We haven't done this in awhile and I'm trying to add a little life back to the board...

Are you TTC or TTA right now?

Do you have any LOs already?

How long have you been trying?

What made you decide to start trying?

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility?

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles?

Tell us all about it!

Etc, etc, etc.. :)

I got off the pill in October 2008 due to it causing my blood pressure to raise. We decided to officially start trying in December 08 when some of our good friends started trying.  I always had irregular cycles pre-bcp (which is why I got on the pill) but once I got off, my cycles were non-existent. After 6 months, I finally started to spot.. and that spotting lasted 5 weeks. I went on a month of bcp to stop the bleeding. Repeat all this 6 months later. Diagnosed with PCOS. Had an HSG done and discovered both tubes were totally blocked by polyps so I had lap surgery to open both tubes and treat mild endo at the same time with hopes that I would start having cycles. No dice.

From then on, I started just going every 60-90 days and getting a progesterone shot (until I developed an allergy) or Provera to bring on AF

We finally did one Clomid IUI cycle and I responded, but didn't get knocked up. Then we tried another cycle of Clomid, but I had severe visual disturbances and had to cease Clomid. I never ovulated so it was a wasted cycle. I am not allowed to do Clomid again, due to the severity of the visual side effects, which they said had potential to be permanent. Whatever.

We did our first injectables cycle in spring '13. Everything was perfect, but it just wasn't our month. We have one more injects cycle in the future, then we're staring down IVF if we stay with our current RE. If that cycle fails, we'll most likely find a doc who will do Femara and go down that road.

We've been really slow in our treatments. I've had I think 3 "natural" cycles over the course of close to 6 years now. In the meantime, I just started doing Vitex essential oil every night in hopes that maybe it'll help. I'm also looking into FertilTea. I'm really at a loss as to why my body won't do what it should. Or even do what it did years ago and at least give me irregular cycles.

So here we are. Approaching 6 long years of TTC with nothing to show for it. I've had friends who've had 3 babies and have completed their families since we started trying. My brother and SIL have had their first and we've been trying longer than they've been married. So it goes! Our time WILL come!

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

  • Ha- I don't know that I am a good place to do this today, but here goes.

Are you TTC or TTA right now? Neither?  We aren't TTA, but of course we don't have any hope of conceiving without intervention

Do you have any LOs already?  Just furbabies

How long have you been trying? A few months after we met we stopped preventing.  That was in '05

What made you decide to start trying?  We both really wanted children

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Nothing at this time, we did a lot of stuff when we were early in the process (pomg juice, pineapple core)

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles?  We did 5-6 IUIs and 2 IVFs, which resulted in one pregnancy that was lost at the end of first tri.  We are working to become foster parents currently

  • I never had regular cycles when I was younger, so I went on BC at age 16.  I came off of it in June 2011, right after we got married.  I didn't have a cycle on my own, so went in to see the doctor.  They said it looked like PCOS and gave me Provera to start a cycle.  I also ended up going on 1000 mg of Metformin.  I still wasn't having periods on my own, so my OB referred me to an RE.

We met with the RE in May 2012 and went through all the testing.  He agreed that it looked like PCOS.  We decided to try a round of Clomid/IUI.  That cycle ended up being cancelled because I didn't respond to the Clomid at all.  Since my insurance covered no treatment, we just waited and were hopeful I would have cycles.  I still didn't and had to get Provera to start them.

I met with a new OB in Sept or Oct of 2012 and she suggested we try upping the Metformin to 1500 mg.  After doing this, I finally started having cycles on my own.  They were irregular and long, but I was still having them!  I then decided to start trying acupuncture in Jan 2013.  By going to acupuncture just once a week, she really got my cycles more normal and regulated and I even started ovulating around day 19....which was amazing for me!  I tracked my cycles and used OPKs, but still no BFP.

We did another treatment cycle in July 2013, this time with Femara.  I did respond this time and everything was perfect, but it still failed.

    *****PR*****

I ended up getting my BFP the month after our failed treatment cycle.  It was a complete surprise to me because I never thought I would get pregnant without treatment.  He was born May 9, 2014 and we are now TTA.

