End of the year goals?

I can't believe there are only 2 months left in 2015!

What things are you wanting to accomplish by the end of the year?

Ex: Personal/financial/career/home/etc

Re: End of the year goals?

  • This year has gone by crazy fast!

    Financially:
    • Purchase life insurance
    • Get our 2015 monthly records into Excel (used paper & pencil until July and want the rest of the year on Excel to calculate year totals).
    • Create a short-term (~2yr) financial and home-update plan

    Personal:

    • Eat at home more/meal plan better/eat healthier as a result
    • I'm dead set on making this Christmas season not stressful. Last year I was so worried about buying gifts...and I look back and cringe about how stressed I was. This year I want to make the season about experiences, not stuff.

    Home:

    • Chimney sweep/inspection was on our list for this fall, which was completed yesterday, so that's done!
    • Finish washing the windows
    • We're eyeing drapes for our bedroom that we'd like to purchase, but need to look at the budgets for Nov/Dec first.
  • Can't believe there's less than 2 months left of 2015!

    Financial
    - Get our beef for the year
    - Get back on track with being savvy with the food budget
    - Button up some car repairs so hopefully all of our vehicles are in good working order and no longer need constant maintenance.

    Personal
    - Lose these 10 pounds of weight I gained when going back to work.
    - Get back into a running routine, at least 3-4 days/week
    - Figure out what I want with my career and where I see myself going.
    - Get into a better balance of juggling everything and being a mom.

    Home
    - Hang the pictures along our upstairs hallway.
    - Figure out a picture collage in the new living room.
    - Price out materials for finishing the inside of the garage.
    - Start beginning stages of plans for the kitchen.

    Home:

    • Finishing all the leaves in the yard...we have oak trees that are just starting to drop them
    • Have the chimney cleaned..the previous owners never did it, then we will buy the equip to do it ourselves
    • Start savings money for the fence in the spring we want to put up
    • Start re-doing the bedrooms
    • Get carpet/re-finishing hard woods estimates
    • Paint 2 more closets
    • Clean radiators

    Financially:

    • Start saving for our May vacation/start watching flights
    • Keep spending in check
    • Keep saving

    Personal:

    • Keep my sanity at work, I'm in a funk there lately
    • Just enjoy the month of December...Christmas makes me very happy all month long
    • Start eating better/join a better gym to keep me motivated

  • Financial: Stay on budget through the rest of the year. Use my Christmas Budget wisely and refrain from overspending. Squirrel away enough extra money to be able to purchase gifts for charity.

Personal: Work on creating some childhood magic for my kids. I feel like our lives are so busy I want to make time for some special experiences. For example a bubble bath instead of just a quick bath before bed, pancakes for a weekend breakfast, etc.

Home: Decorate the upstairs, including our kids' room. We've been here almost a year and nothing is hung up on the second floor!

    Financially:
    • Transfer $4,500 into savings before the end of 2015 ($500/paycheck for November and December)
    • Create a short-term (~2yr) financial and home-update plan. Figure out what needs to get done to the house (definitely an upstairs bathroom gut in early 2016) to get it on the market starting in Spring 2017 (that's if we find a house we like right away). The goal is to complete things so that if we do find a new house, it will be easy to get ours on the market as soon as the offer is accepted.

    Personal:

    • Continue to work out in the morning.. maybe try some yoga.
    • Keep up meal preps and eating at home- has been working out great for DH and the girls to get dinner started before I come home.
    • Finish up the girls' quilts for Christmas and try to get my mom's complete too for the holidays (if not, her birthday is in May). Start a 2016 list of ones I want to make.

    Home:

    • Price out the new bathroom. Keeping things simple- new pedestal sink (ours currently has a spider crack in the bowl- we actually bought the house with it like that), new tub, new faucets for both, white subway tile for the tub, marble hexagon or basketweave for the floor, new mirror, new lights (already purchased), paint, new vent and make sure ventilation is working properly. Toilet is only 2 years old (had to buy a smaller round bowl so it's pretty limited in selection) and the towel bar/toilet paper holder are really cute and from PB so those will be reused.
    • Clean gutters, rake again: hopefully this weekend since it will be nice out.

  • Financially:
-Finish figuring out this stupid health insurance haha!
-Sit down with H to decide how we want to pay for our backyard landscaping project next spring.
    -Continue to build my savings

    Personal:
-Work on a healthier lifestyle again... eating better and exercising at least 3 days a week, to prepare for hypothetical baby

    Home:
-Organize the guest room, which is currently where I've shoved everything from the wedding
-Put together a file cabinet I already bought, and set up a filing system for our important papers

  • Financial: Surpass $75,000 in retirement savings. Update our budget to reflect refinancing into a 15 year loan versus a 30 year. Home: Furnace tune-up and vent cleaning.

