Re: Kindle Settlements

  • I didn't get anything from Amazon, but I will be getting $31.66 from Barnes and Noble.  I'm pretty excited!

  • $6.57 I'll take it. 2-3 deal books guilt-free!

  • $6.57  Honestly I'm shocked I got anything since the majority of my kindle books are free ones.  I think I really only bought books when I first got it years ago.

  • 73 cents.

ETA: I will probably get a better one from B&N, its only been within the past few weeks that I really started using the Kindle instead of my Nook.

    .73 too

Ditto! Hope we do better w/ B&N.

I got $2.19 from Amazon which I promptly spent on a $1.99 book. I was hoping for more, but I'll take it!

ETA: Woohoo, I got more from BN! $18.02. Trying to decide how to spend it...

  • I got like $.54.  :(

Maybe if you go to your Kindle store, it will show up there.  I had to search my e-mail today in order to see the notification.

  • $8.03.  My coworker got $7 and change.  I'm pleasantly surprised because I rarely buy books.  I mostly do e-library or free.

  • Ahh, that explains the promotional credit in my account. $3.51

  • I haven't checked my email yet, but what is this settlement about?

  • I haven't checked my email yet, but what is this settlement about?
    Here's what my email said:

Good news! You are entitled to a credit of $8.03 for some of your past Kindle book purchases. The credit results from legal settlements reached with publishers Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Penguin in antitrust lawsuits filed by State Attorneys General and Class Plaintiffs about the price of eBooks.
You don't have to do anything to claim your credit, we have already added your credit to your Amazon account. We will automatically apply your available credit to your next purchase of a Kindle book or print book sold by Amazon.com, regardless of publisher. The credit applied to your purchase will appear in your order summary. If your account does not reflect this credit, please contact Amazon's customer service.
For more information about the settlements, please visit www.amazon.com/ebooksettlements
Your credit is valid for one year and will expire after 03/31/2015. If you have not used your credit, we will send you another email 90 days before it expires to remind you that it is still available.

Thanks for being a Kindle customer.

  • If I remember correctly, the settlement is due to a class action suit which claimed that the publishers listed above colluded to drive up ebook prices.

I'm wondering that same thing. Especially Barnes. I buy most of my ebooks from them. So bummed! :(

If you put in your settlement ID, they'll tell you all the books you bought that were eligible.

Is this for B&N or Amazon? I'm having trouble finding the place to enter my settlement code on Amazon.
