I dunno. I'm more interested in how they will handle the rest of this season. It sure is going to be a downer of a second half! I wonder if they are going to show THE scene, and if it will be as controversial as it was in the books.

I haven't re-read the first book for a while so this could be a really dumb question. Was Claire raped in Outlander. I didn't remember that she was so I was kind of surprised when it happened in the show.

@dmlk413 I don't remember Claire being raped in Outlander either, but I am really fuzzy on all of the details from the first book. I guess the episode this weekend made me remember just how many rapes there are throughout the series and I really don't want to watch any of it. It was always one of the things about the books that bothered me, but having to watch it happen makes it even worse. I know that after how bad the flogging scene was they are going to be graphic with Randall and Jamie when the time comes.

I wasn't very happy with this episode. It's the first one that I don't care if I watch it again to see what I missed or not.

We did get to see Roger finally! So yay for that? I am very curious as to how they are going to handle the next season. Not so much the end of the first season, but the next book.

I haven't watched the episode, but no, she wasn't raped in Outlander. I've only watched the first two episodes. It is hard for me to read the graphic parts, so I don't know that I can handle the upcoming scenes.

I thought she was only almost raped (not that that is a real thing) in the book, I didn't get the sense that she was actually, um...penetrated. (Ugh, sorry.)

@Lauren620 I'm nervous about what they'll do with the next book because DIA is one of my favorites. If they ruin it, I will be so mad.

I would only admit this here (because I think I would get flogged on any other fan site) but I'm not super in love with the show. It's fine and I'll probably keep watching it but....the book was better (there I said it!).

Also, there was not nearly enough Dougal in this episode.

She wasn't raped in Outlander. She just let him get as close as possible so she could stab him. That's what I assume happened in the show although I don't think they made it very clear.

I HATED HOW THIS SCENE WAS PORTRAYED. It was really poorly directed too.

She wasn't raped. She actually gave Jamie a look to not interfere, grabbed the guy closer, then stabbed him in the kidney. She was kinda badass about it, which they totally didn't portray in the show.

No flogging. The book IS better. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly not a real fan. Yep, I said that.

I don't know, I am conflicted on the frank stuff. I kind of liked to see what he was doing but it took away from the Claire/Jamie time. We kind of missed them really falling in love and now I feel like they're going to turn it into a love triangle....I have read other comments of people saying they like frank better than Jamie which makes me think something is not right. I really have enjoyed the show up to this point.

This episode was SO BAD. They could easily, easily have cut out all that Frank bullshit and then gotten through the rescue and gotten through to them getting back to Leoch, as a really good stopping point for the half-season. Instead, they cut it off at the WORST possible part - WHAT THE FUUUUUCK. I threw a pillow at the TV.

I hated the way they portrayed Claire throughout this. She was SUCH a badass during the "rape" (I didn't think she was raped in the show, just close), but in the show she totally freaks out. That line where Dougal comes up and tells Jamie he should be more careful and Claire laughs hysterically? Loved it. Was it in the show? OF COURSE FUCKING NOT.

NO POST-RAID SEX SCENE??? That remains one of my top 3 favorites even after 8 books, and they cut it. Fuck you very much, Starz.

I said this last week too - but if they are sticking to their one season per book plan, they are failing. They only made it through 30% of the book, and the WORST 30% of the book at that. Not because they've been carefully including every detail from the book, but because they are ADDING all kinds of unneccesary bullshit. If there is seriously ONE more fucking Frank scene I am going to vomit.

Wow, I think typing this got me even more worked up than I was last night when I watched, haha!

I watched this on Saturday night and @84Lauren and @MrsJenE were getting incredibly ragey texts throughout the whole thing. Those were followed by an all caps rant fest when it was over, similar in nature and enthusiasm to when I finished Allegiant. Some of you might remember how I felt about that book. I would say that's exactly how I felt about Outlander, Season 1, Episode 8, for all the reasons that Lauren mentioned and also because I am convinced that Ronald Moore doesn't really know how this book ends. WHAT IS THIS? THE FRANK SHOW? NO.

Claire and Jamie are not connecting. Their bond sucks. And then after the episode, RM said he made a big deal about Claire/Frank at the stones because he wanted to keep fans of the book guessing. Seriously? No one in their right mind who has read the series actually believed that Claire was going to go back through the stones. Because then what? Diana writes a new series starring Frank? That was a dumb fucking thing to say.

Also, RM obviously didn't do his research to figure out what fans consider their favorite parts and their favorite quotes. It's like everyone forgot about the fact that this book has a huge fan base that might become seriously disappointed when they don't see the their favorite scenes reenacted.

Yeah, I don't think that people (non-book readers) will be able to get past Claire's "punishment" solely based on what we've seen in the show. Or are they going to skip that part completely?

We are missing out on so much! At no point did I think we were going to get every scene from an 800+ page book in one TV season, but I didn't think it would be because we had to watch fucking Frank (can we just call him that now?) all the damn time. We still need to meet so many people and wonderful characters. More of that please!

They're not doing this for the book fans though. They're trying to develop the relationship between Claire and Frank for the non-book fans so they understand exactly why she wanted to go back in the first place.

I don't think it will. I think they're going to have to focus on Jamie and Claire from here. We have 8 episodes left to develop it.

I also read somewhere along the line that DIA is only going to be 13 episodes.

I think going to the 1700s without plumbing and not getting to bathe regularly is reason enough to try to get back to your time. No need to try and throw Frank in our faces!

There was too much Frank in the first episode (understandably so) and WAY too much in the episode on Saturday, but I really never cared about Frank so I could be biased. I do agree with @RevJen that the rest of season 1 will likely focus on Claire and Jamie or it really just won't work.

I'm not okay with that. There's no way they can do it justice in 13 episodes. It's longer than Outlander.

Are non-book fans that thick that they needed half an episode of brooding Frank to figure that one out? I really don't think so. Even looking purely at the show it was just unnecessary.
