Responsibility sucks

I really just need to vent here for a minute. My husband and I have talked about starting trying for kids again for the last year and half, but something always comes up and we decided that it is more responsible to wait. First we wanted a vacation as a last big bang before commiting, then after the vacation it was paying off the car, and now my husband is getting ready to change jobs and we could be without health insurance for up to a year! Its just one thing after another. Sometimes I hate being responsible. I am 25 and we already have a 4 year old. I don't want to be 65 when my kids are all graduating from school! I want to be able to enjoy them and have time with my husband after the kids have gone off to college. He doesn't seem to even care that we have to keep putting it off, but the often reminds me of how much he is ready for more kids. Its just so frustrating seeing everyone around me get pregnant and have kids when they are completely unprepared. It always works out for them but I am not much of a risk taker and I can't justify being irresponsible and bringing a child into the world when we aren't "ready." I'm beginning to think that there is never a right time and no one is ever "ready" but I'll keep waiting for my time to be right. Unless I hit 30, then its game over. So really I just wish we hadn't waited to begin with, now I am paying the price for that... Yay me!

  • Ohhhh poppies, you're funny. I'm glad you're still sharp at your age.

  • 30 is far from old. Many women have children after 30. I'm almost 29 and still working on my first. Unless you expect your children will be repeating pretty much every grade, then you won't be anywhere near 65 when they graduate.

And you can't force your husband to want to start trying again. You both have to come to want it on your own.

  • I am turning 33 this year and I have a 10 month old.

In many ways the physicality of being pregnant is a young person's game. Physically being PG at 22 would have been good. Emotionally and mentally I am soooooo glad I am older.

Overall I would much rather have kids in my 30s than my 20s.

Focus on your current life. What can you do now to make you happy or to make a better life for your family? Do you work? Go to school? What projects can you do around the house? What fun things can you plan?

Don't wait to live your life because you are waiting to TTC. Enjoy what you have and work on making it better.

Your DH will come around or he won't - you already have one child.

I bet if you leave him alone and quit bugging him about it, he will give it more serious thought than if you keep nagging him.

  • @sweetpotato123‌ and @poppies717‌, when we all turn 30 in July we'll just take our grey, wrinkles bodies down to the local church, play some bingo and canasta, and talk about how hard it is nowadays compared to when we were young. Clearly we are well beyond responsible child bearing years! 65 with kids graduating school?! Not back when we were young!
Um, can we all please plan a giant 30th bday celebration?

    You guys are hilarious!

OP, have an honest conversation with your husband.  If he isn't ready, let it go--you still have plenty time to have another baby.  An apology to all of the "old" gals on the board may be in order.

Where was everyone when I turned 30 almost 2 years ago?! Damn my old ass!

OP: According to you, I'm pretty much screwed for carrying a child right now and giving birth after I turn 32, huh? Well damn. It just sucks that DH and I waited until after we were married (at 27 ::gasp!::)/I'd gotten laid off from my job and had to find a new one/had trouble conceiving. Now look where we are. Two apparently old fogies about to raise a baby.

If you're so responsible, then stop whining about it. No, no one is ever 100% "ready" to have kids. But you already have one, so that's something.

  • Seriously since when is 30 too old!!! I got news for you, your really not that far off. Its really not that bad. Granted its a big number to hit but 30 is acually a perfect age to have kids for a lot of people! For years i wanted to wait until i was 30. I only recently decided id like to start a little earlier, i'm 26 and my husband is going to be 29 in a few months and we have NO kids. Chill. You had your first at 21 obviously so your 6 years ahead of me!

My mom had me when she was 39. Im the youngest. And my sister is 5 years older and the one before that is 3 years older (i have 4 sisters) so that means 3 out of the 5 were born GASP after the age of 30!

My sister is 36 and just started having kids. And my oldest sister is 39 and just gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl!

Seriously, if 30 is that old just prepare my retirement home now.
