Question about Joe Hill's "Horns" (major spoilers)

OK, first, I loved the book. The writing is so strong.

But I have a question that's bugging me. Why did Ig turn into a devil? At one point he says something about that's what he is without Merrin, but that doesn't make sense. Ig wasn't evil before he met Merrin. Was he just supposed to be turning into what people thought of him? I know this is one of those vague things I'm not supposed to take literally, but it's bugging me.

I was so fascinated with the ending too, especially learning about Merrin. In a way, Lee was her savior because she didn't want to go through all of what her sister went through with the cancer. So many layers of meaning here.

  • I don't really have an answer to this lol. But now I'm curious too.

  • My take on it (and this is just my take) that yes, everyone was thinking all these awful things about him which was causing him to harbor all his anger (how he knew he didn't do it yet everyone was so sure he did) that when he woke up, it was like his anger was harnessed and if everyone was going to think he was evil, then he would be!
    Holy run on sentence.

    Did that even make sense?

When you add the pic, there's a scale to the right hand side.  It probably says 500 x 700 or something like that.  Divide both numbers by the same number and manually change both numbers (or else it will be disproportional).

It does. I mean, he turned into what everyone thought he was. All that anger was pointed at him. How sad.
