I can't think of any specific names, but I hate names that sound made up, or like the parents were trying too hard to be unique.

I don't like the "dens" (aiden, jayden, Hayden).

Also, recently someone I know names their kid jaxson. Like Jackson, but with an x.

I also have a family member who named their kid linkin. Like Lincoln, but like the band.

    For realz.

As someone in HR I have seen lots of resumes and names in general. For the love of god, don't name your kid something " younique" - stick with something real that can be spelled and pronounced. There are plenty of legitimate names to choose from.

Pretty much any girl name H likes, I don't. Like Tiffany, Amber, Misti, Ashley. No offense to anybody with those names but the 80s called and they want their names back.

Oh, and our friends were telling us about their coworker who has two kids and one on the way, named Xander, Xoe and baby Xelda.

  • There aren't really specific names, but I'm not a fan of the whole nickname thing.  Like, "we're going to name our child X but call her Y."  Then why don't you just name her Y?

Although if they name their child something and a nickname comes along, then roll with it.

This is coming from a person who loves the name James, but doesn't want to name her child it because I don't like Jim and know people would call him Jim.

This drives me nuts!  If you have no plans to ever call them the name, why give it to them.  My mom says she always regrets not just naming my sister Jenny.  She's always been Jenny and will never be a Jennifer.  But my mom says she gave in to the "but what about when they're older" convention.

Nevaeh is the worst. I've already told my boss that I can't have any kids named that in class. I will not be able to hold in my laughter. I dislike the "-ayden" names (too trendy). Anything with weird spelling.

As to the nn thing...my full name is classic, but my parents have ALWAYS used a nn for me (as in, I didn't know my full first name on the first day of school and thought the teacher forgot about me). My dad insisted that my full name be on the birth certificate because it's more formal and would look "proper" as I got older. My SIL is a Katie (not Kate, not Katherine, etc.), and she hates that it always looks too casual on resumes and diplomas.

  • I hate Gaelic names that aren't anglicized and impossible to pronounce. Even once I "know" how it is supposed to be said I have to sit there staring at it trying to remember. I also don't like names that are misspelled unless it somehow adds clarity. If you are going to name your daughter Elliot it's NMS but I don't mind you spelling it Elliette. Now I know it is a girl and I can figure out how to say it no problem. But naming your son Elleyet is just terrible.

A friend of a friend named his daughter this. Puke. Other than that, I don't know any other examples. FWIW, Baby Center has it ranked #110 in 2014, ahead of Paige, Makayla, Elise, Norah, Mary, and Kaitlyn. I weep. Weep.
