MM Win - Home Renovations & Intro

Hi there! I posted a few times but feel like a formal introduction is necessary. My husband and I live in the Connecticut suburbs outside of NYC. We were married in August and have had quite the whirlwind "newlywed" phase - between having an offer accepted on a foreclosure in the beginning of October, to my husband's father passing away unexpectedly at the end of that month (who also happened to be our attorney for the home purchase), to our furnace blowing the first day of our current renovation period - things have been anything but easy. We are renovating our entire home, and trying to go with lots of style on a (relatively) small budget. Our contractor finished refinishing the cabinets and I wanted to share the result! We are very happy with the way they turned out, especially since the painting only cost $1,100 as opposed to the $10k+ new cabinets would cost!

As you can tell, there's still quite a bit of work to be done but we are excited with the progress thus far! Now we just need to install cabinet hardware, herringbone marble backsplash, new stainless steel appliances, new island and refinish the hardwood floors and we'll be really on our way! I just keep saying "I think we can, I think we can"...!  Please feel free to send any and all positive vibes our way! :)

  • I think painting cabinets, instead of replacing, is one of the all time best deals for a kitchen makeover.  Congrats!  They look gorgeous...post another pic when you have some stylish hardware on those bad boys.  I think upscale hardware is another great and cheap way to give a kitchen POP!

Sending out lots of good vibes your way :).

My own home was a foreclosure that had been vacant for 1 year before I bought it.  Plus I bought the house the same year it turned 100.  Needless to say, lots of renovating has occurred!  Now I'm finally at least to the stage where the sorely needed renovations are done and am now doing fun upgrades.

I promise it will all happen!  But it is overwhelming at the beginning.  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time ;).

  • Thanks for all of the positive vibes! I apologize the photos aren't uploading correctly, but I think if you right click and do "open in new tab" you can see the photos (at least I can). If anyone's got any tips for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

@short+sassy: It sounds like we have similar situations! We purchased our foreclosure which had been vacant for over a year as well, which resulted in our cracked boiler and reason to upgrade our heating system from oil baseboard to propane forced air. We also splurged a bit for upscale hardware and I agree, I think you can get a lot of visual bang for your buck! We stopped by last night and I took these photos with the hardware installed :)
