Monday Accountability

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards goals?

3. What are your Easter plans?

Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. $4 Marshalls, $18 Gas

    2. $330 to furniture ($1K left), $100 to ROTH's, $600 to house projects, $225 to vacation account. Wohoo!

    3. My parents are hosting Easter so we will be going to their house along with my relatives.

  • 1 - it was busy with DDs bday on Friday.  Friday DD and I got pedicures, ate lunch out with DH and saw the movie zootopia.  Saturday I played a wedding in the afternoon and we got pizza on the way home.  Sunday we spent at my MILs to celebrate DDs bday at her house.

2 - $350 to savings and $350 to retirement  AND  as of last night we are back to $6k in our e fund and we can more aggressively save for hard wood floors :) goal is 2 years

3 - We are celebrating easter at my moms house on saturday, egg hunt at MILs church, and going to yoga church on Sunday morn.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? It was pretty good- groceries ($154), Gap ($23), DH shoes for work ($83), Joann's ($38).

    2. Any progress towards goals? $500 went to savings, still waiting on state tax return.. it's under further review.. ugh. Personal goal- I sent out 3 quilts to be long-arm quilted (for my mom, a friend, and our guest room).. can't wait to get them back.  :)

    3. What are your Easter plans? baskets in the morning for the girls, dinner with DH's family. I took off the next day- it's DH and DD#1's last day before back to school so we'll keep DD#2 home too and have a family day.

  • 1.  We've been way too loose lately with not tracking every purchase, but I did make a few small returns to Party City and Home Depot to recoup a few dollars.

    2.  Not last week.  Today is our regular student loan payment of $370 and Thursday is my paycheck that goes toward the mortgage.  Nothing too exciting happens until the end of the month.

    3.  We're going to H's aunt and uncle's house.

  • 1) Our weekend was fairly cheap because we were doing a ton of house projects.  $100 for groceries, $10 for gas, and $60 finishing our walkway lights.

    2) We finished our interior doors, exterior doors, and built-ins!  So that was great.  I also got an LLM reimbursement last week, and that went to savings to hold for the next round of tuition payments.  I also got my business trip to DC approved for September, but unfortunately I'm going to have to float the costs for that until the trip is over.  Blegh, I should have known to expect it, but it's still annoying.  I get an extra paycheck in April, so I'm going to use that to pay the registration fee, flight, and hotel.  The other things don't have to be paid for in advance.

H and I are thinking of starting a reimbursement fund just for this kind of thing, and maybe keep $5-6K in there so we can float reimbursable expenses like this.  Historically we have used our e-fund to float reimbursements, but I don't like doing it for very long.  Thankfully, this one has a pretty easy solution because I haven't mentally allocated that extra paycheck to anything, but it could have been a problem if I had.  We just need to start anticipating these things better.  Sigh.

    3) H's family is coming to hear the Alabama symphony play one of his pieces next Wednesday, and then we have 5:45 AM flight to California the following day.  So our Easter is going to be spent cleaning and prepping for both of those things, after attending church.  We might do a nice meal in, but it's just going to be the two of us.

  • 1. $100 groceries, $170 garden supplies; with the exception of some soil ammendments once I get a pH measure on different parts of the veggie garden later this spring and a couple veggies/herbs that I buy as plants instead of seed that should be the extent of my garden spending for the year.

    2. some progress; jobs are still up in the air (H had a second interview for a new position and I'm waiting to see what my offer letter will look like once I'm layed off); so we're in a holding pattern of trying to catch-up from baby.

    3. we're headed to my mom's for easter

  • 1.  Not too bad, considering we had friends in town.  $10 for parking downtown, and $14 to get into a piano bar.  H paid the bar tab.  $77 at the grocery store, and tonight after work I'm going to Costco, expecting to spend around $100 there.  Also filled up my tank on Friday ($25), but we drove down to a friend's kid's birthday party which was a bit of a ways away, so I'm already down to a half tank, so I'll need to save a bit extra to have an extra fill up this pay period.

    2.  I transferred $400 to savings (which is eventually going to go to pay the taxes we owe).

    3.  No real plans, we aren't religious and we don't have family nearby.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

It was good, overall.  Didn't spend any money Friday or Saturday.  Sunday, my H and I spent $97 on a fancy brunch, but I will have it reimbursed back.  So, nothing spent Sunday either.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

See my "AW" thread.  I'm closing on a house this afternoon.  It will add about $650/month in cash flow.  But, my paycheck from last week that was going to go toward my HELOC balance is now mostly going toward the closing costs.  And the HELOC balance took a big hit to buy the house.  But, a good investment, overall.

    3. What are your Easter plans?

Good Friday is a holiday at my work, which pushes my half day to Thursday.  I'm thinking about taking Thursday off also and just turn it into a 4-day weekend.  Either way, I'm excited to have a long weekend.  Now I just need to figure out what to do with it, lol!

For Easter itself, my H and I don't do much.  If the weather is nice, we might BBQ and hang out on the deck, playing catch with the dog.  I'll also prepare a big batch of egg salad.  We both really like it.  And I use lowfat mayo, so it isn't the fat and calorie bomb that is usually a characteristic of the dish.

  • 1. Pricey, but budgeted:
    • $126 (7 chai) on a bar mitzvah gift
    • $40 on take out (DH can't restrain himself when ordering Chinese, but this will last us for several meals)
    • $4 on some OTC medication
    • $115 on my annual Terrific Lady Day (my birthday is this week and I gathered up the coupons that my favorite stores send out for my birthday month and a few gift cards and took myself out shopping and treated myself to fancy coffee. $115 got me the coffee, new stationary, sunglasses, a pair of heels, a pair of earrings, a blouse, blush, eyeliner, lipstick, a new napkin holder, a pretty water glass for my nightstand, some stuff for the bar, and a puppy toy - not too shabby!)
    • $25 gas for the car
    • $1k on our flights for our European vacation in May
    2. The usual weekly transfer from my paycheck into savings, but nothing extra. We were able to cash-flow our federal income tax bill which was a huge win to be able to not touch our savings for that!

