  • Pumpkin spice is back.
  • Burn for Me is not as amazing as I was expecting it to be.  I'm 84% through.
Maybe there was too much hype; maybe my expectations were too lofty.

    That's always a fear.  I'm so sad you're not loving it :(

Don't get me wrong, I like it.  And I will very likely read more in the series.  It's good.  But there's something about the writing style that keeps bothering me.
  • I've realized that every time I see Veronica Roth's pic on GR, I give her the stink eye because I am still pissed about Allegiant. I need to let it go.

  • I'm having such a problem finding sitters for Wes lately.  I can't complain because they are family and they do it for free, but 4 people have been MIA lately.  I need to find back up care for Wes tomorrow and I don't think I have any. I'm too new at my job to take the day (let alone being in the close) and Jeremy took off today.  I know we will figure it out, but it's stressing me out a bit.  I'm hoping Wes's fever breaks today, but I can't count on it.

I'm off work tomorrow, wanna bring him to RI?

I realized the other day how annoyed I was at her for not having anything new yet. How does Sarah Maas have both ToG and CoTaR going at once, and Veronica Roth has nothing new from October 22, 2013 through (according to USA Today) sometime in 2017? I understand this may be unrealistic, but I've come to expect more from YA writers.

  • I have volleyball at lunch today.  It's playoffs for my summer lunchtime league.  My team finished first for the season, so we had a "bye" for the first round of playoffs and between that and a week of make-up games, we haven't played in about 3 weeks.  I'm kind of over it and ready for volleyball to just be over and done.  I've been enjoying my lazy, relaxing lunchtimes for the past few weeks.

Maybe because of all the movie stuff, she hasn't been able to write more? Although, I am still on the fence about shunning her because of Allegiant.

I'd have to guess she's a little afraid after the crucification from former Divergent fans after they read Allegiant.

My Thursday random is that I am finding any excuse I can to not work on the stupid document I'm supposed to be working on.

My boss and I have both been thinking seriously about quitting this week. :P
    image
  • I'm super stoked that my boss is on vacation sort of starting today (he's out of office) and won't be back until around the 16th due to cataract surgery a week from Monday. Our entire staff gets SO MUCH MORE DONE when he's not here inventing things to cause problems.

I'd be glad to do it, my only fear would be that my kids would get sick and I'm really looking forward to going away without them this weekend!

Not to mention actually getting to RI.  The two hour commute would hurt.  Enjoy your weekend away!

I think I'm one of the only people in NE that hates anything pumpkin lol.  Everyone gets so excited for this and I hate it :)

  • I feel like pumpkin is kind of a polarizing thing.  People either LOVE it or get rage-y about it.  I'm a lover.  DH thinks it's completely disgusting.  So I rarely make any of the delicious pumpkin recipes that I save from FB, but I eat all the pumpkin things when I can.

Although - DH brought me pumpkin fro-yo last week, and I did not like.
  • And speaking of pumpkin things and New England in the fall - Any of you NE ladies want to plan a GTG for apples and pumpkins (or for anything anywhere, really) sometime in October?

I was going to say I'm sick of pumpkin and it just started. I'm also in NE and I dno't mind pumpkin at the right time. I saw pumpkin beer 2 weeks ago...IN AUGUST. Maybe it's just this last horrible winter but relax folks, give me pumpkin in the FALL. I'd love to join a GTG, I haven't done one yet. I know we talked about the Louisa May Alcott house, could we geek out if that's open in the fall and then apple or pumpkin pick?

I think Veronica Roth should try to keep up with a book while the iron's hot. I'm suprised the Hunger Games writer (forgive me for forgetting her name) probably should have done the same...although didn't she write something under a different name? I know it's not easy to write a book just like that but don't lose your momentum.
  • Another Thursday random to follow up to the TV show thread, I haven't watched Orange is the New Black and I want to give it a try, but I"m hesitant since it's so hyped. I'm afraid it won't be that good, although I think I just don't care about the content.

Agreed, they do start with the pumpkin stuff too soon.  DH and I are going down the cape this weekend, and I want to have summer drinks while we're there, not fall beers!  There should be no fall things until after labor day.  And no Christmas things until after Thanksgiving.

I'm down with the Louisa May Alcott house.
  • I don't have a problem with pumpkins or with autumn. I'm moreso annoyed by how INTENSE the world seems to get about pumpkin, fall, the month of October, etc. I like fall fashion and will rock a knee high boot and scarf with the best of them, but it is not the be all end all of life that people seem to make it.

Maybe it's because I live in a place that literally has no seasons other than hot and then not so hot but I just don't understand the hype.

I think I might lose my mind living in a place like that.  I don't really need winter to be quite as long and harsh as it can sometimes be here, but usually by about the time the season is changing, I'm ready to move on to something new anyway.  I do love fall weather in new england, though.
  • They need to shift pumpkin season 2 months.  I want it in October and November, not in August and September.  I asked for a pumpkin coffee on year around Halloween and they told me that stopped ordering it a couple of weeks earlier.  I think the beer/coffee seasons are so out of whack.

I don't have a problem with pumpkin beer (though they are not all created equal), but I'm ready for the other fall ones.  Yum.

  • Quick vent:  Am I the only one whose DH avoids doing things because traffic?  We're going down the cape this weekend.  It's Labor Day weekend.  On Cape Cod.  There will be traffic and crowded places.  This is unavoidable and we knew it when we booked.

I've never been out to Provincetown, and it's about an hour from where we're staying so I said I'd like to go for brunch on Sunday morning, or maybe just to wander around and have lunch on Saturday.  He just texted me that he doesn't think we should go all the way out to Ptown because traffic on a holiday weekend is going to be bad.  Really?  So it takes a little longer to get there - who cares!?

I'm also kind of bummed because I was hoping to go to National Seashore beaches, but his lingering ankle injury makes it hard enough for him to walk on the sand, but especially down the steep dunes out there.

New Englanders (and anyone else who's been) - favorite spots on Cape Cod?  Beaches, bars, restaurants, stuff to do?  We're staying in Dennisport, but I'm willing to do/go whatever/wherever.

Do it! I was hesitant too, but I love that show now.
