FYI for anybody who hasn't signed up for Prime, but has been thinking about it: Amazon is dropping the price to $67 on Friday to celebrate its Emmy win:

Hoffse is right. You won't go back.

We tried it during their 30 day free trial period. Needless to say I just ordered a $7.99 wedding band for my H to replace his that he lost while out on the boat a few weeks ago. Everywhere else it was easily $50 minimum, and then shipping on top.

They also just got a contract with HBO, so lots of those shows are on Prime now.

I love having 2-day shipping or overnight for $3.99 when I literally need something tomorrow. When I don't need something right away, I choose slow shipping and get credit for movie rentals.

Also a huge fan of their lending library for the Kindle. They also have a library of music, and you can get free photo storage with your membership.

And then there is early access to sales, special prime-only deals...

OK, I'll stop. It's pretty awesome though.

Yeah, I'm the lame-o who goes shopping for a $1.49 item that will put me over the $35 minimum to get the free shipping, lol. (Hiding face in shame), I once bought a $4 bag of cashews JUST to get to the free shipping threshold. Very un-MM.

The way I figure it, Netflix and HuluPlus both cost $7.99/month or $95.88/year. For less than $4/year more you can have Prime, which also has all the free shipping perks and deals.

When you think about it that way, it pays for itself quickly. I'll be totally honest - we subscribe to all 3. We use Prime and Netflix about equally and HuluPlus once in awhile. I'm considering dropping HuluPlus.

We did the free month of Hulu then ditched it. I hate paying for something AND watching commercials.

We have the best of both worlds. We pay for netflix and share it with my parents. They pay for amazon and share it with us and my sibs.

I don't like shopping on Amazon (I can always find better deals with more bonuses elsewhere) but if you still have cable this is a great time to cut the cord!! I much prefer Amazon Prime over Netflix any day!

amazon is great - ditto what the others said about not going back. I find cheaper priced yoga clothes and other items on amazon.

We live 20 minutes from the nearest Walmart, and that's our only option for true shopping. So if I'm looking for something specific, I have to drive an hour (60 miles) each direction to find it. Majority of the time I don't have any luck finding what I'm looking for, and then half the day is wasted.

We didn't realize how much we would use prime until we got it. H even orders his motor oil off there for oil changes in our vehicles. The price is cheapest as well.

However, we probably use it a lot more now that we have DD. I don't like spending my evenings and weekends stopping at 5 places to find that 1 item I need, and waste half my day. I would rather be at home spending my very limited time with my daughter.

This has been our experience as well. We live in a city, but we have to fight traffic to get to any store other than a Target or the grocery store. I'm at work at 7:30 most mornings, and there are always a few days a week when I stay until 7:30 in the evening. After a 12-hour day, I just want it delivered. As long as the cost isn't very different, I don't even mind spending a little bit more for the convenience. It's not the most MM-thing ever, but I value my time a lot.

I have to imagine it's going to be a godsend with kids.

Same here. I work in a more populated area but live in the country a bit. I also have a 35-45 minute commute depending on traffic so the last thing I want to do is make a stop on the way home to attempt to find a random item. On Amazon you type in what you want, and boom, multiple options, and you can read reviews. Most recently we bought some bird spikes because birds like to hang out under our porch and poop everywhere, and being able to read reviews helped us decide which ones would work for our application. Was great for wedding planning too... got all my escort card supplies for under $20.

Has anybody tried Prime Pantry yet?

I haven't, but I'm thinking I might give it a go for holiday baking/Thanksgiving. There is a shipping charge, but the prices seem really good.

We cancelled our Prime awhile ago to save the money but if I can remember this sale on Friday we are going to rejoin. We use it a lot for Christmas shopping and things that just aren't worth the hassle of shopping around for the best price.

It's funny reading some of the other responses in regards to difficulty in shopping. I live and work right smack dab in the middle of a nice-sized, medium population city. 250,000 people in the city proper. But most big box stores do not exist here. They are all out in the suburbs...which are 15-20 minutes away (one way), without traffic. And usually there is traffic, lol.

We have Walmart...but only one for the last 10 years. We just got our 2nd and 3rd ones this year. No Sam's (though there was one before Hurricane Katrina) and got our first Costco two years ago. No Best Buy. No Target. No Sears. No JC-Penney.

I try the best I can to do "bundle runs". So I'm not driving for 30 minutes round trip to pick up one thing.

Come to think of it, it probably saves me money. I'm always getting coupons for World Market and seeing specials for Target...but then I'm like, "Do I really want to drive for 30 minutes total to get 20% off Archer snacks (Target) or 25% off pumpkin pie flavored coffee (World Market)?" No, I really don't, lol.

I agree Amazon Prime is great, DH had it for a year. We don't have it anymore though because our work has Amazon business account that has comparable benefits, but not fee!

@hoffse--sometimes they have promotions for PrimePantry where they waive the shipping. I've seen that a couple of times. I haven't tried it yet because I've noticed that when I start trying to fill a box to make it worth the shipping, I end up spending more than I really needed to.

I looked into it because hey, who wouldn't mind one less errand (grocery shopping). I found the prices weren't good enough to make it worth the convenience, I can usually do better shopping sales, buying generics, and using my store's digital coupons. Plus, I get fuel points at my grocery store. I could totally see how it'd be worth it if I still lived in Chicago though, where the only grocery store within walking distance was expensive.

I keep debating prime. I don't order a lot, but I do have times where I order a bunch of stuff, but at that point I qualify for the free shipping anyway and don't need it in a hurry.
