NMMR birthday party opinions wanted
I turn 39 next year and am thinking of having a 39th birthday party. Opinions wanted on if that is silly and if I should just wait until I turn 40 in 2018.
For context, H and I have small get togethers at our house a few times a year (10-15 people usually watching football or hockey) because we like to entertain. We have gotten into a kind of pattern of having a bigger, blow out party (30+ people) every other year. I guess that is just about when we feel energy and budget ready to do it. First we had a summer party in 2011 when we were dating. Then in 2013 H turned 40 and we had a party at our house that we had just moved into about a month prior. We also got married and had a reception in 2013. In 2015 we had a Christmas party at our house.
Doing it at 40 kind of makes more sense but on the other hand is there really that much of a difference between 39 and 40? 2018 will be a big year for us with our 5th anniversary anyway (and probably a big vacation to celebrate).
Also, neither of us is really into birthday parties on a regular basis. The last time I had one was at age 25 and when we decided to do H's 40th he said he hadn't had a birthday party in his modern history. If we have a birthday party for my birthday it may be a very long time before we have another one for either of us.
