Monday Accountability

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards goals?

3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election?

Re: Monday Accountability

     1. 74 Groceries, $100 Target (sweaters).

    2. Nothing, we get paid this week. Hopefully my bonus will be in there...

    3. May the best MAN win!

  • 1. The weekend was decent for MM.  We spent $40 at Aldi because we decided to splurge on some things like flowers.  Sunday we went out to dinner with friends at Cheesecake Factory.  I had some money left on an old gift card so that was only $34.

    2. We had a fairly low spend weekend so that will help with our goal to minimize expense/increase savings.
Our German Phd arrived and she is really nice.  I think we will enjoy having her for the month.

    3. I took an online poll last night to see the candidates that I matched up best with.  It was depressing because it was candidates going back to the primaries and the top few for me didn't make it to the ballot....what could have been with different primary results :(
On the plus side I get an early out from work to encourage voting.  I am swamped so not sure how early I'll get to leave but I will make sure it is earlier than 5pm.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? It was ok- groceries ($118.. although I forgot a bunch of things, which is why it was only $118), ON/Gap/BR ($100 - friends and family weekend.. needed some new shirts, pants for DH)

    2. Any progress towards goals? nothing financial this week. Bathroom is still coming along.

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election? To quote Kate McKinnon, "We can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in"

  • 1 - pretty good - Friday dinner out $35 and Sunday $10 at an event at our yoga studio

2 - none on the financial side.  We did go to blue cross on Friday to find out only 2 plans are available for us on the ACA.  the bronze has an OOP of $14k (no thanks) and the silver has an OOP $1100.  It will be more in premium for us.  We are paying $90/month now - in Jan we will pay $269 a month.  I'm calling our providers today to see if they take Cigna.  That's a new provider on the exchanges for 2017.  If they don't then we are pretty much only with blue cross.  I'm sad that health care keeps going up in price and that most of the providers have already pulled out of the marketplace.

3 - I'm going out tomorrow morning around 10am and vote.  I do have thoughts but I don't want to offend anyone here.  I'm just kinda sad that we couldn't of had better candidates to pick from.
  • 1.  Not great.  H is at a conference this week so we went buck wild with the takeout.

    2.  Yes, H's check went toward out current savings goal and to incidentals associated with our upcoming vacation.

    3.  I voted yesterday.  #ImWithHer

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Eh...a little spendy. Between a few meals out, Costco, and the liquor store we spent about $350. But one of those meals was because my mom was in our area so we treated her to dinner.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Um. Well..I've gotten 3 positive FRERs over the past 3 mornings!! Still have my beta on Thursday but we are pretty excited - I'm in denial that this might actually be finally happening!

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election?  I'm ready for it to be over and #imwithher.

    Congrats!

    1.  A little spendy.  Friday bought gas $33. Friday night we went to dinner w/ the neighbors: $40  Saturday afternoon hockey game: $10 for parking  $30 for food afterwards.  Saturday evening went and spent the night at my BFFs in the mountains, which was free except the gas to get there.  Sunday, went to the new grocery store that opened down the road from our house, what a zoo.  But they had some good sales and a bunch of drawings to enter, so I braved the crazy LOL  Groceries were $95 (with a savings of $63 according to my receipt!), and I went and head and got more gas since they were offering 20 cents off per gallon for the grand opening weekend, that was around $20.

    2.  Moved $150 to savings

    3.  I'm ready for it to be over.  H dropped off our ballots a week ago.  #imwithher.  The political ads were the worst part of watching the World Series.

We did have some interesting props to vote on here in CO on the state level.  One is for assisted suicide, and another is for a gradual minimum wage increase to $12/hour.  So I'm curious to see how those turn out.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not bad. $20 for drinks/apps with my parents on Friday, $30 at a bar Saturday, $5 for raffle at church, $20 weekly donation to church, $50 on groceries.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not financially, but I talked with my mom about some things that have been heavy on my mind and I think I found some clarity. Time will tell, but at least I feel better about things right now.

