Re: 2015 Goals/Resolutions/Plans

  • There is this number I would love to get to in our emergency fund - I would love to get to it but I would also love to put more in retirement so I need to prioritize our extra funds.

DH will open his photography studio this summer or early fall which will mean he won't keep spending money in rent and it will go back in his pocket which also means more money for our family.

I want to book the same amount or more gigs than I did last year because that means more money in savings :)

Can't believe I am actually saying this but we are hoping to TTC towards the end of next year.  God I hated being pregnant with DD - I felt like hell the entire time, so I'm trying to remain positive that every pregnancy is different.

I don't do new years resolutions, never have.  I don't see the point, but I do like having goals.

    Financial Goals:

-Keep paying down our mortgage principle. We have another $5-$7K to get us in good standing to sell our condo. Hoping to list March-April 1st.

-Keep saving up for our house down payment and condo closing costs using money from my second job. In January I need to cut back from 4-5 days a week to 3 because it's too much working 60 hours/week, I am definitely feeling it!

    - In January we plan to start packing up personal items/extra junk around the house that we don't use anymore so that way when it comes time to list we are ready to go. We'll also sell anything that we may not need to keep anymore.  We will fix up things around the house that need touching up (like paint, polish cabinets etc) to make everything look sparkling.

Resolutions: I normally don't keep or follow then, but I always hope to stay active and go to the gym at least 3 times per week.

Fun Plans: We have our cruise in early May for our anniversary and that will probably be our only vacation for the year with our home buying plans.

    Financial Goals:

We've both upped our retirement contributions through open enrollment, so no going back there.

First we're putting money aside to finish the basement, hoping to start that project in April or May (though our contractor says he gives deep discounts during his winter lull in projects, so we might try to take advantage of that)...I'm expecting to get a decent tax return this year because of how my rant for school is paid and H's OT (pushes several pay checks into a higher tax bracket than we fall into at the end of the year)

after that our focus will shift back to savings and SL paydown (right now we've got 70% of our monthly surplus going to the basement, once we've funded that project we'll probably shift 30% to savings and 30% to SLs, leaving 10% for house projects)

We're hoping to start TTC #1 in May/June

We do not have any vacations planned, we have 1 wedding in January, 1 wedding in March, 2 weddings in June, 1 wedding in August, 2 weddings in September, and 1 we haven't got a date for yet.

I'm not big into resolutions...at least coinciding with the new year...we make change as it's needed.

What are your financial goals for 2015? To hopefully get on the same page as H because we are apparently on two different wavelengths with financial goals. And move into our own apartment.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

    Not really any resolutions.

    Any fun plans?

Hopefully get some kind of vacation for just H and I even if its only a couple of days.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

Keep doing what we're doing - we had a crazy year this past year (2 new jobs, new car, new house, trip to London a week after we closed on the house....), and we're hoping 2015 year is as good (but less exciting).

Do you have any New Year resolutions? The past 3 years I've made the same resolution - do better recording my billable time.  I'm really bad about writing it down every day, and I know I lose a good bit of time by not writing it down immediately.

Any fun plans? Yes!  We're going to southern France the last week in July - hopefully we'll get lucky with the timing of the lavender harvest this year.  We are also hoping to move a wall in the back part of the house and then rip out the carpet and install hardwood in that area.  That will give us hardwoods throughout and a better-sized family room.  Finally, depending on how much France and the home improvements cost us, there's a slight chance we might book a last-minute trip somewhere warm over Thanksgiving.  We'll need to see where we are at when the dust settles from all that, but I'm guessing we'll be close.  It also depends on my bonus for this year.  I found out I'm eligible (sweet!) but they haven't told us how much it's going to be.  The planner in me hates the thought of a last-minute trip, but the money hoarder in me recognizes that we want to be sure we have enough for these other things first.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

To have a better/bigger emergency fund.   Non financial, to finally have a baby, or at least be pregnant with a healthy baby.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

I never make any, but this coming year I hope to be more organized.  And learn how to say no at work with any extra projects.

    Any fun plans?

Thinking about visiting my cousin in Belgium.  We went couple years ago and had a blast.  Or maybe I can convince her to come here for a visit?

