Re: NMR: If you watched the debates who did you like?

  • Okay "idiotic feminists" was the wrong word. but we all know the extreme type i'm talking about. Its those hardcore women that are either gay or unmarried because they hate ALL men and the second a female gets up on that stage they are all of a sudden way into politics. They don't even care about political issues. But you can bet they want a female president. Like somehow gender has anything to do with your ability to run a country.I heard the same thing with obama and the blacks and "we need a black man in there". SO many people saying they just wanted a black man or they just wanted to "make history" so they voted for obama. Ofcourse those are probably just people who would normally not vote and not even know the presidents name - but they'll vote to try to "make history" or like "yea sure it would be cool to have a woman/black president"

I see everyone as equals and gender or the color of your skin shouldn't have anything to do with your ability to run a country but somehow that makes you electable. Lets face it - if Hillary was a man and there was all that junk in the media about her - they wouldn't be pushing to get her on the ballot because it would be too negative. But since she can play that "gender card" she's all of a sudden electable.

I wasn't talking about feminists just in the "equal rights for women" sense at all. I honestly don't even consider those people feminists. A feminist to me is someone who thinks women are BETTER then men - not equal. Trust me i'm all for equal rights - i was underpaid for years because i'm a woman. A man with less experience and less education that was working underneath me - was paid more then me. But i still don't describe myself as a feminist. I guess its just a matter of how you define "feminist" or maybe i just know one too many extremes that just put a bad taste in my mouth.

This is incredibly offensive and unbelievably misguided.

  • I can tell you if Hilary is the Dem nominee I won't be voting for her.  I think it would be harder for her to win if Carly is the Repub nominee against Hillary because those that would just vote for a woman soley based on the gender would have another option to consider.

The DoD enters no-bid contracts without limit, and often there is not a stated price per unit.  The department isn't audited, and they can spend pretty much whatever they want on ridiculous stuff, without oversight.

    Here's a nice synopsis:

My point is you could have exactly the same military infrastructure at a fraction of the price if the military was ever actually audited and somebody took the time to plug the holes.
You didn't state this at first, though in your PP about cutting military. See, I agree with oversight on ANY spending and if this is your stance on it, then I agree with you. "Cutting defense" and "overseeing defense spending," are two very different things.

No, I just mentioned it as an aside that defense is an obvious place to cut.  It is, because the overspending there is outrageous due to lack of oversight.  Cut their budget and somebody might finally examine the big black hole of ridiculous spending.

I don't think the military needs to get any bigger, at least not until they utilize the resources they currently have.  My favorite cousin is navy, and he'll be the first to tell you that his whole experience has been kind of a taxpayer scam.  They have put him through college, language school (he speaks Arabic), and now they are going to put him through med school.  He's never been deployed (they keep cancelling it), and instead he works 20 hours a week at the gym on base and gets full military pay/benefits.  In his spare time he flips houses because he says he needs more to do.

Obviously, I am personally very glad he's never been deployed.  But objectively, they have a guy who is pretty fluent in Arabic (which they paid for), and he's never translated so much as a menu for the military.  It's a huge waste.  He thinks it's a waste too, and he really hates that he spent all this time learning this skill that has never been used.

I'm a moderate Democrat. After the first debate, I actually considered voting for Kasich or Christie. After the second debate, I realized that I just can't side with any of them. I'm hoping Biden runs, and I'd like to hear more specifics from Sanders.

I don't agree with her policies and would never vote for her, but I honestly love Carly. She has a great demeanor, seems really intelligent, and she holds her own against Trump (who is a complete joke to me).

  • I love this post! I'd like to respond to several points, but I don't remember who said them.

    1. Add me to the list of feminists who won't be voting for Hillary.

    2. I agree with those that want to cut defense spending. Our military is so much larger than any other country's. H was in the Army for 9 years, and he cracks up laughing at every GOP candidate that says they would add "15 X type of ships, planes, etc." to our fleet. They usually are referring to equipment that H says is totally obsolete and that we already have 20 times more than any other country. On the contrary, I'm all about investing in new technology.

    3. I'm torn on healthcare. On a personal level, I LOVE high deductible plans. If you are smart and plan right, you can really play them to your advantage. However, since the majority of Americans couldn't come up with $3,000 in an emergency, I'm not sure they are a good solution.  I think that we need solutions that ensure all Americans have paid their fair share for healthcare and all Americans have access to it. I'm glad ACA requires people to get insurance. I don't think its fair that I pay my monthly premiums and someone else can choose to waste their money on other things and then get the exact same care for free in the ER. I don't understand why the party of personal responsibility can't get behind that concept.

    4. Taxes/Spending - I'm so concerned about our debt that I would support a candidate that says they would raise my taxes AND cut government services. I think we are all going to have to make some sacrifices one way or another, and a balanced approach is probably best anyway.

    5. My number one issue: Regulations on Wall Street. I think Dodd Frank is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I simply could never support a candidate that wants to repeal it. I believe that the financial crisis of 2008 was caused by deregulation under the Bush years, and I don't want to go back there again. Also I definitely believe in global warming, and I don't think big business should be able to run wild and free, destroying the environment. I also support raising minimum wage. I don't believe in Trickle Down economics, and I think the widening disparity between rich and poor proves that it isn't real. I'm pretty conservative on other issues (shortening unemployment, welfare reform, reasonable tax reform, etc.), but I probably sound like a raging socialist on this one. :)
