This post will be PIP heavy for a bit at the end. I will *poof* pics later on today!
Amazing. Seriously amazing. We were able to check in at our hotel when we arrived (8:45 a.m.), so we took a nap and then headed toward the Louvre to walk around and kind of take in some of the city. It was raining, so we had lunch before going to Musee de l'Orangerie. This was one of my favorite places! The oval rooms with the Monets are so beautiful. It's hard to describe the feeling you get when you walk into those rooms. We walked down the Champs Elysees and met DH's colleague and her DH for dinner on St. Germain.
Our second day was our Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame day. We walked up to the second floor of the tower because both DH and I have issues with heights. I was so happy it was sunny and warm when we did the tower. Notre Dame was beautiful, but after visiting St. Peter's and the Vatican, I was underwhelmed. I feel bad admitting that.
The guy I was supposed to travel with wanted to hang out at the Arc de Triomphe all day and take pics with his drone and GoPro, so I ditched that plan and headed to Musee d'Orsay on my own for the third day. I love Monet, and they have a great collection, but the Van Gogh exhibit was closed. Womp womp. I headed to the Musee de Vin after that, and it was super creepy and lame. The wine was good, but the museum itself was not at all what I expected. Oh well. I got caught in a torrential downpour walking to the Metro, in white pants nonetheless. Awesome.
On the fourth day I traveled out to Versailles by bus on my own and spent the entire day there. It was my favorite part of the whole trip even though it rained, the fountains were off, and they were doing construction in the gardens. The palace is extravagant to say the least, but I loved the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon. They were smaller but still incredibly extravagant. I'm glad I spent so much time there. That night DH and I went out with some of his Parisian colleagues, and we drank a lot of beer and wine and tried foie gras. So gross, but DH liked it. We had a good time with them!
One of DH's colleagues told us that if we weren't art fans, we should go to Galeries Lafayette for some shopping. It's a 5-story shopping mall with a gorgeous glass dome and a terrace with views of Paris. We had a lot of fun looking around and people watching. I may have also purchased a purse :-D
I can't wait to go back. DH will probably have to return within the next 9-12 months, so depending on what happens with our adoption schedule, I'm hoping to return, too. I found the people to be very nice, the Metro easy to navigate, and the food and wine to be top notch. I think I'm officially a Europhile.
