I think Amazon is one of the biggest money/time savers we use - even at full price I love it!

I was so skeptical about joining- never figured it would ever be worth it. We got a free year as a part of a promo when we switched cable companies and we will probably never go without it. Prime now delivers to my husbands work, and that is the most amazing thing ever. We've used it once already and I'm happy to know that if I need something when baby gets here, I can order it to his office and have it when he gets home without him having to stop and shop. And let's face it, since I do most of the shopping whatever it was would take him 30+ minutes to find at target or wherever. I do agree that some of the prices aren't the best way to buy things, but for the most part they have a good selection and prices.

I love me some Amazon Prime. It's a huge time saver for me... we live in a rural-ish area, meaning it's about a 20 minute drive to get to any shopping areas, and those shopping areas are always crowded. So, instead of having to spend my lunch breaks or a few hours on a weekend running errands or looking for some random item in a store, I can just have it delivered to my house.

I also like that you can read reviews and comparison shop. I recently was buying some new stainless steel measuring spoons, as all my plastic ones were wearing out, the measurements were rubbing off, etc. It seems like a silly little purchase, but I really use them a lot and wanted something nice quality, so I read reviews and picked out a set that had excellent reviews. And, they were only $13. Similar smaller sets at somewhere like Bed Bath and Beyond are $20.

Agreed, the time saving aspects to it alone are worth it to us. It often saves us from having to run a few errands each weekend, and that's super valuable to us.

I also really love their movie/show collection. They have HBO now.

Another great perk is you can get some money back through Swagbucks, ebates, etc. or have that money back sent to a charity of your choice.

Don't forget Amazon Smile! If you order through that portal it's the exact same Amazon site/prices/prime eligibility but Amazon donates a portion of your order amount to the charity of your choice (from a list they have, but it's a loooong list. It even had my local women's shelter so it's not just national charities). It's obviously not a ton of money, and certainly doesn't replace regular giving, but hey - every penny helps!

Good deal! DH actually got a year of Amazon Prime free when he got his new phone, but hopefully this deal will happen again when we need to renew next Winter.

That's a nice discount! I wish I could use it. I LOVE Amazon Prime. I'm also an Amazon Mom and Smile member. Love Amazon Mom when we were buying diapers and wipes. Cheaper than buying in store, even with coupons, and it was delivered to my door, each month via Subscribe & Save, for free!!!

*cries* just found out we have to start paying sales tax on Amazon purchases here in CO starting Feb 1.

I knew it would happen eventually. Glad we bought our TV before that went into effect.

What! What is this evilness that you speak of? That is super lame. Quite frankly, Amazon is such a big target, I'm surprised this hasn't already happened in most states.

For me on online purchases, it seems like I get charged tax if there is a brick and mortar store somewhere in the state, but don't outside of that.

That is exactly it. If amazon has a distrubution center (or any other buildings) in your state, you have to pay sales tax on it. They came to MA a couple years ago and we started getting charged sales tax, before that there was no tax.

I think this is a big reason I've never found Amazon to have very good deals. We've had a distribution center in KS for well over a decade, so I've always had to pay tax. Because of this, I've always found drugstore.com to be a much better deal when you count their points program and miles or cash back through portals.

I might be safe for a good while then. Louisiana isn't exactly a state that big businesses flock to.

You might be surprised. They chose Kansas because of the low wages they could get away with paying employees. Of course there are other factors (central proximity, etc.) but being super LCOL was a big factor (it's also in a fairly rural area that offers few other employment options).

I agree @als1982, they don't have the best deals on everything. The big benefit for us is that H is a tech guy and he's always ordering odd batteries, chargers, etc. through Amazon Basics. We also like the streaming video since it's the only way to get Orphan Black.
