Re: Worst Book of 2014

  • Oh there were some bad ones this year.  Free kindle books can be very hit or miss!
My least favorite though was The Island by Jen Minkman.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
    "I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  • Hush, Hush.

I hate that @84lauren actually suggested I read it so that she would know for sure that it was really as bad as she thought it was.

    It was.

  • I had 5 or 6 two star books this year, but I think Orange is the New Black was my least favorite.  Which is funny because I love the show.

  • The Goldfinch. I want the weeks I spent on that book back.

  • Orange is the New Black was horrible. I had to force myself to finish, it was so terrible.

Must Love Dogs. I only got this because it had been on my TBR list for years... I was about 4 chapters away from the ending and could not have cared less how it ended. There was not one interesting sentence in that entire book.

  • It pains me to say this but probably Rachel Dratch's Girl Walks Into a Bar.

I wanted so much more out of it.

Nicolle's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • Thr3e by Ted Dekker.  It was pathetic.

Poorly written, poorly edited. It was embarrassingly bad.

I got conned into reading this in 2013.  HORRIBLY BAD.

Well the good thing is, now I know to remove Hush, Hush from my TBR. So, thank you!!

Either Fever by Lauren DeStefano or The Reading Promise by Alice Ozma. Both were awful.

I had such high hopes about The Reading Promise. It's a memoir from a dad and daughter about how they read together each night for years. I thought it would inspire me about reading to my B, but I hated every second of it.

    Can I marry them all?

  • It's a toss up between the Ally Condie book Reached and Emily Giffin's The One and Only. Blech on both. I think I may be reading my worst for 2015 right now, though. It's a David Bowie bio and its ridiculously sensationalized, full of hyperbole, and just bad. I won it on GR though, so I feel obligated to finish it.

  • Blue Lines by Toni Aleo. It was a Netgalley read and the 4th in a new to me series. But the characters were hard to like.
  • The Maze Runner series.  I still don't understand what was going on in those books.

  • The Paper Magician. It was my first Kindle First book, and I think it may be my last.

  • Delta of Venus by Anais Nin.  I think it was my only 1 star book of the year.  Awful. awful erotica that veered between boring, tedious repetition to the most perverse sex acts imaginable (necrophilia, WTF?) with no warning.  Anyone that tells you that this is a 'must read' for women is wrong.

A close second was The Godfather.  Stick to the movie, the book is terrible and will make you hate all the characters and Mario Puzo to boot.

Lol!  Not creepy, but so so bad. I rarely give 1 star ratings because I feel bad doing it but this was a 1 star book (and the only one of the year).

This! I haven't given anything a 1-star rating in almost five years, but this time there were just soooo many things wrong!

  • The Good Girl by Mary Kubicka

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Wise Craft by Blair someone - a blogger.  An actual suggestion for a real craft is leather covered rocks.  Where you take a leather scrap and use it to cover a rock and then give it to someone as a gift.  This was not a joke book, a la Amy Sedaris.  She was serious.

  • Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard. I didn't even like the main characters, only the secondary characters. The writing felt rushed and the characters didn't go well together at all. The plot didn't make sense. The heroine was terrible and HATED the hero and everything about him. Then they got engaged. To quote from my review: "No one who has three broken engagements gets engaged one week after talking to a guy she previously hated, no matter how good the first sex session is."