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election? I won't divulge who I voted for, but I will say that I'm not thrilled with any of the candidates. And I'm dreading coming to work tomorrow and Wednesday because my coworkers overwhelmingly lean the opposite direction of me and there seems to be this clique of people to vote the same way, who don't know how to be professional about it in the workplace. Ugh. I want to crawl under a rock and come out in 4 years.

  • 1. Except for a $320 car repair, not bad. $120 on groceries, but that included a huge stock up at the butcher. We won't buy meat for about a month now.

    2. $500 to savings this week.

    3. I'm just happy to not have to be at work this week. So many clients think it's appropriate to come in and talk politics; I can only imagine how bad it's going to be tomorrow. Really, I'm astounded every time someone brings it up in conversation. What sort of response do you think you're going to get from a representative of a corporation in a professional setting?  I will neither agree nor disagree with you. Honestly, I'm not even listening to you, I'm just politely waiting for you to stop talking.

  • @LillibetteV- congrats!  Hope it sticks and everything goes well on Thursday.
  • @LillibetteV Congratulations and sticky baby vibes! Good luck this week!

    1. How MM was your weekend? It was ok. Normal budgeted shopping - dog food, groceries, small hardware store trip, and I managed to only spend $35 at the plant nursery.

    2. Any progress towards goals? I dropped money into my Roth IRA ahead of the election. So...either it's going to do really awesome in a couple of days or tank...but I guess it's better than letting it sit in savings doing nothing at all.

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election? I'm so ready to be done with this whole thing. I voted last week. We have a bunch of local propositions and amendments and I'm nervous for a few of them. I think I'm going to be up all night tomorrow watching results come in.

  • @labro I did exactly the same thing!

    1) Spent about $200 on groceries, gas, movies, a toy for our niece, etc.

    2) I invested in our Roths.  I wish I had bought on Thursday, but I bought Friday.  Still, I managed to catch the uptick today.

    3) I'm actually still undecided.  I can't stand either one of them, so I might just vote third party.  Or I might vote based on VP candidates since I think either one of them could get impeached.  Or I might not vote for the president at all and worry about our local elections.  We have a bunch of judges up for reelection.  I live in Alabama, so my vote doesn't matter at all for the presidency, but it does matter for our local elections.

FYI, the odds of hillary winning are really high.  So regardless of how you vote personally, you might want to buy today.

you mean buy stocks today?  Will they go down if she wins or if either wins?

Stocks are more likely to go up if Clinton wins since Wall Street considers her to be the more stable bet.

The market is up over 2% today on the expectation that she will win tomorrow.  She is the favored candidate because her views on trade are entirely predictable (Trump's are not).  Of course, if she doesn't win, that's going to be bad news for the markets.  Who knows.  I'm personally willing to bank on a Hillary win.  The market has absolutely sucked the last few weeks, and the post-election rally has already started.

    1. How MM was your weekend?

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    1. Not great, but needed services/things.  Took the cat/dog to the vet for their annual shots.  $207, including the "good" (ie expensive) flea/heartworm medicine for the dog.  $83 on groceries, but that included 11 lbs. of center cut pork loin for $16!  Many cheap dinners with that.  McD lunch for H and I, $10.

$31 at the groomers for the pup and $15 for a new pup toy and treats.  We got her groomed at a new Petco that opened up in a new strip mall.  I had a 25% off coupon.  $20 at a new wing place (same strip mall).

    2.  Paid the mortgage and cash-flowed the weekend expenses.  I also have $1200 earmarked for part of my HELOC payment, but am waiting until after this month's due date so it goes towards my Dec. payment.

    3. I'll just be glad its over.  I'd be mildly excited about Hillary, if it wasn't for all her e-mail/lack of security problems.  I'll be watching the results tomorrow evening, which I don't normally bother doing.  I'll be pulling out the hard stuff for my beverages of choice.

I am VERY curious to see if Louisiana goes blue, for once.  We're a pretty red state, but we universally despised our last Repub. governor (Jindal) and there is a lot of dislike for Trump.

I feel very clear cut with the candidates running for state/local positions.