  • Are you TTC or TTA right now? N/A

Do you have any LOs already? One on the way.

How long have you been trying? We tried for 15 months before having a successful pregnancy.

What made you decide to start trying?  I was on birth control for about 9 years before deciding to get off of it a couple of months after our wedding (October 2012). They had switched me to many different types in that time, because the side affects were getting worse.
We had originally planned to use Natural Family Planning to avoid, but then I never got a period after getting off BC.  So in January 2013 we decided to NTNP, because I wasn't getting cycles.  We decided that we really had nothing holding us back from TTC, and were both ready for it whenever we were to get pregnant.  In February 2013 I started charting so we could see what my body was doing and get more serious about what was going on.  April was when we officially would say we were trying to get pregnant.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility?  I ended up doing a mix of PCOS and gluten free diet, and got very serious about every aspect of it in March 2014. No alcohol, no caffeine, no gluten, little sugar, 1,800 calories/day, exercise 5 days/week, and a B complex vitamin.  Among all the other things associated with it.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles?  I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2014, and was told we could do treatment whenever we were ready.  In September 2014 we did a round of Clomid.  That resulted in a BFP, but we miscarried at 5w6d.  My H was not up for treatment again right away, and we did not have any insurance coverage for it.

    ***PR & LR**** (Long)

After the loss we had a really hard time figuring out what our next move would be.  We knew Clomid worked, but after the testing, treatment, and loss that most of which weren't covered by insurance, we had almost drained our "baby" savings and couldn't afford to do another round.  My H was afraid of going through treatment again and it ending the same way, so we decided to NTNP from December 2013-February 2014.  In January 2014 I started the PCOS diet to give myself something to work at in hopes that maybe I could get some cycles.  I had a 50 day cycle and our timing was perfect.  That cycle had an unusually long LP, and we swore we saw a faint 2nd line at 15DPO but it never showed up again when I tested later.  That AF was heavy and very abnormal so I called the Dr.  They did beta's and it came back at a 6.  They considered it a chemical pregnancy.
At that point I couldn't take any more. H wasn't ready to move forward with treatment, and I wasn't mentally okay with getting pregnant again or going through another loss.  So we decided to TTA, and in the meantime I would focus more on the PCOS diet and training for my next half marathon while H focused on us getting out of debt and projects done at home.
Once I went 100% gluten free in March, I started having a regular cycle.  In April I started seeing a therapist because I still couldn't get through the grocery store or a run without having a panic attack about our loss.  In May H and I had a very difficult discussion about the possibility of us not having kids since he never wanted to go through treatment again, and we didn't know if these cycles were just a fluke or would be the norm on this diet.  We decided to have a discussion with our pastor to make us feel better about what our future would hold, and help us discuss the decisions we were making.  After that discussion we had 5 days off of work for a "staycation," and some friends were coming in from out of town to visit.  We decided to not prevent nor for me to do any part of my diet during that 5 day vacation, and we would not discuss TTC or treatment.  We were fortunate enough to have a BFP at the end of that cycle.

We will likely not go through treatment again.

Are you TTC or TTA right now? N/A

Do you have any LOs already? Yes, a nearly one year old daughter and a son on the way.

How long have you been trying? I guess we technically tried for 4-5 months with our daughter, but we started out as NNT and got our BFP in the second month we switched to actively TTC. With our son we got our BFP in our first cycle.

What made you decide to start trying? It was just time I guess, idk. That's tough to answer.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? I just charted (without temping). It helped me realize by looking at patterns that I ovulate on the "later" side (CD19-20).

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? No.

How long have you been trying? We tried for 19 months before our BFP

What made you decide to start trying? We settled into our home and balanced our finances. We both really wanted a baby before I switched careers so we started trying Dec 2012 thinking it would happen fast.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? I consulted with an RE and did the BW, U/S, HCG. We were about to move onto IUI when DH decided he wasn't ready for that. Instead I started acupuncture and did that for 2 months and got my BFP from there.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? I would have but DH was not comfortable with it at all so we held off on it.

