2016 Goals and Resolutions

What are yours - book-related and non-book related?

Re: 2016 Goals and Resolutions

  • No real goals.  I have a tendency to look for the next thing and am always thinking 900 steps into the future.  My goal is just to slow down and be more content with what I do have.
    imageLilypie Third Birthday tickers
  • My reading goal is to finish the Song of Fire & Ice series, which will likely cut into my GR's goal of 100 books but oh well.

As far as other resolutions/goals, I would like to start running again this year as well as get my out of whack hormones in check. I am making an appt to see a naturopathic doctor soon to help with that last one. :)

  • Book goals - Hit my reading challenge goal of 116 books for the year.  Last year was the first year I didn't make it.

Non-Book goals - Get healthy, loose weight, eat better, get back to exercising.  Also, purge and organize my house.  Not let the little things bother me and yell less at my kids lol.

Jessica, Married to Brian 12/27/03, Mom to Alex 6/27/94, Devin 10/29/04, and Emily 1/15/07
  • My book goal is 116 and I'm considering making at least 12 (or maybe 16?) non fiction.  I really struggle with those, but I recently read a Kurt Cobain one that was fascinating, so I'm wondering if I'm picking the wrong subject matter (history).

I'm going to try to unplug more.  At work, it's hard, but at home, I'm going to try to leave my phone on the counter and stay off my ipad more.  I'm too connected.

  • My book goal for the year is 60 books.

I am making 2016 the year of me. I am going to work out more and make better food choices because I really do feel better when I do both of these things. I'm also resolving to take better care of my skin and floss more.

  • Ideally I'd love to read 24 books this year, I'm just not sure I can stick to a book every 2 weeks without hitting some YA and quick reads in there. Thankfully I enjoy YA a lot, I just want to branch out. In a perfect world I'd read 28 books to make my good reads 100 books read, but I can't pressure myself.

As far as other goals, I don't have a lot, but I should work out more. I have access to a gym and pool (sometimes) at work. I have to push myself to go after work once the kids are back, I know I feel a lot better. I'd like to get back into a good routine of flossing and adding better food to my diet as well. I have lofty crafting/knitting goals for friends and family, however that will cut down on my time to knit for charity groups. I guess I just have to learn to balance my time better which should be a goal.
  • Book goal is 65.

Not really a resolution, but my goal for this year is to really work on learning French. I am self teaching, so it's difficult. The weird thing is, my English doesn't get in the way. My Spanish does. I want to pronounce everything like you would in Spanish, and use Spanish grammar rules. Sigh. I'm having fun learning, though! I love languages, and this is my fourth. English, Spanish, ASL, and now French. Japanese is next. I am by no means fluent in all of these, but I'm working on it!

If you're looking for more music non-fiction, I could recommend a few.  ;)
  • I have several.  I want to read 75 books this year. I want to declutter my house.  I think I'm just going to try for one area or room a month so it's not so daunting.  I want to buy a car.  I know this one shouldn't be difficult but I'm really indecisive and have trouble pulling the trigger.   I also really need to work on my physical fitness.  I work out a lot but I'm stuck in a rut.  I need a new diet and exercise plan.  I'd really like to see some results this year instead of just maintaining.

  • I just want to read more period. I didn't bother tracking what I read last year but I also didn't make reading a priority. I want to get back into reading a little bit more.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

Someday could we start this as a thread? I feel like rock related books and biographies of rock stars is coming up more and more lately.

I'm very guilty of just reading what's on my Kindle which is usually garbage, or getting cheap/free books for my Kindle which also tend to be garbage. I'm going back to proper paper books this year.

  • @SnShne322
The Dave Grohl one (This is a Call) was good, but it wasn't really insightful, and I think it was a bit premature.  He's so young and kind of at the prime of his career, so it just seems like he's still got a lot of fantastic shit to do yet.  I prefer autobios when I can get them, too.  It was interesting, though, and if you're a fan, it was worth reading.

Anthony Keidis's Scar Tissue was amazing.  I might be biased because the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been one of my favorite bands for as long as I can remember paying attention to music, but I've heard a lot of people say they loved that book.