  • Financial:

-Finalize our 2016 once we know if we will see any raises next year

-Get the final bill for our porch (if it ever gets done!) so we know what the total is; hoping it comes out less than the estimate

    Personal:

-Keep up my morning workouts; I just got back into it this week after slacking off for a couple of months

-Figure out new grocery shopping and eating habits now that H has some new dietary restrictions (food allergies that we are just now figuring out)

    Home:

-Do a deep cleaning of every room before winter hits

  • There are so many things I want to do... this winter/next year. Haha

Only a few I can think of for the rest of this year:

    - Figure out a nice and inexpensive ideas for Christmas gifts (thinking of a DIY or baked goods for grandparents/aunts and uncles

    - Successfully host H's family for Christmas eve dinner again this year (I have no idea what to make)

    - Save up for a Feb vacation (this may change as we're having trouble finding a good price so we may nix the idea)

-Get a new pair of running shoes and GPS watch so I can get back into running around. I actually ran 3 miles straight, outside yesterday which is the first time in years. I'm pretty excited about it.

  • Personal/financial/career/home/etc

    Financial

    • Get my "soon to be finished" two rental units rented out and new tenants for my home unit to start Jan. 1st.
    • Pay HELOC down $4K in Dec. (will depend on first goal).
    • Start my online business (finally).
    • Get under contract for one more rental investment.

    Personal

    • Get myself into the habit of working out 4-5x/week.
    • Eat less than 1200 calories/day (on average) by cooking in more and bringing my leftovers to work more.

    Home

    • Konmari my house.  Thanks @hoffse, ordered my book on Amazon and got it in the mail yesterday.
    • Once I'm Konmari-ed, the "longtime on the back burner" house upgrades begin.  Start repainting the interior.  With many more items to come in 2016.
    • Get quotes for expanding the kitchen.  It will be a "popout", so alas, this involves knocking down exterior walls.
    • Replace my broken hot water dispenser with a new one.

    Career

    • Pray I don't get laid off anytime soon.  Ugh!

  • Oh another one.
    - Get our "legacy box" put together.  Equipped with our Will, life insurance papers, all of the important stuff.  Just in case anything were to happen, and share the code to the safe with our parents.

  • Personal
    • Practice mindfulness techniques to help with anxiety disorder
    • Set aside time to catch up on the phone with my a couple long-distance friends
    • Read a book for fun.
    Financial
    • Get student loan balance under 20k
    • Stick to our Christmas budget and travel frugally to visit family
    Career
    • Finish 2-3 free continuing education courses online.
    • Catch up on my stack of contracts to file and create an SOP for contracts so our COO will get off my back about filing things he's never given me. It won't solve the problem, but it will help me out when he freaks out.
    • Remind my supervisor about our July conversation on a raise and a slow transition away from some of my administrative duties and towards member services. Probably need to have similar convo with the CEO, but he's only here about 15 more sporadic days before 2016, so that will be harder.
    Home
    • Put up some damn wedding pictures! It's been a year, it's time.
    • Finish a DIY coat rack I've been planning.
    • Wash our pillows.
    • Sell our two extra coffee tables.

This reminds me, I should add to my list that I need to order our wedding prints.  I have a $100 print credit so I need to use it!
  • I want to get wills and power of attorney documents drawn up so I can drop the Met Legal from my benefit package.

We have our new budget set up and in place and are putting money into savings to prep for our bathroom remodel that is scheduled for January.  We are doing some extra work (replacing doors and casings for example) to make us happier with the finished product.  We don't have the final estimate yet but we might be $1-2,000 short on paying cash.  DH will get a bonus in February so we will probably throw the balance onto our HELOC and pay that off with the bonus.

Home:  So much.. since we are buying a new place, what we plan to do by the end of the year:

    • Paint some rooms and the front door.

We need to get in early next year and create a trust now that we will be in a long term house and have a kid!
    Anniversary
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm keeping it simple - have enough money saved to pay our property taxes and xmas gifts, get this ACA appeal process finished lord help me, enroll in a new health insurance plan for 2016.  I also need to add up all our HSA items for 2015 so we can deduct on taxes and get all my W9s done for my employees.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • For the end of the year yet my goals are pretty simple. Save as much as possible to be prepared for baby. Hopefully sell our rental house so we can pay off our mortgage on our home. But I think my biggest goal is to get the nursery together again. It needs organized to get ready for a new baby.
