We're in a pretty rural/religious area.  So I'm thinking that's why we're off at noon.
A lot of the local businesses are closed and the schools are all off.
Our schools are off too and next week is spring break. I don't think they should have today off considering I asked my step son and his friends why they think they had off and none of them had ANY clue. That bothered me.
Part of the reason they may have no clue, is that if they attend a public school, it is not something that is going to be taught to them. So this is on parents that don't share with their children.  Not all people are religious/Christian, so there may be no need.  I don't think that days in school should be determined on whether or not students know things...because if that's the case, they SHOULD be in school all the time.  I can teach something and one hour later, my children have no clue.

Oh, I totally blame the parents, not teachers, for kids not knowing today is a holiday. I'm Jewish and always knew why school was closed, even if it wasn't for a holiday I celebrated. I don't care whether you/your parents have you celebrate a holiday or not; I still think there should be knowledge of/appreciation for the fact that it's not just a random day off school. Maybe I'm just feeling extra "get off my lawn" today...
