At first I was going to say that nothing beats homemade. Then, I thought about it, and came up with puffed pastry. I've never made it myself because Food Network tells me that it's not worth the crazy time consuming process and that store bought it the way to go.
A Cuban dish I like called Ropa Vieja. H and I have tried to make it like 5 times, using different recipes, tweaking ones we've already tried and we can never get the correct flavor.
@minionlover , I've got a recipe for chicken tikka masala that cooks in the crockpot and tastes just as good as the restaurant version. It doesn't ALL have to be tedious!

I had an answer for this from recent experience. Bread bowls. I constantly get them if H and I go to Panera. We attempted making them ourselves while home the one day. Nope. Too yeasty for my liking.
I think the only thing that tests better store bought is cream filled croissants dipped in chocolate...only because I haven't attempted to make them myself yet! I consider myself a pretty good cook so I prefer to make as much as possible.