What made you decide to start trying?
We knew all along we would try once we were married. (I was 33 when we got married, and we wanted 2 or 3 kids)

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility?
We went to the RE and did all the testing. I had a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy to remove several polyps from my ute.

Once cleared from surgery, we were just waiting on CD1 to begin clomid for our first IUI. Surprise BFP instead!

How long have you been trying?
We have been at this for 2 years and 8 months. :-(

What made you decide to start trying?
We want a family. We always wanted 2, but we've mentally adjusted the dream to just one. We wanted to be in stable jobs with a house.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility?
Nope, but like @Aimothy, I've done it all. I've taken vitamins. I've stopped drinking (alcohol and caffeine). We've used preseed. We've done it every way we can think of. I have stayed in bed with my hips elevated and/or my legs up the wall. I've gone on (multiple) vacations. I've prayed. I've "stopped trying." I've done Clomid, IUI, and IVF. And now I've tried to "just" adopt. Still no baby, not that we are adopting so I'll get pregnant, but I know you've all heard that if you adopt, you'll get pregnant.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles?

    LR

I did 4 Clomid cycles, 1 IUI. Good response and numbers, no success.
We did 2 fresh IVF cycles, 6 eggs total, 3 embryos total. One perfect embryo decided to stay until 6 weeks 2 days and left us on 3/16/14. After considering the financial cost and my low response, we decided to pursue DIA. It just wasn't worth it financially to drop $15,000 on a chance.

Do you have any LOs already? 3 adorable fur babies (lab - Kit, boxer - Abby, mini-mutt - Kaleah)

How long have you been trying? Started NNT in July 2010 (after hepatic adenoma was found and felt to be due to long-term BC use); started actively TTC in March 2012.

What made you decide to start trying? Like PP's, I just have always known I wanted to be a mom. I have worked as a nanny, daycare provider, preschool teacher, respite provider, pediatric nurse, and now pediatric nurse practitioner, and I've always wanted one (or several) of my own to go home to.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Temping, OPKs, TI, turkey basting, supplements (DHEA, CoQ10, vitamin D, etc.), eliminating caffeine, "relaxing", etc., etc.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? We did 2 cycles IUI with first RE (both a bust - poor response, thinned lining), then switched to new RE (literaly next door, lol). There, I had a huge work-up and was started on several supplements and prescription meds to get things "right". Once my immune function/clotting labs were all normalized, we moved forward with IVF. ET of two 5-day blasts (no frosties), and now, pregnant at last.

  • Sending you love @islandmonkey8

Are you TTC or TTA right now? Neither.  We're not doing anything to prevent or to "try". I am not interested in a surprise pregnancy after 40, which is in February, so I have some decisions to make about birth control. It's weird to think about trying to prevent after TTC, but I don't want kids in my house when I'm trying to retire :)

Do you have any LOs already? Just furbabies (Boomer, chocolate lab, 4; Gaius, orange cat; 5; Fergus, striped gey cat, 3)

How long have you been trying? 3.5 years

What made you decide to start trying? We were old (35 and 38)when we got married.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Not anymore.  We tried on our own for about 1.5 years and then sought out an RE.  We found out through testing that DH's sperm isn't great.  We did one unsuccessful IUI and decided to stop TTC.  Compared to others, we didn't do much, but we're okay with our decision.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? Just the injections with our IUI.

    Loss mentioned

Are you TTC or TTA right now? TTC since January.  We got a BFP on our first cycle trying, but ended in a loss.  Our Dr. said that it was a good sign that we got pregnant right away and that TTC should be a breeze.  Since then, I have had long, unpredictable cycles and no luck getting pregnant.

Do you have any LOs already? We have a furbaby who actually gets to come to school with me each day as a therapy dog.

How long have you been trying? 9 months

What made you decide to start trying? We knew we wanted to start trying for a family right away.  It is DH's second marriage and I want nothing more than to be a mom--like all of you.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? PNV, temping, and OPK's.  I am currently trying to lose weight to try to hopefully get cycles regulated and then, if needed, be in better shape for treatments (per doctor request).

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? I have had to take provera to start cycles--but that's it thus far.  I am def. open to other options, though.