  • What are your financial goals for 2015? We have a few things on our list for 2015.

    Complete our E-Fund. So close!

    Save a 5k baby fund

Save for another 2 semester of college in cash

Have 6k saved for a new car

Do you have any New Year resolutions? Nope. Hopefully getting back into the gym after the semester ends though.

Any fun plans? TTC in September!

  • I totally missed the FUN part - we are going to St Lucia without kid in April.  I'm kinda nervous about not being with DD for 7 days.  I may miss her terribly!  It's actually my least favorite part.  We will be bringing an iPad mini so we can Skype with her everyday.

  • Financial Goals for 2015:

I'm going to try to keep it simple here. We're also prioritizing some non-financial baby bucket list goals which will cost some money.
-Pay off both cars (around 8,000 to go)
-Once that is done, start paying the ten-year rate on my SL
    -Add $400/month to our e-fund
-Raise my retirement contribution back to 10% (15% with match)
-Save enough for an October trip to Peru

    Resolutions:

    These are mostly hobby-related:
    -Run a sub-30 5k
    -Run a sub-2:20 half
    -Finish dive instructor certification

    Fun Plans:

My dive instructor class, visiting family in FL in Jan, concerts this summer (Foo Fighters, U2, and Wilco), and hopefully Peru in the fall!
  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

We've got just under 50k in SLs and our budget has us right at 10k left by the end of 2015! We also should be up to over 3 months in the e-fund.

I'm going to be asking for a raise at my 2-year mark in July.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

I think we're going to try and do another running race, maybe work up to a 10k by the end of the year.

    Any fun plans?

Hoping to get tickets to the symphony for H's birthday, maybe get to go to some hockey or baseball games. Getting married in October made 2014 really busy, so my fun plan is to try lots of new recipes and decorate the new apartment.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

To have a better/bigger emergency fund.   Non financial, to finally have a baby, or at least be pregnant with a healthy baby.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

I vote you go to Belgium instead of having her come here :)

H is Belgian (dual citizen) and loves it over there.  I've never been, but it's on my list!  It looks really beautiful.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

    1. Try to cash flow new roof and paint job as much as we can.
    2. Continue working on MWs student loans while paying off other smaller debts early.
    3. Increase our savings during the first 6 months in preparation for how expensive the last 6 months of the year tends to be.

Do you have any New Year resolutions? Get into the gym more often.  Get my son into some type of YMCA sports program.

Any fun plans?  Biggest is the third week of July her family get together on lake Erie for a week.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015? Get my student loan paid off (hopefully, this should be done by May!), gut and remodel our bathroom and bulk up our liquid savings.

Do you have any New Year resolutions? No, but I like New Year as a time to clean my office, computer and email inbox of old junk in preparation for a fresh new year. Sort of a purge of the reminders of any failings from the year before.

Any fun plans? We are visiting London, Paris and taking a cruise around Norway in late spring, after which we will start TTC.

  • Financial Goals for 2015-

Add more to our Efund, Have all credit cards paid off(will be done in January), My SL will be paid off by the end of next year thanks to my work!

I dont really do New Years Resolutions, I just do goals--Besides Financial, Practice Yoga 2x a month, Maintain my current goal weight, maintain my current activity workout schedule(which shouldn't be an issue)

    Any fun plans?

No plans as of now, but plan on taking some sort of vacay in the next couple of months to somewhere warm--IL winters can be depressing. Have a ton of weddings this year as well, but thankfully wont be traveling for them.

Brij2006--I hope that hilly race you are refering to is the Bix!?

  • 1. What are your financial goals for 2015?
Pay down debt! This is the biggest one, mostly because we'd like to TTC #2 in 2015, and I'm calculating that we need an extra $1200/mo in our budget for infant daycare, diapers, formula, and other baby odds and ends. Pretty sure we can get that by finishing our credit card payments ($350/mo, should be done in April) and retiring some of DH's student loans ($1400/mo, all in). We'll both probably get tiny raises next year but I don't expect that to amount to more than an extra $100/mo in take home pay.

Once the debt is managed, save up enough to install a fireplace.