Just for anybody who is undecided, I ended up choosing based on issues, rather than the person themselves, since I didn't really like either one as a person.  But, I thought about what issues I really cared about, and where those candidates stood with those.  Since that Supreme Court spot is up for grabs (and hypothetically there could be at least one more in the next 4 years), it's pretty important to me to get a candidate in there that aligns with my personal views (once I throw out the political rhetoric and crap talk about stuff that doesn't even matter).
  • @short+sassy A friend of mine just shared the following recipes to help everyone get through Election Night. I already have all the ingredients at home so I'm definitely making the brownies!

Red Wine Brownies with Drunken Cranberries

    Red Wine Hot Chocolate

Great idea!  I especially like the hot chocolate choices.  Since its fall...not that the weather feels like it...I've been enjoying hot apple cider mixed with Crown Royal Apple.  Pretty simple, but super delicious.
  • @short+sassy I'll be drinking too!  My plan is to vote in the morning, yoga at noon, be home for our furnace guy to do our annual check up and then the drinks flowing.

I just remembered that I spent $50 on a seat filler membership.  We were hoping to get theater tickets on Friday night so I bought it.  We didn't get the tickets but some just opened up for tomorrow night so we are going then.  Thank you election night for slow ticket sales!
We also reserved tickets for a concert later this month so the membership has already more than paid for itself and we still have 3 more event spots available with our 5 event membership.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

We went to Newport Vineyards on Friday (we were both off) and got free tastings (Seriously 5 tastings which were about 1/2 a glass each), spent $55 on lunch there, and then $160 on a case of wine (actually 199 for the case, but 3 bottles went to my parents).  With that wine, we will basically stay in all month instead of going out.  I also spent $120 on groceries.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

I didn't work last week (unpaid, week between jobs) so...no.  H worked 66hours34minutes between 10/28 and 11/2 so that helps make up some difference.

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election?

We voted last week.   I'm focusing on the questions on the MA ballot because they don't scare me like the presidential results.

@LillibetteV First off, Congratulations!  Second, How do you think the questions will go in MA?  We were talking about it last night, I'm curious what others think.  Not necessarily how we voted, but we think no on 1 (casino), no on 2 (charter schools), yes on 3( the chicken one haha I can't remember what it really is), and yes on 4 (the marjuana legalization.)

  • @kmurphy2131 I love Newport Vineyards! Also check out Greenvale Vineyards nearby in Portsmouth. Best wine in RI in my opinion!

    1. Lots of little expenses. $8 on brunch with a friend, $10 to go to a college hockey game with another friend, $9 for ice cream and water at said hockey game. Really not too bad though.

    2. With our new cash-only budget, an unexpected $40 expense yesterday slightly reduce what I can put into savings this week. I'm thinking that since we're fully cash-only now, I may need to leave a $100-$200 buffer in the checking account instead of staying zero-based like I was before.

    3. I'm nervous. My preferred outcome is likely, but I'm that person who doesn't count my chickens until they're hatched. Of course my vote doesn't matter at all, but I'll still go and do my duty.
  • @kmurphy2131 well I voted no no yes yes so I hope you're right! hahaha. I'm sad to say I think 1 will pass. I really can't tell how 2 will go - it was the one question that I struggled the most with. I can see 3 failing only because a lot of people are concerned about the impact on the cost of meat. 4 could go either way - most of my friends voted yes, but I know my mother (a woman who occasionally uses it herself) voted no because she doesn't think the state is ready to handle implementation. She's happy that we have medical marijuana and decriminalization for under an ounce and thinks we need more prep before going for full legalization.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

    • So so. Went to my brother's wedding. So between gift, hotel and gas, probably spent about $200.
    • Also went to Costco to buy a chicken and $100 Bonefish gift card (only cost $79.99).
    • Ordered pizza and wings on Friday night $17

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    • Honestly, we need to set new goals. Everything is set on autopilot right now, so we have our standard savings and retirement allocations, but we aren't "working toward anything." The plan is to spend our week off over Thanksgiving break to meet with a Financial Advisor and establish new goals.
    • DH doubled his car payment, so that should help pay it off sooner.

    3. Any last thoughts before tomorrows election?

    • It's Election day and I cannot wait for all of it to be over.

  • @Xstatic3333 thanks for the tip!  We will have to check it out!  We are about 1.5-2hours north of there, so it's a common day trip for us
