The debate....

Going to stay away from politics overall, but this is sooooo painful to watch.

I really wish there was less gossip, rumors and jabs at each other. I want to know actual political stances!!!

  • Trump can't seem to complete a sentence. It's just a bunch of blurbs.

Yes!! I wish they just followed the rules (of time, of not yelling/talking over people) and talked about THEMSELVES not how they are not the other one.

  • I'm a conservative but I'm not a Trump fan.  The debate started out okay but Trump's thin skin got the best of him and he went off on tangents that don't matter.  He missed opportunities to hit Hillary on her policies (private email server, mishandling classified info, ect.).

I'm surprised with Tump saying how much he "knows money" he didn't attack her on how she was going to pay for the "debt free college" and other big government programs she is a fan of.

I'm just amazed that out of all of the smart people in this country THESE are our two choices to run the country.

  • I lean left but have never liked the Clintons. I'm glad the server issue didn't drag on. I mean we all know she screwed up, she's admitted it, and I'm pretty confident her emails/servers/technology will be ridiculously secure from now on because she's learned her lesson. Trump did not look at all presidential. I mean when he tries to negotiate these trade deals, is he going to get all flustered?

I have to say I completely disagree about the email server issue. She should be in jail for what she did or at the very least have her security clearance revoked making her ineligible to be president/hold a government position. I work for the government and if I ever did what she did I would be fired so fast and my security clearance would be revoked, there is also a good chance I would be in jail and I don't even have access to the level of information she does.

ETA: I'm not trying to get into a political debate on the money boards because really I think we're screwed either way in this election. I just can't stand double standards and how some people can get away with things others couldn't.

  • Half way thru the debate I had to get out a kahlua. Who do you think won the debate?  She seemed calm, collected and prepared so I was assuming she did.  CNN says she did but all these other polling places says Trump did.

I'm not crazy about either candidate this year but I do feel Trump could have called her out more because gee well she has so much scandal that comes with her.  Maybe he's waiting for the next debate.  I did like the point he made about her releasing her 33,000 emails and then he would release his tax returns.

This is exactly how I feel.  I'm fairly conservative, but can't stand Trump.

  • My favorite was when Trump said he's smart by not paying federal taxes.

My second favorite was, after Hillary talked about how many people lost their homes in the last recession, and mentioned how Trump said he hoped it would happen so he could buy real estate for cheap, he said "well that's just good business".

I'm not a big fan of either one, but I definitely know who I like less.
  • I don't disagree with you. If Clinton were running against pretty much anyone but Trump, it would be over. But sadly that is not the case.
  • The thing I find really interesting this election season is the number of people I have always thought I had a lot in common with and I'm now realizing that we actually have extremely different views on politics and how the country should be run. I might be in the minority on this board but I'm super duper liberal (although I have voted Republican in local elections when the Dem option wasn't appealing so I'm definitely not a blind party voter. Although Massachusetts Republicans are mostly reasonable so that helps) and was pro-Bernie but haven't hesitated to back Clinton now.
  • I also find the number of people voting against a certain candidate versus for a certain candidate really interesting too. I think there is always a little choosing the lesser of two evils in politics but I think that has been inflated this year with these two.

Agreed.  I hold a clearance.  It is drilled into us yearly if not more often that you don't do stuff like this.  Clearances would be revoked and we'd be in jail.  People have gone to jail for much less than this previously, but not her.

Same here.  Most of our friends are republicans, although many are not super right wing or anything.  People also assume H is a conservative, when he's not.  He just looks like one ;)

A friend, who is a republican who backed Ted Cruz, made an interesting observation about why he's now backing Trump.  He said he doesn't really like Trump that much, but he likes what Trump stands for (or at least supposedly stands for, who knows really), and that's the conservative values.  He's supporting Trump because he looks at, for example, who Trump would put in the Supreme Court.  Chances are, that Justice will at least have conservative views.  For me, it's the same thing w/ Hillary. I may not care for her that much, but I do care for the views she (again, supposedly) holds in the topics I care about.  So yeah, it does become a lesser of two evils and at this point, people should vote on the issues, not the actual candidate.

For my friends that don't follow politics or vote the supreme court appointments are always one of my big arguments as to why they need to pay attention!

Politics aside, it cannot be denied that Hillary was far more composed and actually answered many of the policy related questions in the end. She threw some jabs, but stayed focused and on topic.

I don't think that Trump ever fully answered a single question he was asked. He deflected, redirected and flat out lied about things (check NPR's fact check website).

So the fact that people think Trump "won" the debate is greatly disturbing because that shows that people in our country do not understand what the debate series is actually for.

I'm really confused by how he "won" as well. I felt that Hillary definitely dominated in the second half of the debate. Maybe my problem is I was following along on NPR's live fact check as well and many of the claims Trump made were called out as false.

I heard on the radio this morning that Hilary won 59% to 41%.  There must be different polls.

I was waiting for the radio to discuss the "other" category where people polled said that no one won...but I guess that wasn't a choice!

  • Remember everything is backwards this election cycle - nothing can be easily predicted.  Even as much as I don't care for Clinton I felt she had great composure of herself.  I was trying to remember how cruz and rubio composed themselves in the beginning of primaries with him and I think they kinda laughed him off until they realized he was still gaining in polls.  The future polls will be interesting.
  • I can't remember the last time I watched SNL, but it is going on the DVR this weekend.
  • So this was amazing...I got home last night and only realized there was a debate AFTER I signed into Facebook and read comments. Yes, head under a rock, but I do have a four week old baby. Anyway, I am glad I missed it and have no desire to watch it now. I'm voting for neither of them. My dad has his absentee ballot already and he showed it to me. There's actually 7 or 8 candidates. He's very conservative but he is voting for Gary Johnson who is very fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. I sent away for ours. I'll just do some research once it arrives. And don't forget, there's other offices on it too for your states. Maybe some state amendments too to vote for.
  • I just read that trump threatens to not be at the next 2 debates if Hilary is there and if it's unfair. I guess he felt he was treated unfairly last night.

Ha, further proof he isn't fit for politics or a presidency. He can't play nice in the sand box and throws a fits when it doesn't go his way. What would he do if a major diplomatic meeting were being held and he didn't like the people? Not attend and represent our country? Life is full of unfair moments, that doesn't mean you do not do your job. Be an adult, put on your big kid pants and get over it.
