I put Scar Tissue on hold.  I wasn't a huge RHCP fan, but he always fascinated me.  I'll put the others on my TBR list.

Are there any good Eddie Vedder/PJ ones? I have a friend who is so beyond obsessed with EV that I think it would be fun/funny to be more knowledgeable on him.

Do you know of any that discuss the 90's Seattle scene? More so I would love like a family tree of grunge.  So and so was in this band with this person, but they left.  Then so and so died and they became this band.  It's so warped that I would love to get a good grasp on it.
Pearl Jam is supposed to be touring this year.  DH and I are hoping to plan a vacation around a show.  The rumored dates included a Saturday night show in Nashville the weekend between our birthdays, so I'm hoping that they confirm those rumored dates.  I'm seriously obsessing over this tour announcement.

I don't know of any good Pearl Jam books though.  There's Pearl Jam Twenty, but I always thought that was more like a coffee table photo book than a biography of the band.  That might be worth checking out, though.  The film by the same name was great.  From a quick Google search, there's an EV one called None Too Fragile, but the reviews are not awesome.  I think I feel the same way about a bio of EV as I do about the Dave Grohl one: it seems premature.

DH and I were just talking about the incestuous nature of all the Seattle bands the other night.  He got me the new Chris Cornell album for Christmas, so we got talking about Temple of the Dog and all of that.  God, I love Chris Cornell.  Grunge Is Dead and Everybody Loves Our Town seem to be the two biggest books about Seattle and 90s grunge, and they both have decent reviews.  I haven't read either of them, but I'd be interested in either one.

I haven't synced my library to my Kindle. I'm too afraid of people seeing what I've read. So embarrassing.
I just marked Buttception as Read on Goodreads. Where I have several friends. And which is linked to my Facebook. Anything you have can't be that bad! Haha!

(I toyed with the idea of making a new "yeah-I-read-that" shelf.)

  • My book related resolution at this point is to read more than one chapter in a book.  Since November I have read about one chapter in EVERY book I own and cant commit to anything.  So I haven't read anything since November.  I SUCK.

As for life resolutions.  HA!  I resolve to try not to fuck things up this year.
    90 books in 2015?

  • Book goal is 65.

Not really a resolution, but my goal for this year is to really work on learning French. I am self teaching, so it's difficult. The weird thing is, my English doesn't get in the way. My Spanish does. I want to pronounce everything like you would in Spanish, and use Spanish grammar rules. Sigh. I'm having fun learning, though! I love languages, and this is my fourth. English, Spanish, ASL, and now French. Japanese is next. I am by no means fluent in all of these, but I'm working on it!
    Then we can practice Japanese!

I think I just formed a new non-book resolution. I have a Japanese reader that's been sitting on my shelf untouched for years as I forget all of my vocabulary and kanji. I think I will resolve to break it out at least a few times this year, in spite of redirecting all my language efforts to more practical Norwegian and Portuguese.

  • After this year's stretch-goal failure, my book goal is back to 25. And I must make it.

My non-book goal is to work less. This is Step 1 in GilliC's Master Plan to Get in Shape and Take Care of Herself. (Because I get home so tired that I can't bring myself to cook, clean, work out, or do any other responsible adult things. Or even read, as we saw in 2015!)

I saw, and loved PJ20.  I'll take a look at the book and see if it offers anything more than the film did.

Wes LOVES Nirvana.  About a Girl is his favorite song ever.  It kind of tripped my trip down memory lane with the movie and book. And I was like, oh maybe he'd like Foo Fighters.  You know, sort of the same band, but not.  Trying to explain to a 3 year old the workings of Seattle grunge is futile.  Much like my Facebook loving French Grandmother.

LOL!  Tatum is really into Fall Out Boy.  Ever since that one song in Big Hero 6, she loves every single FOB song I put on for her.
  • I agree the Kindle Lending Library books are terrible. I fell for "Finding Emma" and the follow up, ugh, but it added 2 more books so I guess that's good.

Scar Tissue was fantastic, I would recommend that book to many genres. I love rock related books and I love drug/addiction books so it really hits both. I happened to go through an addiction related loss about 6 months before I read that book so it really helped understand the other side. Speaking of addiction, I have the Scott Weiland "Not Dead, not for Sale" book to read and "Fall to Pieces" by one of his ex wives. I heard Scott's book isn't that great because he was in a bad cycle and gave up on a lot of chapters.

I've heard great things about the Motely Crew book...Is that the one Loreli Glimore read on the show or was there another 80's band? I'm sure that's on the Rory Gilmore challenge.

Regarding grunge...I got "Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge" for Christmas, haven't read it yet but I'm really excited.
  • My only book goals are to finish mine and to actually make the time to read some of the books on my shelves.

I'm very guilty of just reading what's on my Kindle which is usually garbage, or getting cheap/free books for my Kindle which also tend to be garbage. I'm going back to proper paper books this year.
@pinkybooklover09 After I moved and had more space for books this year, I swore off ebooks and it's been the best thing EVER. I don't miss my Nook in the slightest. I have a small collection of books downloaded to my phone if I'm ever faced with lots of downtime and forgot my book, but otherwise I'm back to paper and loving it.

    52 Books in 2014??

    My sweet babies:
    imageimageimageimage

  • Bookish things: I'm going to read a book a week, and get books from the library.
Non-bookish things:  I'm keeping my spending diet going.  I need to work on cutting debt.  Or play the lotto more.  Whichever.

  • Go to the Library more sounds like a great goal to add. I don't think I'm alone in this, but I love the smell of books.
  • I love seeing everyone's goals for the year!  It's so hard for me not to add them all to my list.  We did a goal setting night with my book club and it was SO HARD not to add every idea everyone had to my list.  I want to meet ALL THE GOALS!
    imageimage image
  • Ugh. I had so much going on last year that I didn't meet my reading goal. I'll be more realistic (considering what I have going on this year) and say 50 books.

Oh, and H and I have the goal of buying an investment property.

Overall, I hate resolutions. I like to think of goals and lifestyle changes instead.
    75 Books in 2015?

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • @MrsJenE - I do love a lifestyle change! I blame Oprah.

@Lauren84 - I think I'm going to have to swear off e-books for the first quarter of 2016. My paper books are just sitting there so lonely. I need to be deliberate in making time for myself to read. How sad is it that I've become so lazy that I can't even be bothered to pick up a book and open it?

This is how we end up like the humans in Wall-E.

  • Book Related: I'd love to read 50 books for 2016.  That's a huge jump from 2015 (I only read 14), but now that I'm home with  my son, I'm hoping to have more time to read.  Hears to wishful thinking!

Non Book Related: Have a better year than last year.  Last year sucked. :(( I won't go into details, but it just sucked in so many ways.  So, I hope to take more care of me.  Focus on family more and my marriage more.  Be healthier (drink more water, less junk food, etc.).  Be more present.  And be more silly with my kids.
    Books Read in 2016: 4/50

  • My reading goal was big last year and I had to keep dropping it due to two job changes and the kids taking up all of my time.  My main reading resolutions are to just read more this year, start posting on this board and finish up two series that I have been reading for about two years now!
