AW: MM milestone

One of my goals for 2016 was for H and I to surpass $100K in our retirement accounts.  Well yesterday my employer finally made the final profit-sharing contribution to my 401(k) for 2015 (they got it in just under the wire), so we have finally hit that goal.  In terms of vested funds, H and I currently have $102K and change in our retirement accounts!  We have several thousand more that's not yet vested, but I won't count it until it's ours.

He is 28, and I am 29.

I am really proud of this accomplishment.  Everybody says the first $100K is the hardest!

    Congrats, that's a huge milestone!

We have a similar goal of saving $100k combined before I turn 30. DH is 29 (turns 30 in October) and I am almost 28. So we have just about 2 years and are current at $65k combined. I ramped up my contributions quite a bit this month and with our PERA match (government vested funds), we should hit $100k about 2 months before my 30th birthday.

  • Congrats!!!  I remember that was one of your all's goals and that  the downturn in the market had hampered it a bit.  Glad you all made it!
  • Congrats! So exciting!! We are on track to hit this goal by year end - can't wait!

DH and are so close to $150K, but I'll be more excited to see $200K.. also looking forward to when the girls' 529 plans hit $20K- should be by the end of the year.

  • Congrats!  It's nice to hear that someone works for a company that increases benefits.  I'm in the tech sector and they just keep getting worse. :(

Thanks everybody!  I have to give my employer props for having a very generous retirement plan.  That's one of the reasons we've gotten there so quickly.  They have a really high employer contribution rate with a short vesting schedule.  I'm 50% vested right now, but I will be 100% vested in January 2018.

They have been overhauling various plans/policies in an effort to attract and retain millenials and women in particular.  We get surveys every now and then asking us what else they can do for us.  As a result, our benefits keep getting better and better.  While no company is perfect, it's refreshing to work for one that does make an effort to improve.

I don't know what is more awesome, the fact that they ASK what they can do better or that they actually follow through with it.

Our benefit package is pretty basic and every year they cut more and more in the name of "keeping costs down".

  • That's awesome, congrats!  And I totally agree - the first 100k is the hardest!  I think you'll see it grow faster now.
  • Congrats!  It seems like I will never get to $200k - but I guess if I add DH's IRA to mine its almost there.

I'm a bit late to this but congratulations!!! That is really really exciting!

I just checked my 401k today and between that, my H's 401k, and my Roth IRA we're less than $10k until we hit that 100k goal too! I'm almost giddy right now!! H is fully vested and I think I'll be fully vested in September so it's just really exciting for both of us. For reference he just turned 30 this month and I'll be 29 in July.

  • That's a huge accomplishment. Just wait until all those student loans are paid off!

We've got $300K in our sights this year!
