Re: Happy Friday! What are you reading?

  • I'm reading The Husband's Secret by Lianne Moriarty. So far I'm not sure what I think- there's a ton of characters whose stories I'm still trying to get straight. It's #23 for the year.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • Shadow spell, the second book in the Nora Roberts O'Dwyer trilogy. It's ok, but not as good as the first book.

  • Bloodroot by Amy Greene.  I don't love it but I don't hate it either.

The Secret of Raven Point by Jennifer Vanderbes.  So far so good.

These are books 39 and 40 for the year.

  • I'm reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman and it's decent. It's not an adult version of Harry Potter as I had hoped. I liked the beginning part better but I'm hoping for a good ending.
I finished The Peculiar by Stefan Bauchmann on audio during my commute home this morning. I think I would have liked this book so much more if I would have read it on paper. The narrators voice was like nails on a chalkboard every time he did a fairy or woman's voice.
I'm going to start Dark Places on audio this weekend. Hopefully its good on audio!

  • Midwives by Chris Bohjalian. I just started last night, but I'm intrigued and interested to see what happens. It is #28 for the year.

  • I'm reading The King.  So far so good at about 1/3 in. #27

I'm also listening to a book that is so mediocre that I can't be bothered to remember or look up the name.   :P  #28

Me too! I am reading it slow so I can savor it. I really want to open the sp post.  It is around fifty for the year.

There was no possible way of going slow on this book.  I needed to read it all right away.

I'm slogging through this as well.  This is not her best work.
  • Re-read of Pride and Prejudice. #23/100 for the year.

  • I want to be listening to HP1 but I can't remember how to get it onto my phone so I'm almost done with Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey.  I'm going to try and figure out the download today.  Audible makes it so much easier.

I'm reading Girl of Fire and Thorns on my phone so it's been slow going.

Shadow Spell should be arriving today so I'll probably jump into that this weekend.

I'm listening to The Republic of Pirates in my car, it is #44 for the year.

I'm reading Night Broken, it is #45 for the year and it's great so far!

I'm also reading The Sixth Extinction, it is #46 for the year and I'm not far enough in to make a decision.

Are you listening to it or reading it?  I think that makes a huge difference.  I loved the audio of this book but would have hated it if I had read it.

  • I'm listening to Just Kids by Patti Smith.  I'm about halfway through and finally the story seems to be moving long.

I'm reading Shadowfever (Fever #5) Karen Marie Moning.  I already know I'm going to have a terrible book hangover after I've finished this series, it just keeps getting better!

I've been neglecting a biography on Peter the Great, its about 1000 pages, its good but I need a break.

  • I'm listening to Lost Girls: An Unsolved Mystery by Robert Kolker and I find it absolutely FASCINATING.  I've been thinking about it a lot and will probably listen to it exclusively at the gym from here on out to finish it.

I'm about to start Girl Walks into a Bar . . .: Comedy Calamities, Dating Disasters, and a Midlife Miracle
by Rachel Dratch.  I loved her on SNL and the random things she's done since then so I'm very interested to read her memoir.

Reading. I have the Kindle edition, and they don't seem to have a Whispersync option. :(

  • I'm also reading The King (#9) and Hollow City (#10). I'm like HC more than I thought I would and of course loving The King.
I'm listening to Unravel Me (reread) and I'm not liking it as much as I did the first time. I'm finding Adam to be a lot more annoying. Maybe because I know what happens in this series.
