Nest Book Club
Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

I feel like we need an Apocalypse plan.

The Nest forums have been all but abandoned by the powers that be- the admin who is over the nest boards hasn't been active in over a year. We're just holing up in an abandoned building. We're squatters.

WHAT IF THE NEST BOOK CLUB DISAPPEARS. We need a way to find each other. Maybe smoke signals? Maybe a secret club whistle?

  • Is there activity on other boards? Does life exist elsewhere in the nestiverse?

  • All three of you guys are on my FB. . .

  • I worry about facebook though.  We wouldn't get any "new blood" and there might be some people who don't want to share their real info.

For a contingency plan, we could use PBs book club until we find a new permanent home?

I hate to point out the (somewhat) obvious. But people GBCN'd a long time ago and already set up a new GBCN-BC.  It's here at Proboards - http://pandce.proboards.com/board/32/book-club

  • Valid points.  I've never used PB.
  • I agree that PB would be a good option.  I don't have a facebook account and I would miss you guys so much! We should stalk the PB book club and see if they are douchetastic, or cool like us, and report back on our findings.

  • I remember at the Great Migration, our boards weren't too fond of each other.  I think it's pretty dead over there, so I doubt it would be too much of an issue, especially if we wanted to make it temporary.

  • LOL at the "Great Migration."
  • @SusieBW - It really was! The entire Married Life board and Current Events board left. Everyone. It was nutso. I enjoyed PB for a while, but the Book Club board is dead and the ML has so much drama and bitchiness.

  • I post on the gbcn boards some and feel much more at home there but the nest has made me uneasy for years now with how they just get rid of boards. They got rid of the BMB angelashly and I were on with zero warning. I'd personally love to move elsewhere but like this community and want to stay apart of it.

  • I think that the emergency evac muster point should be PB, and we can just excuse ourselves and let them know that it's only temporary. If we ended up sticking around, maybe they could make us a sub-board.

  • Yeah, I remember "The Great Migration". I used to lurk on ML for the drama and post occasionally. I checked out PB just now. Their BC does seem pretty dead, so it would be a good temporary home/ muster point. lol

  • Huh, I don't even remember that.  I am a member though.

Also, I used to love ANTM. I need to immerse myself again.

    I love this gif. Hilarious!
It seems like many of these people are pretty active too, showing 'currently reading' updates in August or so. Hmm...

There are like, 15 seasons of it on Hulu!  It was always one of my favorite shows.
  • And I just joined the GR group.  Make it 714 members.  BOOM.

Was this a few months ago?  I was on maternity leave and my BMB group on FB was completely flipping out about the whole Bump drama.  I'm glad you guys were still here when I got back from mat leave!

No. Not at all. Um... I remember one of the big topics at first being the 2012 summer olympics, so I'm remembering the Migration as being sometime just before that. It was also about the time that they changed the format of the Nest boards for more recent posts to bump to the top. It was a hot mess at first and very glitchy. Everyone at PB was glad they'd left before that.

    History for any newcomers:

Back in 2012 when The Nest was in full swing, they kept trying to change the board formats, and every time they fiddled with stuff, it would break. After one tech failure lasted for days, Married Life found refuge on the empty Pampers board on The Bump. Soon after, a Knot/Nest/Bump admin came in and yelled at them for ruining things for "the regular Pampers posters" (of which there were none). Cue the riot. Since Politics & Current Events had already set up a board on ProBoards, that was expanded, and the entire Nest population moved over there since nothing worked here. Then they decided to stay. And everyone still lives there.

NBC only survived because the sub-boards were still working, and NBC could relocate temporarily onto the HP sub-board. When we came out of our bunker, the Nest world was empty.

I was so sad that the book club board didn't work out for all of us over there. Proboards is so much easier to navigate than here. Honestly, I would post a lot more if we found a most user friendly site like that.

  • I could totally be wrong, but I feel like I remember a few NBCers going to the PBs and bitching about how awful we are and how glad they were to escape us.  That was the end of my interest.

Whoever it was must have lost interest because it's crickets over there on Book Club.
