Happy Friday! What are you reading?

How do you like it so far? Is it for any of the challenges or just fun?

  • Still reading An Echo in The Bone. Need to finish before Tuesday. Or even better, before Sunday, so I have time to read Push Girl.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • I'm about halfway done with Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi. It's long (650+ pages) so it's taking me a while. I'm really enjoying it (well, as much as you can enjoy a true story about murder). It's interesting for sure.

    It's #35 for the year.

  • Listening to The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman.

Reading Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea  - it's for the Reading Lottery.

I'm also reading a how-to book called Stanislavski Never Wore Tap Shoes - Musical Theater Acting Craft.  It's not a book I'm reading straight through, just a chapter at a time when a get a free minute.

  • I'm reading Open Road Summer. Hope to have it done tonight. It will be #20 for the year (I think). I'm listening to The Maze Runner. It's a reread.

I also got 4 books in at the library at the same time!

I'm just a little way into Unspoken (that's the first one, right?) by Sarah Rees Brennan. The very beginning was kind of meh for me, but I'm warming up to the characters and the story.

I just started listening to All Our Yesterdays by Christin Terrell yesterday thanks to the free audiobook from Sync. I don't know if I like the narrator, and the opening sequence was not what I expected (a little too Shatter Me-esque for me), but I'm very intrigued by the premise so we'll see.

  • I'm listening to A Hidden Witch, it is #73 for the year and it's okay so far.

I'm reading still reading Code Name Verity, it is #74 for the year and I really like I just haven't had a ton of time to read lately.

I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

I started this twice, and still haven't finished it.  Once I didn't make it far at all, because I wasn't in a place where I could even handle the gruesome details of the Sharon Tate murder scene right at the beginning, and the second time, I think I got about 3/4 through before it was just too goddamn long and started to feel redundant.  I do want to finish one of these days, though.  It's kind of fascinating in a completely morbid way.
  • I'm reading The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon.  I take back the Carl Hiassen/Christopher Moore comparison I made last week, and instead I would say it's more like Vonnegut.  It's not as light as Hiassen or Moore, but definitely satirical and unique.  I'm really enjoying it.

I'm listening to Shadow and Bone (Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo.  I browsed for an audiobook at my library the other day and picked this up based solely on how much I've seen you all rave about the series.  I knew nothing about it going in, and fantasy is not really my style, but you guys have never steered me wrong - I ended up obsessed with the Demon King series thanks to you all, so I'm willing to give this one a shot since NBC seems to love it so much.  I'm about 20% in and so far, so good.
  • I'm reading Such a Pretty Fat - Jen Lancaster and listening to Fresh Off the Boat - Eddie Huang.
I think they are #23 and #24 for the year.  I'm really enjoying the Jen Lancaster book.  I needed it after reading The Dog Stars.

Oh yes, for sure.  I've been reading it at night before bed, and have had some strange dreams afterwards!  One of the pics in the book is of Manson and the crazy in his eyes really creeped me out.

  • I'm going to start Wild by Cheryl Strayed for my IRL book club this weekend. I'm not sure if this will fit a category for SBC yet.

I'm slowly reading The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom (same as last week) for the "religious book" for SBC. It's fine but it hasnt grabbed me... it puts me to sleep after 4 or 5 pages.
  • Reading This One is Mine by Maria Semple.  It's pretty good and is 25/52 for the year.

Reading The Statistical Probability of Love (at first sight?). I started it because I was flying into JFK but never actually read any of it on my trip to NYC. It's fine. I'm in the 30s for this year so far.