  • Thinking of you, @islandmonkey8 <3

Are you TTC or TTA right now? TTC

Do you have any LOs already? Two kitties, Apollo (4) and Artemis (3)

How long have you been trying? We started last cycle, and I'm waiting to ovulate now, so about a month and a half, I guess.

What made you decide to start trying? We've both always wanted to be parents. DH was ready to try when we got married 2 years ago, but I made him wait until we had reached some financial goals and until I felt ready. We hit our goals at the end of July, and that ended up being all I needed to feel ready.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? I got sick of my BCP side effects in April 2013 and switched to FAM/charting to avoid, so I've stuck with charting for TTC. We're also using Pre-Seed this cycle (which I probably don't need, but DH went a little crazy on Amazon...) and I'm laying around with a pillow under my butt for half an hour after we DTD. I've also cut way back on caffeine and soda, in part to help with fertility, but mostly so I don't have to go cold turkey if I get KU soon.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? We're hoping we won't need to, because we don't know if we'll be able to afford it. Not opposed, though, if things don't go as planned that's what we decide is best down the road.

  • Are you TTC or TTA right now? TTA

Do you have any LOs already? Only angels

How long have you been trying? Started TTC July 2012, made the decision to stop September 2013 after 4 losses.

What made you decide to start trying? Been married for 3 years at the time, just seemed like the right time.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Did acupuncture, pomegranate juice, temping, OPKs, charting.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? Did not.

    Tell us all about it!

We started TTC in July 2012. I became pregnant the first month but had a missed m/c in September 2012. I had 3 more pregnancies the following year, all of which ended in early losses. We decided to TTA while we bought a house and took a break. Hoping to pursue adoption in the semi-near future.

  • We are currently in the process of suffering a miscarriage of triplets.

I have one amazing daughter who is 1.5.

We started ttc for our first in the summer of 2010. We started trying for our current failed pregnancy in May of 2015.

We knew we wanted children and the time was right for us.

I charted - temps, opks, checked cm.

We tried a few cycles of Clomid which resulted in ovulation, but no pregnancies.

  • Are you TTC or TTA right now? Nope

Do you have any LOs already? Stinkoman will be 1 on the 27th

How long have you been trying? We tried for almost 2 years

What made you decide to start trying? We both really wanted to have children

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Not at the moment

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? We did two rounds of clomid, the second resulted in a bfp, but ended in a m/c.

    *BR*

We both really wanted to have kids, so we started trying right after we got married. I got pg about two months later, but had a m/c at 9 weeks. We took a break for a few months and started trying again, and I got pg again, and another m/c at 10 weeks. I decided to meet with an RE to see if there was a reason I couldn't stay pg. Both H and I went through lots of testing, and everything seemed fine. I had an hsg and was told I had a uterine septum and a blocked tube, so I had surgery to correct those.

We took another break for about 6 months, then tried clomid, got another bfp, had another m/c. We took another 6 month break and NNT for a bit, then I got pg in Jan 2013. I met with my RE and she said she had a lot of luck with women who had repeat unexplained losses and treating them as if they had a blood clotting disorder. I began daily injections of blood thinners, progesterone suppositories, baby aspirin, and increased folic acid, and that seemed to do the trick. I gave birth to my son a day before my due date.

In a lot of ways, I'm terrified to try for another, because I don't know if I can deal with the heartbreak if we have repeat losses again. Right now I'm just enjoying my LO.

How long have you been trying? N/A

What made you decide to start trying? I have always wanted to be a mother and it's been tough to talk to DH about trying and all my fears. I'm not getting any younger and the older I get, the less likely I am to get KU. So we plan on starting TTC beginning of next June. I am planning on having my Mirena removed mid-May. At that point I will have been off my arthritis meds for almost a year, which should greatly reduce the chance of any neural tube defects.

Are you doing anything special to help with fertility? Right now I'm trying to lose weight. I'm sure I'll do a bunch of tracking via FF and may try some of those teas everyone is talking about. I'll probably have a chat, too, with my OB as to when we should get help if we haven't conceived.

Have you done/will you do any medicated cycles? N/A
