What's new with you?

I feel like the board has been so slow lately and we've seemed to have lost some regulars.  Maybe we can lure some lurkers out into the open?  Sooooo....what's new with you?  Has anyone bought/sold a house?  Anyone pregnant?  Anyone just had a baby?  Going on a cool vacation?

  • None of the above, ha! I feel like we "just" had our baby although DS is 8 months old today and we're starting to think about his birthday party ;-) I know it will be here before we know it, and fall always seems so busy anyway! Between now and then we have friends and family coming to visit, we're going to IN to see my grandparents, to VA to see some friends, DH and I both have birthdays, our friends always have a huge Halloween party, and a smattering of other smaller plans. So nothing crazy exciting, but when I look at our calendar November seems right around the corner. I guess this kind of fits in with the summer seems almost over post!

  • Using tinypic.com worked great for sizing. I sized for website/email

  • My anniversary is Saturday. DH got a new bike a couple of months ago and I told him it was his anniversary/birthday/Christmas present. Now I feel bad. On a related note, I told him yesterday that 11th anniversary gift is steel and how perfect that he got a metal bike!

  • No babies here, but on a related note, we sold our glider over the weekend and doing so moved me to tears.
    :(

So many hours spent rocking 2 babies in that thing!  But the couple who bought it from us were extremely grateful as their first baby was due in 3 weeks and the glider was the last thing they needed to get ready.  I was happy that it was going to continue to be used.

Getting rid of baby stuff is soooooo hard.  Which is why I still have all of it.(I still have some newborn diapers in a box because I couldn't part with them lol)  That's great that your glider is going to live on with new babies to be rocked.

Don't feel bad, that's literally the only thing I've been able to get rid of and that's only because it was too wide to fit in our attic.  It was taking up too much space in our guest room, so I forced myself to part ways with it.

We haven't used ours since DS got a big boy bed (November).  DH wanted to put it in the basement, and I couldn't do it.  It's still in DS's room.

  • Still pregnant here, but past the halfway point, so yay! Not sure if I posted here or not, but it's another boy and I'm thrilled. :) Tim really wanted a girl, but I've found that I love being a boy mom. My sister is due the week before me, so we'll have 4 boys by thanksgiving.

Other than that, just full steam to the beach at the end of the week. I have a ton to do before then, so I'm sure these next few days will fly.

Congrats on another boy!  Personally, I LOVE having two kids of the same gender for a variety of reasons (hand-me-downs rock!).

  • It is very quiet these days - I hope we're not losing momentum! It's so great to see updated pics, and hear new baby news, etc. etc.

We bought a house May 30 - finally own a wee bit of Texas. It's mixed feelings really, but home is where you make it. We were able to get a lot for our money, and the boys have a pool now which they are loving this summer. Work is plentiful for the DH and I'm still working remote. Toying with the idea of changing industries down here - supposedly I'm receiving an offer from a new job soon (trying to get into oil & gas), but with DH's unpredicatable schedule and Sean still being pretty young (18 months), working from home is working for us. The older two are home with me this summer and it saves us quite a bit of cash.

Conall will be going to preK-4 at Gavin's school in the Fall and it's full day, 5 days a week. *angels singing*

We got to enjoy my parents' 50th anniversary in Long Island a couple of weeks ago, and we are headed to Ireland in late September for a family wedding. Other than that - just trying to keep our heads above water with being back to owning, versus renting! And trying to unpack boxes. I hate boxes. :)

  • I lurk a ton, but I'm still 'here' :)

I'm back to work after vacation and it's soooooo hard :( I need to win the lottery or something (as does everyone here, haha).

We're also starting to sell baby stuff and it's very bitter sweet. I'm fine with the decision we've made, but it still makes me sad to see our stuff go:( And I'm really not sure what I'm going to do when stuff starts selling more and DD realizes it - she loves to go down to 'her baby room' :/
  • Not much big news with us. The job I started two months ago is great. I like the people, the work, the commute. The "new" software is awesome and I feel like it's not significantly slowing me down anymore.

Heather's camp schedule is a little crazy, but she's getting to try different things and spend time with a variety of friends. Todd is at the science center this week - it's great to see him happy and confident there, with no clinginess at drop-off. I think he's going to really enjoy the challenges and new friends of Kindergarten this fall.

