant, it was SO DEPRESSING. Which is why I haven't read this one.  That's pretty much how I'd describe The Kite Runner too. I wouldn't recommend reading that so close to finishing Code Name Verity, though. Too much sads.

  • Jackdaws by Ken Follett and The Bronze Horseman Trilogy were all added in January 2012. They're the oldest ones I haven't gotten to yet. I really need to get on them!

The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I have it sitting on a shelf waiting for me, but haven't picked it up yet.
Oh man, I hated this book so much.  I know I'm probably in the minority.

The Help.  I don't know why I haven't read it yet.  I know it was popular.  I think it's probably because I saw the movie first and now it's kind of ruined the excitement of reading the book.
I hate when this happens! You should still read it though, especially if you liked the movie! :-)
This happened to me with Memoirs of Geisha, that's also been on my to read list forever.
I listened to this and was shocked how much i actually enjoyed it!

  • A Time to Kill by John Grisham - I watched the movie before I knew it was a book and even though I know the book will be better, I can't bring myself to read it since I know what happens.

Second Glance by Jodi Picoult - I was in a JP craze at that time but now I don't really read her books.

  • The Good German and We were the Mulvaneys both since August 2008.
  • The Cather in the Rye, added Sept 2010.

The book was so much better (I know, I know, everyone says this about books vs. movies).
It's an AMAZING audiobook.  There are different readers for each voice and it is so well done.

  • Infinite Jest (technically it's on my 'on-hold' shelf), but um ya that one is going to be there awhile.

    Enclave is pretty good.

I just recently cleaned up my TBR list and got it down to about 400 books, I know there are a lot books that I should take off but can't bring myself to do it.

I'm pretty sure that I own the 4 oldest books on my list, which just makes it worse that I haven't read them:

5/28/2008 - Why Buildings Fall Down: Why Structures Fail

    6/11/2008 - A Confederacy of Dunces

6/24/2008 - Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives For 101 Days

    6/28/08 - The Red Tent

I loved The Red Tent- such an interesting book!

  • There are a whole bunch I added when I joined GR back in May of 2010 that I brought from another list I had been keeping.  Mostly classics like War and Peace.  They're not even books I'm not interested in.  I guess it's just that they tend to demand more attention from me so they're harder to pick up.  I only want to read them when I can give them all of the attention they deserve, if that makes sense.

  • I'm not very good about adding books to my TBR shelf.  The oldest are from 12/28/07 & they are books 6,7 & 8 in the Anne of Green Gables series.

Rilla of Ingleside is the best of those!
  • I've got The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, added Sept 2012.  It's a book written in the 60's about the 60's about a bunch of people who take LSD.  I am interested, but hippies generally annoy me so I keep putting it off.