    2. Do you have any New Year resolutions?
Um, shower at least every 36hrs instead of every 48? Terrible, I know. But in my defense, I'm busting my butt 6am-9pm every day with job, kid, commute, and keeping the house somewhat presentable. I'm too exhausted to shower every night or get up even earlier.

    Any fun plans?
My brother's low-key wedding in February. Some kind of vacation in the summer? Tbd there. Depends on West Coast weddings. We have a couple friends on the other side of the country who haven't set their wedding dates yet, but if we're invited, we know we want to go.

Install previously mentioned fireplace and next winter, have all the cozy fires!
  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

I'm really hoping for a decent raise at the beginning of the year, so with that in mind I have quite a few financial goals I'd like to accomplish:

-Top priority is building a front porch this summer!  We are going to finance part of the project and try to save for part of it

-Get a new dresser; we've had a $40 Kmart dresser that is kid-sized for about 10 years, so it'd be nice to have a grown up one :)

-Increase my HSA and Roth IRA contributions

-Pay off our new mattress (0% until next fall but we'll have it paid off early)

Do you have any New Year resolutions?  I don't really do resolutions, but I'd love to lose 10 lbs. :-P

    Any fun plans?

-Driving to San Diego (20 hour drive!) to catch a baseball game the end of May, and also to visit H's family in Corona.

  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

Cash flow the rest of baby supplies, Pay off my car (5k) when babies born, next is a 4k SL and 9k on H's car and then hopefully starting 2016 with only student loans left! It will be a hard with daycare but i love a good challenge!

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

To have a healthy baby and succeed at this whole "new mom" thing. lol

    Any fun plans?

Um i'm having a baby - thats about as fun as i'm getting.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • What are your financial goals for 2015?

Get our roof fixed, save for a baby fund, and save for our belated honeymoon.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

Run at least 500 miles total for the year
Finish at least 15 books total for the year

    @xstatic3333 - I'd love to also run a sub 30 min 5k, but I don't see it happening.

    Any fun plans?

Iceland in October and beginning TTC around same time ;)

  • Financial Goals

    • To have the two debts from Hubby paid off
    • Continue to live within our means which hasn't been an easy thing to learn to do
    • Have our CC debt significantly paid down (as that is the highest interest rate)
    • Work overtime when available (but not so much that I get burnt out) and apply that to CC debt to help it reduce even faster

    New Years Resolution

    • Start going to gym regularly (gym by us just opened this week) so that we can lose weight & get healthier. I refuse to have us need to buy another new wardrobe because we gained more weight. Luckily all our clothes that got too small, I saved so as we need new clothes from losing weight, we can just go to the basement for clothes

    Fun Plans

Unfortunately, not really. We've deteremined that we can't afford a vacation away this year so we'll still take some time off from work, but it will be day trips around our town & with using coupons to reduce the costs.

  • @bnunn03 It is the Bix.  I am so intimidated by it though, but I figure it will be a good distance to work up to.
Are you going to run it this year?

  • I just lurk here a lot, but we've been planning our financial goals for 2015 together this week.

    Financial Goals:
    1. We've been paying $100 extra every month towards our mortgage principle, but we'd like to up it to $200 per month extra.
    2. My husband gets quarterly bonuses.  He started that in the middle of last year, so we know what the expect now, but this will be his first full year.  We'd like to put all of the bonus money including, his yearly bonus in the our emergency fund.  It should be about $10,000.
    3. Pay off my car.  I have just over $1,000 left.  Then I want to continue putting the same amount in savings every month to save for a downpayment again.

    Resolutions:
I'm in business for myself, and I go a little crazy and never take time off.  I took 5 days off all of 2014.  My goal is to take 3 weeks off in 2015.  I also want to make exercise more of a priority then it has been.

