Do you avoid certain topics in books?
From a comment made by
@pacfan20 about books with cheating, it got me thinking. Do you disregard a book and not read it because it has a topic you don't like?

Yes, pretty much all the time
No, who cares it is just a story
Sometimes, it depends on certain things

That said, to get Wes in the habit of a bedtime story, I'm reading him Watership Down. Still, though, I can't get in the rabbit's head.
Other than that, I don't really discriminate. Murder, zombies, cheating, drugs; I'll read it.

I generally avoid books with a teacher/student relationship in them. Gross.
Sugar & Spice
I find that I hate memoirs that aren't written as humor, and avoid them like the plague. Generally, if somebody says, "you have to read This Book because it changed my whole life" I'm going to hate it.
I recently DNF a book because I saw a spoiler for the second book that after the MCs get married, the guy gets the girl's sister pregnant. Generally, I don't like to read books about cheating in marraige, especially if it's shown in a positive light.
If I happen to read a book with that subject matter (there was a fantasy book I read not long ago with that subject matter), I'll probably finish it, but feel sick every time I think of it.
I don't like reading books about cheating either. It makes me feel gross to get inside the cheater's head.
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
"I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”

A book I read last year had as its main "topics" rape, drug/alcohol abuse, poverty, hate crimes and attempted murder - and yet the thing that stuck with me the most was a small part (almost in passing) describing the death of a toddler. It KILLED me, I can't handle it.

Rape and any type of abuse involving children are red flags for me.
Dystopian (so over.)
Not a topic, but I'm kinda sick of series. YA seems esp bad about this lately. I mostly avoid them and am only picking up stand-alone novels.
Dementia/Alzheimer's ( I did read Still Alice and while it is a great book, I regret reading it. It just hits too close to home for me and freaks me out.)
I try to avoid books that portray Christianity in a negative light. To each their own, but it just isn't something I would enjoy.
I can't really think of any topics that I find too disturbing to read about or that I would avoid reading a book over. There are topics that are of no interest to me or I find boring and I would avoid books on those topics. If those topics were a small part of a larger story I would still read that book.
Also, I try to avoid death of a child, parent, or pet
