WIAR: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell (NS)

I am loving this book. Love the characters, their growth, the conflict, the relationships, and the conversations. I was torn even buying it, but I liked her other books so much I decided to give it a try, even though the premise is stupid. (A guy whose full time job is to police emails?!)

I'm about 30 pages from the end, and I can't wait for lunch so I can finish.

  • YES!! Big big crush on Lincoln. I want to keep this non spoilery, so I'll just say that I love the arc of this character - the way his view of himself changes throughout the book, and also the way MY view of him changed.

This author is sort of brilliant.
  • Loved this one!

  • I just finished this morning and I loved it. One of my favorites this year. All of her references are exactly spot on and it's like she could see into my brain, as far as what I thought about all of those things.

  • I just came back from lunch. This book. THIS BOOK. I want to dip it in chocolate and eat it. I want to marry it and have ten thousand of its babies. I want to make a suit out of it and wear it for a month. Most of all, I think I want to hack into its account and surreptitiously read all of its emails.

    Lincoln. Aaahhh, Lincoln.
  • I think this was my favorite (except for on the days that Fangirl is my favorite...except I really think Attachments is my actual favorite...it's hard to choose)!

Because of this post, I started reading Attachments and finished today! I agree with everything that you said! LOVED it!

  • I just finished it.  I dunno, maybe it was all the expectations, but while I liked it, I didn't love it.

  • I just finished Fangirl, and I loved it, but also got SO hung up on the fanfic part(s).  I loved E&P, but got a little put off by the subject matter (hate reading about stuff like that).  I feel like Attachments might actually be the perfect RR for me.

This is how I felt about Fangirl as well.  I didn't mind so much that the MC  wrote Fanfic, but I didn't want to have to read the fan fic that she wrote.  I admit to skipping over the long fanfic parts.

I liked Eleanor & Park better than Fangirl.  I am hoping to like Attachments better when I finally get around to reading it.

I'm super busy at work but I have so many feels about Fangirl that I need to discuss.  I had the hardest time rating it.

I kind of minded.  I had to put up a serious mental block.

I just put Attachments on hold at B&N :)

  • @84Lauren And I completely hated that the Fan fiction was fan fiction of fan fiction!!!!  GaH!

RR had to create a fan fiction of Harry Potter so her MC could write the fan fiction of the fan fiction.  I was ready to kill someone.

  • You guys. Fan fiction is a thing. She wasn't selling the her fan fiction as a "new" BDSM story starring a billionaire playboy. It's not even real FF!

I got over it in like two chapters.

Then I guess I shouldn't tell you that @84Lauren and I have been discussing this book for a couple of days and my rating is about the same....

But I hate fanfiction in general.  I don't have any problem with people who like it (unless the selling thing), and I get that it's a thing.  But it's a thing that I personally LOATHE.

So this was a personal preference thing, not an actual objection to there being fake fanfiction in a book, but my rating is how much I liked it, and I did NOT like reading about fanfiction.  Fanfiction that existed before the real author even had a chance to finish her story!  ::shudder::

    I get it's a thing, I just can't handle it.

This is why it was SO HARD to rate this book. It was brilliant and the writing was fantastic.

    HOWEVER...

The fanfic part would get to me and I was not interested in it AT ALL.

I have been thinking about my rating for two days now.