    Fun plans:
We're traveling around the Yucatan Peninsula for 2 weeks in April.  I'M SO EXCITED!  We've been planning this trip- well saving- for a a long time and we've planned a fun adventure.
  • @brij2006- Yep I will be running it as well! It is my favorite race by far. They have Bix at 6 on Thursdays if you are ever able to make it in town so you can practice the course. The hills arent bad, so many people that you dont realize you are running up and down hills!
  • What are your financial goals for 2015? Pay off my car by April 2015! That will be a relief. From there I'd like to increase savings and hopefully have $6000 more saved in our joint account, and $2000 in my personal savings account. Once my car snowball is complete I'd like to double my school payment to $300 per month.

Other financial goals: is to move my IRA to my higher earning TSP account, and save up enough to go on a cruise next winter (in addition to our other savings goals).

Do you have any New Year resolutions? Nothing major. Better time management skills, eat more homecooked meals, and work out 4 days per week. Then again those are always goals, so not necessiarly resolutions.

Any fun plans? I'm supposed to go to Vegas for my cousin's bachelorette party which should be fun.. Not really looking forward to spending that kind of money on that, but hopefully it will be worth it.  H and I are also planning to go on cruise for our 10 years dating/1 year anniversary next winter which I'm looking forward to!

  • What are your financial goals for 2015? Pay off sewer repair ($8,200), fully fund Roth IRA accounts ($11,000), add to girls' 529 plans ($10,000 total), up 401K contributions by 1%, add more to DH's 403B once the double day care payment goes down to 1 (in September). Start looking at a new car for DH- we're going brand new for the first time.

Do you have any New Year resolutions? Don't really make these- just keep the family happy and healthy. I would love to lose about 10-15 lbs though- just need to wake up at 5:30AM and get moving (it's so hard!).

Any fun plans? Will probably go a small vacation with the girls in the summer and more house repairs (new porch floor, new garage door, new front door). Start planning the upstairs bathroom gut job- I like that kind of stuff, so it's fun to me!

I'm hoping that DH's bonus and our tax refund is enough for us to afford to get our master bathroom remodeled this spring.  If they are in the neighborhood of what they were last year we will be in great shape.

Otherwise it will mostly be status quo.  If I get pregnant our vacation fund will turn into a baby fund to cover birth expenses and nursery setup.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

I really should, but I never keep them.  lol

    Any fun plans?

In January we are taking a one week cruise to celebrate our first anniversary a bit early (only two weeks).  We have highly tentative plans to go to the beach with my parents and sister (and her family) in September.

DH and I are discussion 2016 vacation plans if I'm not pregnant or if we don't have an infant at home.  We are considering a Mediterranean cruise or a combo trip to Croatia (DH's great grandfather was born their) and Greece.

One of the partners I work with has traveled the world extensively (the man speaks 8 languages fluently and worked for FIFA for years before going into private practice).  He says that Croatia is - to him - the most beautiful country in the world.  He and his wife took their daughters there last summer and loved it.  He has plans to retire there.

I read an article in the last year or so that Croati is one of the Top 10 undiscovered hot spots for travel.  Inexpensive once you get there, beautiful resorts, national parks, the whole works.  I mentioned to my in-laws that we should do a family trip there one day and after they got over the shock that their daughter in law would be willing to travel with them (this is DH's second marriage and his first wife was a piece of work) they were intrigued by the idea.
Yep!  This guy I mentioned says it reminds him a lot of the Amalfi Coast, except without the tourists and expense.  He says that English is minimally spoken, though it's been on the rise in recent years.  You also get the ruins there - people forget that the Roman empire entirely covered Croatia, and there are lot of ampitheaters, etc. that you can visit.

    Late to the game!

What are your financial goals for 2015?

Well, 2014 was a revelation and a nightmare, so for 2015 we want to get better at handling our money. I like the way we budget now and have been doing fairly well. I want to continue doing better. So for 2015 we want to continue working our budget, pay off the debts that we incurred the last few months and cut up all but 2 of our cards, create a will, and start saving up the remainder of our money for our efund, vacation, and retirement.

Do you have any New Year resolutions?

I always make resolutions and never stick to them. My goals are to live better, eat better, exercise a little more, be more patient, and enjoy life. I've been to stressed out and angry lately and I want to get away from that.

    Any fun plans?

A trip to Georgia in June for a friend's wedding. Maybe a trip to a different state? We haven't planned much yet since Disney took a larger toll than we expected.