Motley Crue's The Dirt was one of my other favorites.  It's written in chunks by each band member to tell a whole story from a few angles, which is neat.  I was never much of a fan of them; I liked their radio songs, but I don't think I ever owned an album.  I always had a thing for Tommy Lee, though.  But that book was insane.  The lifestyle that they lived was insane.  I went to see them with DH and his cousin a few years ago, and became a fan because they put on a great show.  Tommy Lee's book was God-awful, and Nikki Sixx's Heroin Diaries was only worth looking at if you're a fan of him and/or of drug culture memoirs; it was weird.  And I can't even with Vince Neil - his parts of The Dirt were the worst.

I could go on all day.
  • Books: Read at least 52 adult books; read at least one novel with my kids a month. I'd like to read a bit more non-fiction this year. I'd like about half my books read to be off my shelves or kindle.

Real-Life: Get a new job and relocate there. Our family's general thought this year is "nourishment" so I'm spending more time and effort to take improved care of our diets, fitness, skin, quality-time, and education.
  • I'd like to read 150 books and I'd like 25 of them to be books that I own as of January 1 of this year. My personal goals are just to make yoga a daily practice and to eat less sugar/carbs.  I got a nutribullet for Christmas and I'm becoming quite the smoothie queen already.

My goal this year is to be more organized. And more goal-oriented.

I have a hard time sticking to sweeping goals (e.g., read 100 books a year) so I need to break it down. So for January, I will finish one book. (I know, it's pathetic. But with two small kids and job, I need to start small.)

This week, I will go to the gym three times. I made it to the gym today so yay! Only two more days to go. :P
    image imageimage
  • My bookish goals are to read 52 books and to focus on non-fiction and books I own.

The big goal for 2016 is to save ALL the money.  We want to buy a house this year and go to Europe next year so we need to save every penny.  I also just want to keep exercising regularly and tracking what I eat.

  • My book goal is to carve out at least 30 minutes a day to read. Reading is not a priority of mine and I want to change that.

My non-book goal is to get a solid gym routine going and eating better.  I also want to work on finding ways to improve my mental health.  I let stress and anxiety get to me way to much.
    Siggy coming soon....

@dutchgirl7 @snshne322 @SusieBW Have you read Steven Tyler's autobiography?  It was RAW and jaw dropping but it made me respect him as a musician.  (Though I needed a traquilizer when I was done!)

I read the Aerosmith book (Walk This Way, I think it was called?), and I was so sick of Steven Tyler by the time I was done, I could never bring myself to read a whole book by/about him.  The Aerosmith book was really good though.  It was written the way that Motley Crue's book was, with little snippits from each person to tell the whole story.  It made me like Steven Tyler a lot less and Joe Perry a lot more.  :)

I read a horrible David Bowie bio that I would suggest avoiding altogether. I was so disappointed because I won it on GR and it was just...bad. So bad.

I put Scar Tissue on hold.  I wasn't a huge RHCP fan, but he always fascinated me.  I'll put the others on my TBR list.

Are there any good Eddie Vedder/PJ ones? I have a friend who is so beyond obsessed with EV that I think it would be fun/funny to be more knowledgeable on him.

Do you know of any that discuss the 90's Seattle scene? More so I would love like a family tree of grunge.  So and so was in this band with this person, but they left.  Then so and so died and they became this band.  It's so warped that I would love to get a good grasp on it.

  • Books: I'll prob have a goal of 40 this year.  It's going to be a busy busy year and I don't want to set myself up for failure.

    Real-Life:
    Few things...
Exercise more. I bought a few DVDs for me to do at home- kickboxing, pilates, yoga, slim in 6

I hope to not take things to heart so much anymore as I tend to do.  At least I confront people when something bothers me. We talk about it and move on. :)

Delicious carbs are the reason why my hips, booty and thighs look how they do. The madness must end. Especially before dress fittings. Lol

I don't think anyone can see what I have read from the library. Unless I share it from Goodreads.