    3. Heading to my mom's this year. I normally host but since my birthday falls on Easter this year she decided to give me a break  :)
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Really good.  Spent $21 on groceries and $2.50 at Redbox.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
My main goal this month was to go back to my gluten free/PCOS diet to hopefully regulate my body again.  So that meant getting even more savvy with the grocery bill.  I've been only going to the little local grocery store after work and getting fresh produce and odds and ends.  I've only spent $200 of our $400 grocery budget, and the includes $40 in dog and cat food. I'm also back to doing a ton of meal prepping on the weekends and snacking on fresh produce instead of packaged food.
Oh, and we're hosting Easter on Sunday.  I have the food all planned out and should come in around $50 to feed 30 people.  Frozen meat for the win!  H is going to smoke a large pork loin, brisket, and a whole chicken (all in our freezer).
Success!  Grocery budget has been our biggest downfall since DD was born.

    3. What are your Easter plans?
I have half a day on Friday for Good Friday.  Our church services aren't until 7pm, so we're taking DD to the children's museum in the afternoon.  Can't wait to have some family time.
Sunday is sunrise service and then we're loading up the smoker full of meat and having everyone over for lunch.

    1. How MM was your weekend?

--So so. We stayed in all day Saturday. I am still recovering from laryngitis, sinusitis and a bad cough. All souped up on steroids, cough drops, antibiotics and mucinex. So no money spent on Saturday, but I did spend about $120 on a doctors visit and drugs on Friday....ugh.

--Sunday--I was feeling a little better so we went out to breakfast, played putt putt, DH hit a few balls at the batting cage and we got Dunkin Donuts. So we spent about $45.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

--DH threw more money at his loans this month, so it's going down quickly.

--With our anticipated tax return, we will hit 7 months in our E-fund!

    3. What are your Easter plans?

--We do not celebrate Easter, so no real plans.

    1. How MM was your weekend? $150 groceries. We're hosting dinner Saturday and brunch Sunday, so our bill was higher than normal. Took the kids to a free event at the library, went to a free Easter egg hunt at our city park, and went to two minor hockey games (we had free tickets) but paid $25 and $20 for parking and snacks. Tickets for our family would have been about $175 for the two games. We love going but try to limit our games but H usually gets some tickets through work throughout the season. Great perk that we appreciate!
    2. Any progress towards goals? Trying to stick with our budget and save as much as we can! 3. What are your Easter plans? We are hosting my immediate family.

  • Morning ladies!
Sorry I fell off the grid for awhile there ... trying to get every thing in order.

    1. How MM was your weekend?
Spent very little. had to cover a small amount on dinner from Sunday, but knew that was going to happen. Still ahead of the game.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
Some! Credit paid, so that helps for sure

    3. What are your Easter plans?
Friday we're having my mum and in-laws over for dinner. Otherwise not sure.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Very good. We spent nothing all weekend actually!

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Unfortunately no.  As has been the unfortunate pattern it looks like March is going to be a breaking even month for us.  We funded a lot this month though, plus we do have a lot in savings now after tax time.

    3. What are your Easter plans?

We are traveling for my extended family to meet our newest addition!  She's nearly 8 months now but it will still be fun for everyone to hopefully hold the baby - she's almost at the stranger anxiety stage though so we'll see!
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Not bad. I had a ladies lunch with my mom, her sisters and my cousin. $0. H and I got some Cuban food on Sunday afternoon, $23.00. I also went to the basketball game on Saturday night, but I had free tickets! My friend bought me a beer.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

All bills were paid this week, for the month. We owe the IRS a little bit so that check had to be written.

    3. What are your Easter plans?

I don't celebrate Easter, but the office closes early on Good Friday, at noon. Maybe a little spring cleaning this weekend.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

    - Spendy. H and I each got new running shoes- $300 total. Our running shoes are expensive, but they last for a long time. I am trying to delay needed foot surgery (both feet) so I need comfortable shoes. H is on his feet all day so he needs quality gym shoes, too. $129 on groceries. $100 for travel goods for Vegas in two weeks. Then on Sunday, we went out to my parents' to help move a truckload of stuff. $16 on lunch and $16 on snacks for us and my parents.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    - Our Vegas fund is now fully funded and we sent $300 to savings.

    3. What are your Easter plans?

    - Nothing. I'm going back out to my parents' new place on Saturday to move another truckload of stuff. I may end up staying out there, but my dad had surgery today, so there won't be anything big going on.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Well, I went to Ikea planning to spend about $30 on a drying rack so we wouldn't be running the dryer so often, but ended up spending about $100 total. At least it was useful stuff. I got an extra laundry basket to transfer laundry to and from said drying rack, a larger bath mat (ours was tiny and the floor kept getting wet), a step stool for DD1 to be able to reach the sink to wash her hands/brush her teeth, and these wooden click-together floor tiles to extend the area of the ones we already have for our patio. Oh, and $2 on breakfast there :) . I didn't spend anything else the rest of the weekend.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

I registered FI for a 5% interest savings account. I have to wait until we get the card in the mail to activate the account, and once I transfer money in, he'll get a bonus $20 added to his account, and I'll get a $20 bonus added to the account I already have. Let me know if any of you want my referral link...we'll both get $20 if you use it!

    3. What are your Easter plans?

Nothing fancy. We're going to FI's parents' house for dinner, and we're going to do a little egg hunt there for the girls.
