MMR: Best Holiday Gift Purchase!

Wow is it depressingly slow these days!

So, let's share the best deal you got while buying holiday gifts this season.

Personally, I bought my niece a Finding Dory coloring kit with over 200 pieces in it at Costco. Regular $20, bought it for $9.97.

We don't buy gifts for each other and the adults, so that's really the only thing I have purchased this year. Please share your deals!

  • The baby alive doll that poops - we got it for $36 and it was originally $50.  30% off at target plus red card.
  • My H wanted Gears of War 4, this weekend I picked it up for $30.00 at Target down from the $60 it usually is.

  • We got the girls kid kindles for X-mas- buy one, get one 50% so $150 for 2. They come with a case around them, a 2 year warranty, and a trial subscription for an educational app... DH and I are going to set them up Friday night so they are ready to go once they open them.

  • Our Christmas is kind of lame this year in that H and I each picked out our own gifts. That said, the best deal I found was on the Kitchen Aid mixer and accessories I picked out. I found the ceramic bowl on clearance for $20 originally $70. The mixer I picked was a little more expensive, so I bought a different color and saved $50.
  • I got my mom a Keurig from Bed Bath and Beyond, using a 20% off coupon stacked with an 8% in-store rebate from Ebates.  I picked up discounted gift cards for my staff and H's family's secret Santa exchange at Costco
(plus a few for ourselves).  Brother got a new XBox at $50 off plus two games and a $30 Microsoft gift card.  And I snagged a bunch of new suits from The Limited for myself at 80% off.

  • Our Christmas is pretty lame too. I bought DH a new belt and he "bought" me two new pairs of jeans (I picked them out myself and took care of ordering them too).

I'd say one of my better deals was a Shark Cordless Hand Vac as a gift for my ILs. It was marked down to $49.99 on Cyber Monday plus I got something like 10% cash back through ebates and free shipping. It wasn't exactly AMAZING or anything though.

My wife bought herself a Kate Spade purse telling me it was her Christmas present and not to buy her anything.  I'm thinking it's a trap.....

  • Hmmm - I just realized H and I can paint our basement bathroom tile white for about 1/10 of what it would cost to hire somebody, on a similar timeline.  Does that count?

Otherwise, most of my Christmas shopping was done in Amsterdam.  No deals, but Delftware is cheaper there than here.

  • We got MIL a nice All Clad pan on a seconds sale (looks totally perfect). Suggested retail price $280, but we paid $100. She was all about ours when she helped us clean up at TG so we know she'll love it.
  • Those Costco art sets are the BEST.  I'm sad that we aren't seeing H's nephew this year, I usually get him one.  I got him a Cars one last year.  He's probably a bit old for them now anyway.

I don't really have any great bargain gifts this year.
  • Haha well, that would mean I will have had to actually Christmas shop.
Seriously, I just finally ordered MIL's gift this morning off Amazon. We still need to get FIL and SMIL something but they just buy everything they tell us they want.  So I'm ready to just hand them a card with cash on Christmas.

Probably a big MM win is that my parents and us talked and we aren't getting each other anything.  Instead we want to go somewhere or do something as a family.  We're looking at maybe getting away the weekend of January 15th over the anniversary of my brothers' death.  Have no clue what we're going to do or where we're going to go, but my parents have said they'll take care of it.  So that's a huge win.

  • I bought DH the Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon.  It is normally $150 and Amazon had it on sale for $130!

I made some Christmas presents this year, but I'm not sure that "saved" money since I had to buy supplies, but so far the ones I've given have been well received.

  • Our grocery store has a program where you can get a free or discounted item each week if you register your card.  It was free gift wrap the other day and we found a roll that is adorable and has our kind of dog on it.  My favorite thing we "bought" this Christmas season and it was free!
  • Ashamed to admit on MM but I probably spent more than I should have this Christmas. I know 2016 has been a difficult year for a lot of people in my life so I wanted to brighten up some peoples' days this holiday season. No regrets :)

I happened to be at an outlet mall while visiting a friend and walked into the Kate Spade store only to find that everything in the store was 70% off. I stocked up on jewelry, pajamas, scarves and gloves for friends, a purse for my SIL and a matching purse and wallet for my mom. I also scooped up a new winter parka for myself since I had been looking for them and they happened to have a coat that was normally $700 down to about $200 due to the 70% off sale.

I spent $6-700 in that one store, but it knocked off birthday and Christmas gifts for every female on my list, and checked off my purchase of a new winter coat!
