So the Harry Potter books are only available through my library in MP3 format.  Can I get that on my iPod?

    MP3 should work on ipod.
Easy way to check is go to overdrive on your ipod (assuming it's a touch) and it will only show you ipod compatible audiobooks.

    Ah.
It should work fine with mp3 format as that is compatible with apple products. :)
