Rant: Meth heads

To the meth heads that live in or near my city:

I hope you all die! Stop buying all the Sudafed (both name brand and the generic forms) in the entire city! Some of us actually need it for medical purposes, you stupid pieces of shit!

Sincerely,
The lady that needs it to get pregnant!

FULL DISCLOSURE: My DH has retrograde ejaculation. His semen goes inward into his bladder instead of out of his body like it should. The easiest way to fix this is for him to take a Sudafed. Unfortunately, our city has a huge population of meth users and producers and they keep buying all the damn Sudafed. We went to four different pharmacies a few days ago to find some only to find out that no location had any available. Then DH spent his lunch today traveling all over the area to find one freaking box of Sudafed. I seriously hate this city. I can't wait to move.

Re: Rant: Meth heads

  • Is there any way for your H to get a prescription for it? I know Target generics are only like $4-6, so it ends up being cheaper than buying OTC even though it's the same thing, and I would assume they would have it available in the pharmacy. I'm sorry it's been such a pain though. :/

  • He used to have a prescription for it but he had to call them for a new one each time he needed it because they wouldn't prescribe it with refills. He called his Dr. today to see if he could get another one but they prescribed him extra strength Excedrin instead...which makes zero sense to me.

I'm just going to start making multiple trips to the pharmacy every week and buy more whenever I can so that I can stockpile it. I think there has to be a certain number of days between purchases but I'll figure that out as I go.

  • I wonder if a pharmacy would hold some for you when they get shipments in?

Does your state not get your ID when you buy sudafed? We have to give them our ID and the state will flag you so you can't buy more than a certain amount in a particular number of days. That would fix the meth heads, but you couldn't stock pile.

Either way, I'm sorry you have to deal with this. How does sudafed help him?

  • That is really frustrating. I'm sorry that this is an issue.

That's a good question. I am sure they hold some in the back for any prescriptions but I don't know if they would hold it back for someone without prescription.

My state does ID. They flag you so you can't buy it again for a certain time period. I think it is something like once a week. Since we only need it for a few days every other month or so, If I can manage to get 2 boxes a month, I should be able to get a little stockpile so that we would have it if we need it.

The problem here is that there is a such a large meth producing and using community that it isn't helping. They've found ways around it. Producers are buying it when they can and users are buying it to bring to their producers.

From what I understand, the Sudafed keeps the bladder neck closed during ejaculation so that the semen has to go out instead of back into his bladder.

I understand that you're frustrated, but I think it would benefit you to learn a little about the disease of addiction. "Meth heads" are sick, not pieces of shit. And to hope anyone dies is really unhealthy. A little perspective is a good thing.
I understand addiction. I have family members who have dealt with substance addiction. And while I do agree that saying I hope they die when I was upset was going a bit overboard, I will not retract my statement that they are pieces of shit. Being sick doesn't give you a free pass to be free of judgement from your actions

And frankly, a group of people who buy out an entire category of medicinal drug so that they can cook into an illegal drug to make money off of and get fucked up on, therefore making it inaccessible for people who actually need that medicine...are pieces of shit.

They chose to start doing drugs. They knew the risks when they started. My DH didn't choose to get diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was just 10 years old. He didn't choose to almost die four years ago when a doctor gave him the wrong drug during surgery, causing him to go into diabetic keto acidosis...leaving him with extensive nerve damage and retrograde ejaculation.

You're right...a little perspective is a good thing.

Wow, I'm sorry for what has happened to your H and that you can't find the medication you need, but I highly doubt that anyone would choose to become addicted to drugs, to live in the absolute squalor and ill-health that most addicts live in, and with the judgement that people pass on them.
Of course no one chooses to become addicted to drugs but they did choose to take it that first time.

  • So you've never had a drink? Or taken a pain pill that's been prescribed?

If you have, then wouldn't you have to agree that you're lucky that you've never become addicted?
    imageimageimageAnniversary
  • Yes, I have and you are right...I am lucky that I never became addicted. But the point still stands that when I did have a drink or take a pain pill, I was making a choice. I was choosing to risk getting addicted to those drugs.

The meth users in my community chose to do meth that very first time. They chose to make that decision for their lives. But because of the prevalence of users and producers in my area, their choices are affecting the lives of others and that's not fair. So I'm sorry, but I can't sit here and say in complete honesty that I have sympathy for them.

I understand that I am in the minority in that opinion and that is fine. We will just have to agree to disagree on this topic.

There's a very thin line between meth and rx amphetamines like Adderall and Ritalin, which more and more children and adults are being prescribed. And one is a hell of a lot easier to get. Kinda like rx opiates and heroin. They do the same thing chemically to the brain.

Most things we do and choices we make affect others. Just because their "choice" affects you this time doesn't mean that it's now extra unfair.

If you want to learn more, don't hesitate to ask me. This is one area that I'm passionate and knowledgeable about and you're certainly not the only person with prejudices. The goal is empathy, not sympathy.

  • I'm pretty sure you can't buy the original sudafed (pseudoephedrine) from amazon. It's probably all sudafed PE, which isn't the same thing. I think you can only buy it at a brick and mortar store. Otherwise all the laws pertaining to pseudoephedrine purchasing that are intended to thwart meth producers would be awfully easy to circumvent.
    image
  • You can't get it on amazon usa but can on amazon Canada. It's not regulated here.

  • Anyone who thinks you can get pseudoephedrine on Amazon is hilarious.

I don't know anything about retrograde ejaculation, but I know that pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine are NOT comparable when it comes to having a head cold. Probably not comparable when it comes to helping with retrograde ejaculation, either.
  • Thank you again, everyone!

Unfortunately, as pp's have already stated, you can't get Sudafed (with pseudoephedrine) on Amazon. You can only get Sudafed PE (with phenylephrine). From what I have read through my research, phenylephrine pills don't have the same affect as pseudoephedrine pills when it comes to retrograde ejaculation. I found one website that mentioned phenylephrine nasal spray possibly having an affect but I've only found one mention of that ever. We know for sure that pseudoephedrine works for him.

  • Oh geez...I thought we were past that? If you read through the whole thread, you would have read where I admitted that my statement about them dying was typed at a time when I was very upset and I admitted that I went overboard with that particular statement. I don't think there is anyone who hasn't said, or at least thought, something hateful at some point in their lives.

And actually, I don't need to check myself. I'm good.

But I will say this...if any of you are still so riled up that I spoke hatefully towards the poor, unfortunate meth heads(please read that with all the sarcasm intended), you can continue to post on here about it all you want but I won't be responding to it anymore.