Heather and I just started the 5th Harry Potter book. I was going to try to take a break between books, but I can't see any reason to really.

My only frustration is that I'm having trouble making time to work on my knit and crochet designs. It's a lot slower than I would like, especially since I have up teaching. I'd also like to find time for more walks and to try yoga.

  • Brinely's summer dance session is starting up this week and she can't wait.  She loved dance class and the break was hard on her.  They had their show on June 11th and she did great.  She loved being on stage and was blowing kisses and doing her Miss America wave during the entire curtain call.  I was very impressed that throughout the entire show rehearsals she never once complained.   Not even during the LONG Saturday practices.  We had a few days where we were there for 4+ hours (part of it was sitting and waiting, but there was a lot of dancing too) yet she was always ready to go back.
She also starts kindergarten in the fall, and I think I'm more excited than she is.  She does so well with structure and routine, that summer really throws her off.

Nolan gave up his binky...and it was surprisingly easy.  One night he was super tired and he didn't ask for it so we didn't give it to him and the next day when he asked for it we told him he was a big boy and that was the end of it.  Nothing like the 4 month ordeal we had with Brinley.  And since it's been gone he's been talking NON-STOP. He's also started a "why" and "but mama/but daddy" stage which was cute the first 40 times per day :-P

DH had a spot removed off of his shoulder and it turned out to be cancerous. That hit me like a ton of brick, but upon further research, if he's going to have skin cancer, he got the "right" kind. He has to have some additional tissue removed on the 18th, but then he should be free and clear.  We'll have to watch for additional spots, but no further treatment will be needed.  I wanted to cancel our trip to Presque Isle (which is next week!) but he wanted to still go, so I bought him a big floppy hat and a rash guard shirt to wear in addition to sunscreen.

I decided to drop my second summer grad school class and just focus on relaxing and having some fun until fall.  I've also been trying like crazy to lose weight and it just isn't happening.  I have an appointment this week to start looking into it.  I have a lot of symptoms that point to hypothyroidism, and just recently found out that it runs heavily in my family.  I'd love to figure out what my function is soon.

  • Honestly nothing new with us. Pretty boring and same old same old here! Dd finished tball and still has this month for soccer. She is finally done with kindergarten. She was not a big fan of school so I'm already stressing about 1st grade since it will be full day and she hated half day K!

northhillsbride--where in Texas are you living? I moved from Texas to Pittsburgh. Although, I love Pittsburgh I miss so many things.  The two things I miss the most are:
    • Hot weather (I have yet to put on a pair of shorts this summer and usually have on long sleeves).
    • Good Mexican food!

As for me, the hubby and I are full steam ahead on some house projects, nearly finished laying floor on the 2nd level (hopefully we will be done by this weekend).  Then we can move everything out of the dining room and start on the kitchen floor.  Slowly but surely I will have my dream white kitchen with farm sink and an island!

And in exciting news, I have really been working on my fitness and as of today have lost 25 pounds!

Hi! We moved to Houston last August. I am perfectly fine with the hotter weather - I think I'm still thawing out from 39 years up North. lol The humidity, though, is a bit much at times. I also cannot get used to how cold the a/c is in the stores; you seriously need to bring a sweater to go gorcery shopping!

And yes, the Mexican food is really good. I have yet to try a crawfish boil, but that looks delicious, too!

    What part are you from?

And great job on the weight loss - maybe because you're not around the great Mexican food it helps? lol

  • We are almost done with our house updates - we just need to put the dining room back together, paint the basement, and get new carpet.  It will be nice to have some sort of organization going on in our house again (although then I won't have any excuses to avoid cleaning).

My eating was awful over the holiday weekend, but I have kept up with my water drinking and and exercising.  Our scale broke, so I have no idea how much I lost in weight, but I've lost about 9 inches. I am happy about that!

Mason starts kindergarten in the fall, and he is so excited, so that makes me happy.  That being said, I am totally not ready!  It's not going to be pretty for me.

  • Congrats denalea!!! How exciting. Hope you are feeling well. :)
