  My brother and SIL used it to find their nanny. They interviewed a few people and chose her. They were happy with the people they found.

  If you belong to a church, ask the youth minister. I know our youth ministry kids make awesome sitters for us.

  We have used former daycare teachers as sitters and we've recently started using teenagers who live in our neighborhood.
  
  I have also asked neighbors with kids for recommendations.

  When we first moved here I found a great babysitter through care.com  She even brought art supplies with her so they'd do a project while we were out.
