Re: MM Weddings
Thanks! I checked there and a few other places! I think the other girls are going with long so I'd like to stick to long for now.
I did find a great site (for anyone in upcoming weddings with a lax bride) http://www.azazie.com/. They offer to send you a sample for $10 that you can keep for 4 business days and then ship back for free. And the best part is you can order them custom to your size so no alterations! And it takes less than a month to come in for any procrastinators
Edited to fix a spelling error.

Lol that's so bad!
I usually do something small for e-parties (not common around here). If booze is off the table:
-Teapot with tea
-Fancy coffee with mugs
-Plant
-Small gift card
-Nice cheese w/slicer
If it's helpful to change the casino plan, apparently Mohegan and Foxwoods are kind of anti-bachelor/bachelorette parties and if you're obvious with sashes, crowns, etc. will ask you to leave. I have a rough time with the smoke at those places.
Super expensive bachelorettes are cruel, but if they're planned to be under $200 pp I usually really enjoy them. A reasonable night out in Boston works well. We went to a free Cape house for mine and went to a local bar, which was also really fun. I tried to buy drinks but nobody would let me.
Great deal on the flower girl dresses!
I'm dying right now! same couple that had this engagement party to stock their bar for their wedding, just got their "save the date". their wedding is in april in St. John, we're not invited, we are however invited to celebrate with them in June (I suppose with the liquor they were gifted at their engagement party). we're also encouraged to (actually the save the date tells us to consider) making a gift to their honeymoon registry!
Oh hellllll no. No. No. No. No. No.
There is no way in hades they'd get any more out of me. So sorry
I live about an hour away from the casinos and they are a good time although I've never been to any parties there...just Chippendales once haha. Of course it's an expensinve time as well, but I like to just have low-key events like you doWe were able to do the wedding and reception with 75 guests, a beach bonfire party, and pay for the hotel rooms for all aunts, uncles, grandparents on the $10,000 budget. We got married at a VERY beautiful state park, did not have alcohol at the reception, had an ipod as our "dj", had a tiny wedding party, and spent HOURS searching for the best deals on everything. There were a couple of DIY projects, but not very many. I might be biased, but I think our wedding was perfect and very classy. The venue made it spectacular, even though it only cost us $200 to reserve.
Given the circumstances, I would do it all over again. We had a blast, and it was great to see everyone we love in one place! However, I'm not sure I would have done it if my parents or we were in a different financial situation. The budget was very reasonable for my parents to handle, and we were not in any desperate need for the money either, so it was "comfortable" for us. If my parents/we would not have been able to afford it comfortably, then we probably just would have gone to the courthouse.
The only thing I regret is not going on a honeymoon! We technically had the money to go, but we were being extreme tightwads and decided to wait until later. We have plans to go on a fancy trip in October (over 2 and a half years after our wedding), but I feel like something is probably going to pop up and delay that trip even longer.
Despite the fact that my dad paid for all these rooms, my grandmother and uncle (who I just complained about in another post) did not come to the wedding, because they said they could not afford to buy something new to wear. /:) Most people at our wedding wore khakis and casual sundresses...
I was working 60+ hours a week and we were remodeling our home. I had no time to plan or DIY so I hired a wedding planner. Most of the weddings in my family are under $10,000.
I chose inexpensive bridesmaid dresses and had 8. They were simple, strapless black gowns for $80ish from David's Bridal. I paid for them and I paid for everyone's hair and makeup to be done. With floor length gowns I just told everyone to wear black, open toed shoes. I never would have expected them to pay for their hair and makeup to be done since it was something that I wanted.
I am in a wedding in 2 months and the bride is on a super budget. I am thankful she chose $49 dresses from DB for us to wear. They are fuchsia and not my style, so it will never be worn again. She just set the date 2 weeks ago so it doesn't leave much room for the bridal party to budget. Even with the dress being inexpensive it's going to cost a minimum of $500 to be in the wedding. That's okay but it's definitely stressful to budget it in such a short time frame.
I love hearing all your wedding stories!
I am very proud of my MM wedding. It was small and intimate, about 35 guests. My mom and stepdad offered their home, which has a beautiful deck and patio area (lots of flowers). Plus they live across the street from a large neighborhood park. It was a great setting for pics.
My mom generously paid for all of it, except my dress and travel costs, so I am not totally sure of the final number, but it was probably in the $5-$7K range.
I crazy lucked out on the dress. I bought it new off of Ebay, but from one of those Chinese companies. They had a ton of good feedback on Ebay. Shortly after I placed my order, I joined TK and then started reading all these horror stories about ordering dresses from China.
But my gamble paid off. It arrived and was my DREAM dress! Loved it! And it was only $225, including rush shipping, a matching shawl, and the petticoats. I couldn't have even bought the fabric for that price in the States. I had also sent them my measurements to have it custom made for me, but still assumed I would have to have it altered by a local tailor. Nope! Fit me perfectly right out of the package.
I've only been a BM once, but the bride's mother paid for everyone's dresses. They had gotten them on a clearance sale from JC Penney and the dresses were less than $50. Plus, the MOB was a professional seamstress, so she was able to whip out any alterations in no time. She also completely made my friend's bridal dress.
