I wanted IE but A didn't like it and he was dead set against EY or Y. I was against the name Allison

This is DH and I, too, but I know that not everyone is familiar with the name, and I don't want to burden the kid with a name that he always has to correct people on. Bodhi is more spiritual, and I thought easier to pronounce, but I can see where people might say it with the long i sound. DH doesn't like that spelling as much anyway.

I would much rather see a unique or rare name than a traditional name spelled with all these extra, stupid letters just to try to be unique.

I think if you're going to go with a traditional name, own it. There's nothing wrong with that. They are classic, traditional names for a reason: because they are good, solid names. Spell them right.

I like Bode. I'm familiar with it so it doesn't seem weird to me.

I asked her why she picked that name and that's what she said. Actually she said "we wanted it to have a unique spelling."

@SusieBW Naming boys is really hard! Baby Boy is due in three weeks and our short list still contains like 10 names!

I wish we could come up with a list of 10! For DD, we had 6 or 7 names picked out, and didn't decide until a couple of hours after she was born. We want to do the same thing for baby boy, but so far we only have 3, and I'm doubting Bode. We just can't seem to agree. Our current first choice is Miles, and even then, DH likes it better spelled with a Y, and I hate it with a Y.

What's on your list, if you don't mind sharing?

I like it. I heard Bodhi and my first thought was the Dawson's Creek character. Its funny but coming up with a boy's name that we liked was far easier than coming up with DD's name.

Agreed, we have the hardest time with girls names, boys we didn't have a problem

DH shot me down when I suggested Ewan, but I completely love it. I really like a lot of those, actually. Ours are Bode, Miles and Eli. Noah was on the list, but when last years SSA list came out with Noah as #1 in the country, DH vetoed it, even though it's like #12 in our state.

I'm obviously hugely in the minority, but I am totally unfazed by baby names. I'm in favor of naming your kid whatever you feel like naming them and spelling it however you want to spell it and I'll adjust accordingly if I'm mispronouncing it.

The younique spellings and backwardsnmes are crazy. But I prefer them to stupid names. My sister was going to call her kid, if it was a girl, elephant. Well, actually it was Ella and last name sounds like phant. I can imagine the teasing the poor child would have endured.

I did some work for a middle school in my area this year and felt terrible because I couldn't pronounce half of the names on the class list. One girl was named Aeslynn and it took me four weeks to stop calling her Ashlyn.

Although, there was a girl named Topanga and that made me ridiculously happy. #BMWforever
