Usually 1 big trip a year and then 2-3 smaller ones to visit family,  go camping or travel within the state.

Last year, we went to Europe for 3 weeks in December/January. In about 1 week, we are going to go to the East Coast (NYC, DC, Boston, Philadelphia) for two weeks.

We will probably see my family in California around Christmas. For us, it just depends how much we want to spend throughout the year. We both work at a school, so we have about 60 days vacation a year, but don't always travel during them.

1-2 per year.  We usually budget to pay for one and try to travel hack one.  The last one we travel hacked was Belgium & Germany over Christmas.  Our total trip costs were about $2,000 for 9 days.  It was mostly food, beer, and souvenirs/shopping.  We stayed in hotels the entire time.

We don't have any kids though, and I'm willing to churn credit cards for points.  H and I have a lot of reimbursable expenses for our jobs, so hitting a $3-$4K minimum spend is not difficult for us.

  • I'd say 1-2 international trips per year and 3-4 smaller 4-day weekend trips annually (Vegas, Orlando, NOLA, etc.) But it definitely depends on the year...

  • We've been alternating a big international trip every other year with a more local getaway or two. Every time we budget for big trips yearly, something else comes up that requires that money.
  • Usually 1 big one per yer, but we want to get back to 2 once we've completed our bigger house projects.
  • It depends.  Usually somewhere between 1 and 3.

Usually 1-2. I get pretty limited vacation time so we try to take a one week trip for us to somewhere we want to go, and then the second trip usually has to do with visiting family. I think I get an extra 5 days in September this year though so that will free things up for us quite a bit!

Next year we'll probably only do one trip since we're planning a pretty extensive vacation to Norway.
  • Since getting married (and not having a wedding or home down payment to save up for anymore) we've averaged one 2 week trip every 18 months or so with lots of little extended weekend getaways sprinkled throughout. We aren't picky about where we go as long as it's somewhere new so we typically choose based on price - our Amsterdam/Paris trip this past May was a total impulse but we save up plus find super cheap deals so that we CAN be impulsive. That 10 day trip cost $4500 for flights, accommodations, ground transport (including an accidental first class train ticket - so worth it though), sightseeing, and all incidentals including one fancy pants dinner in Paris.

1-2 actual vacations per year.  Some years I take one of those without H.
A lot of years there is one international, but not necessarily every year.  And most years one of the vacations is a long weekend to a city in the US, like this year we did a Fri-Mon in Memphis.

We also take 2 longer trips per year to visit family and about 3-4 weekend trips per year to visit family/friends that live within driving distance.

DH and I used to go on 2-3 vacations per year (one of them just being a road trip to NYC for a few days on my birthday). Since having the girls, our vacations were put on hold just because it was easier to stay home and I wiped out my vacation bank at work having them 20 months apart. Now we're back to traveling- took them to Disney World in February and it was their first plane ride. They did great and want to go back. We'll probably take them again in 2018 and we have a list of other places we want to go too... keeping a vacation fund has really helped!

  • Maybe 1-2.  I only get 2 weeks a year so we try to take one longer one (just got back yesterday from that), and then use the rest of my time for shorter long weekend trips.  We do a lot of camping since we have a camper that we make payments on, so that's considered "vacationing" for us.

Our only other trip this year is to Las Vegas to watch hockey, but we stay in the IL's condo in Mesquite, and flights are free with H's Southwest points, so we just pay for the games themselves, a rental car, and food.
  • Vacations are something I am trying to improve on!  I don't take enough, even though I love to travel.

My H and I usually go on one bigger trip (one week+) once every year or two.  We also take long weekends...usually to the Gulf Coast of FL...1-2x/year.

We are supposed to FINALLY go to Europe (Rome, Istanbul) in September, but we haven't booked anything yet (waiting on passports) and now I'm not so sure it's a good time :(.  I'm working, but in the middle of a job search, and I'd hate to book everything...only to have started a new job 1-2 months earlier and possibly not be able to get the time off.  Quandries.
