No challenges for me. I'm rereading Dead of Winter and already mourning that I have no more Arcana Chronicles to read after that.

I just finished Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt and it was so good, you guys. It felt very rustic--sort of told by the fire around the common room of an inn sort of a vibe-- and the ending reminded me of a Shakespearean play (which always gets high marks for me).

I also started listening to Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. I read a short story she wrote in Lightspeed Magazine a while back and was so entranced by it that I have been waiting for her to write a full length novel that I could read (technically she has another one out, but it's about Cleopatra being a vampire and vampires- meh). Anyway, Magonia was billed as Neil Gaiman's Stardust meets The Fault in Our Stars. Maybe it's just the narrator, but the beginning was tedious for me. The main character felt like an overly clever dying teenager, but I hung in there because I've seen this author do amazing things. I don't think it would have felt as over the top if I'd been reading it on the page instead of listening though. Now it's getting good that we're into some of the fantasy elements, though I could still do without some of Aza's snarky asides.

  • I'm reading Voyager (Outlander).  I've been reading it, for what I feel is, forever.  It just seems like the more I want to read, the less I am actually getting to read.

  • I am in a bit of a reading funk.  I am trying to read Black Hills by Dan Simmons, but I am barely through 50 pages.  I am also trying to read Barefoot by Erin Hildebrand and barely into that one as well.

    Sigh.
    90 books in 2015?

I'm reading The Irin Chronicles by Elizabeth Hunter right now. Starting out pretty strong. I loved her Elemental series so I have high hopes.

I finished The Map Thief this week. It was disappointing. I thought it would be more like Caveat Emptor, but with maps! It was not. It was a lot of antique map history, which was interesting (to me), but the story didn't carry it. The thief and his story simply were not that interesting, so I don't really understand why someone wrote a book about him.

I started What If? by the creator of xkcd. It's much better.

I'm also about 5 pages from finishing Pump Six by Paolo Bacigalupi, a collection of science fiction short stories that I started for WBC. It's very good, but I always struggle with short story collections.

  • I am re-reading Dragonfly in Amber, I'm about 30% in. I forgot how slow this one was for me.

I am also reading "While Beauty Slept", which is based on/a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but it is from the POV of the Queen's Lady in Waiting. Very good so far!
