Re: Monday Accountability Post

  • 1. Just ok. We used an old gift card to Legal Seafood and went $30 over. We also filled up both gas tanks, and I spent $15 at a dive industry event (but won a gift card of the same value). H spent budgeted grocery money.

    2. Not this weekend. I made $75 teaching a dive class that will probably go to debt, but won't see it for awhile. H also had his life insurance health checkup.

I did progress towards a non-financial goal-I had my first major grant proposal funded at work :) This helps secure my position as full time for 2 more years. Woohoo!

    3. I can't stop thinking about going back to Bonaire. I know we need to pay off our cars first, but I google travel packages every day on my lunch break.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not terrible. We spent about $75 unplanned. I got a new pair of yoga pants and we picked up some books my mother had been asking for. She will be paying us back $35 in a few days.

    2. Any progress towards your goals? Nothing this week. But we earned an extra $110 yesterday by doing 7+ hours of transportation for the school, I make $35 on Tuesday for my babysitting this month and I also agreed to take on a project for my mom that will make us an extra $100 on 10/15. Plus I am proctoring the SAT's for $100 and babysitting a whole weekend for $230 this month as well. I am excited about all the odd jobs we have been able to do.

    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not)? A new (to us) car. My poor ford focus is in rough shape now that it is 8 years old. I know it will last us another year or two while we save up to buy one in cash. I just feel like it has served me well and I am excited to get something a little more reliable. Plus as a one car family if that car goes before we can get cash for a new one we will be in a serious bind and I would hate to get another loan.

  • Morning! Is it Friday yet?

    1. Friday- $0

Saturday- $100 ($50 rebate to come) + $30 activation fee for new cell phone (I got our       plan got lowered by $20/mo!)

                         $25 Chinese food

        Sunday- $15 Kohls for H

    2. Got my first paycheck from the second job so $130 to savings

    3. I'm craving a damn house

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($130), supplies for the girls' halloween costumes ($35), Target ($170)
    2. Any progress towards your goals? We got a second coat of paint on our bedroom. I'm going to pick up a 3x5 rug from Pottery Barn during lunch today and we'll put it in our sitting area to see if we like it. If we do, we'll return it and buy the 8x10 and 3x5 after we open their credit card- the points seem too good to pass up. We'll probably look at mattresses this weekend when my parents are up and can watch the girls for us.
    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not) - newer cars for DH and me. Mine is 11 years old (honda civic), DH's is 8 (subaru outback)- they're in good shape though and we spent about $3,000 this year on repairs for both so it'll be a few years before we get newer ones.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Meh.

Friday lunch - $30, Lowe's for upright freezer and gardening stuff - $600, old Navy for 3 nursing tanks and a cardigan - $35, zulilly for a nursing bra - $40. H found his play toy (94 jeep Cherokee) for $1700 out of his money he saved.

Saturday - taco bell for dinner $20

Sunday - groceries $80, Shutterfly photo book of our family pictures $35

    2. Any progress towards your goals? Nope, just getting by without H getting paid for 2 weeks.

    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not)

A van. We're looking at getting one in the summer... But a lot of things has to happen. I will miss my jeep though.

Friday-$30 on margaritas and nachos for girl's night (my friend and I were going to split the bill, but the waitress disappeared with my card before my friend could get her's out...a little annoyed, but my friend will cover me next time)
    Saturday-$0
    Sunday $94 groceries
    2. Any progress towards your goals?
we've paid all bills for the month, so today I'm divying up what's left into our various savings accounts

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Good.  $65 on groceries, $55 on gas, and $75 at garage sales for baby items.  Including a $150 jumper for $50, that was barely used.
    2. Any progress towards your goals?  Just money into savings for now.
    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not)  Haha, Bavarian creme filled donut with chocolate icing.  Preferably with sprinkles on top too.  I had one Saturday and it was amazing, but just flipped the switch on the craving and now that's all I want.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Bad. I went $30 over my budget on groceries (however, I made a ton of freezer to crockpot meals that will stock our freezer through fall, so maybe that is ok?)  We bought an armoire (sp?) off of a Facebook yard sale  for $180 (BUT... it basically gave us an extra closet and I'm in love with it).  Then I bought a few songs on iTunes for my half marathon play list.  (My half marathon is in two weeks, and I feel I need it to get me through.)  HA!  Can you tell I'm full of excuses today?

    2. Any progress towards your goals? Not this week.

    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not) Oh!  I so want to go out and buy new boots, a bunch of scarves, and a new purse for fall.

  • 1 - pretty good!  Dinner out - $33, Lowes - $7, Target - $132, Dollar General - $1.50

2 - sold a couple things on CL this weekend and made $190 which will go into the basement fund

3 - I don't really have a splurge craving right now, but how awesome would it be just to go on a shop binge for fall clothes/shoes - things I use to do before having a kid. LOL.

