Sweet Potato Fries update

So I put olive oil, season salt and cinnamon and baked at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. They turned out really yummy. The only problem was they weren't very crispy. I even soaked them in water for a little like recommended. I think next time I'll use the broiler for a little bit.

Re: Sweet Potato Fries update

  • Glad they turned out good! I have found, at least for me that even the frozen ones dont turn out terribly crispy. It could just be the lower sugar/starch content of the potatoes. Hmmm...or could be that I have never used the broiler...lol

  • Thanks for the update, I'm bummed to hear the soaking didnt help. Your initial post (and afternoon work boredom) had me googling and some people said olive oil wasnt the best oil option because it gets soaked up and using other oils would be better? Again no idea how true it is but I'm determined to find a way to make them crispy. I'll have to try broiling them next time too.
  • I am not sure if baked ones would get as crunchy as deep fried ones.  I would assume the ones you get out at a restaurant are probably deep fried which would make them nice and crispy but also really bad for you.  I think I cranked the heat up a little bit at the end to help with the crispiness.

  • the frozen ones always take a long time to bake, even at 400 degrees - I turn them over about halfway through, don't know if that helps?