  • @brij2006, what half marathon did you do yesterday!?
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Pretty good, finally!  We went to an out-of-town wedding, and H arranged several meals out with friends we haven't seen in awhile.  Still, we managed to get by with 2 tanks of gas (still within our monthly budget), $65 for food, $14 for uber, and then about $85 for groceries when we got back.  It was a relief not to have a multi-hundred-dollar house purchase this week!

I did just buy a groupon for the Moscow ballet's nutcracker - their touring company is coming to my city in November!  That was unexpected, but it did fall within our allotment for entertainment this month, and H agreed to use our entertainment budget for those tickets because it's such a rare opportunity.  I'm pumped!
    2. Any progress towards your goals?

Since H passed the bar, I can finally set a firm budget for October since we know he's not losing his job in the next couple of weeks... that's a relief!

    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not)
Probably a vacation to recover from the last two months we've had.  We are discussing trips for 2015, and nothing is set in stone... but it looks like we'll probably be heading overseas again (while we still can).  That's super exciting, but it makes me tired to think about it right now because the last two months have been amazing but pretty stressful. All I want right now is a beach and/or cruise ship at the moment!  Specifically, I've been eyeing this particular cruise on vacationstogo that leaves from San Juan, PR and travels over Thanksgiving.... must stay strong.

The cruises out of San Juan are amazing.  I've done two with similar itineraries of St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts, etc.  So many beautiful islands and beaches!
    Ahhhh not helping!  Haha :)

Yeah, seriously - that's totally on our short list of vacations.  Vacationstogo has great prices!  Now if only we could take the time off work...  I've never been to PR, and it looks like you get to see some islands that are too far south for the FL itineraries!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not good at all! I was out of town this weekend, but did have a great time and didn't resort to swiping my debit card so could have been way worse. Totally back on track now though, especially with tomorrow being the end of the quarter and a payday.

    2. Any progress towards your goals? Same ol' same ol' just sacking everything I can away for savings. I'm VERY close to a zero net worth and will count everything up tomorrow for the end of the quarter so I'm very excited about that!

    3. What splurge are you most craving right now (financial or not): Financial: To be able to quit the Frat Mom gig and get an apartment. I could probably do it, I'm just scared and this is really too good financially to quit.

The training honestly gets easier the more of them you do.  This was my 2nd one for 2014, but my 4th one in the last 3 years.  Now it almost feels like anything 9 miles or under is nothing.
Can't lie though, the eating is just plain amazing!  I haven't felt the least bit guilty caving in on the cravings, because I know that I'm burning more than enough calories to make up for it.

A freaking vacation! My mom has been dealing with chemo, surgeries, etc all summer so we put our stuff on hold. I couldn't imagine something happening and us being on vacation. Also I don't have a ton of sick or vacation time left with being at the hospital for surgery, taking time off for chemo, etc. We live 2hrs away.

  • @bnunn03 What a small world!  Where do you live at?  I'm near the Sterling/Rock Falls area on the Illinois side in a teeny tiny town.

Last year I did the marathon relay there and loved it.  So this year I did the half marathon, but it was my 2nd one of 2014.  My time was really bad, but I'm almost 20 weeks pregnant.  So training was definitely rough.  I did it in 3:14, but my normal time is around 2:30.

  • @bnunn03 It was definitely warmer than normal.  I remember 2 years ago it being freezing with gloves on and everything.

The Bix honestly scares me.  So many hills!  It's not even the Brady Street hill that scares me, it's all of the hills during the rest of the course.  My H keeps trying to convince me that we should train together for it next year, but I can't pull myself to do it.

  • Mama8503 so cute! Your photographer is awesome.

Our weekend: Sunday spent $40 going to a county fair. Saturday spent $40 on a scentsy warmer. Spent $40 garage sale-ing and $20 for breakfast. Friday spent $90 on jam berry (my mommies group is going to be so not good for the budget. I had heard of these before but never tried and they are amazing!) that I am considering a late birthday present to myself.

No progress on goals, however we found out who our mortgage company is- roundpoint mortgage. Anybody ever ended up having their mortgage sold to them? They do a lot of debt collecting which scares the crap out of me- so to answer the next question, I want to pay off the mortgage ASAP. The reviews online were just horrible about them and even though the mortgage is very comfortable for us, I'm now somewhat worried that somehow they are going to screw us and try to take the house from us.

YAY NUTCRACKER (admitted bunhead here) Love Moscow Ballet!
Right?  It's just not the holidays without it.... (confession: I usually start listening to the soundtrack in October....)
the music is so beautiful. This will be the first year in a while I'm not in some version of it...watching makes me a little sad.
