XP: Filing complaint with ebay
Has anyone ever had to file a complaint with ebay? I bought an antique sewing machine base from a seller with 100% positive feedback. It arrived yesterday in about 7 broken pieces. The idiot put it in a box with no packing materials...antique piece in a box...that's it! I was pissed. He didn't even write "fragile" or "this end up" on the box.
I sent him an email with pictures and told him if he didn't respond within 24 hours I was contacting ebay. Do I have any recourse to get my money back? Do I go through paypal or ebay? Does it take forever? Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: XP: Filing complaint with ebay
Good luck. Years ago I bought something on ebay and there was a problem. Basically right after the listing ended Ebay notified me that they had pulled the listing because it was fraudelent and they were going after the seller but it was already too late because I was always very prompt with payments after the end of an auction and had paid through Paypal. I tried filing complaints with both to get my money back and it was such a PITA and I never did get my money back. I actually stopped using them at all.
I would file complaints with both parties though. Maybe you'll get lucky and they have changed their practices since the time I had my bad experience.
Wait to see if you get a response from him (give him a day or two in case he hasn't check his email). I shipped a ceramic statue once that was broken during shipment to California (I had it wrapped in bubble wrap and peanuts but it still broke). When the buyer told me I refunded his money on paypal because I do not want to give up my 100% rating (it was not much, less than $20). I sent him a message through ebay telling him I refunded his money (including shipping) and that I was very sorry the item was damaged in shipping. I may have had insured the item too, I usually do, but I didn't pursue it with the post office because it was not much and I had a good week that week on ebay so I was ok with the loss.
If you don't hear back from them then file a complaint through ebay. I am not sure on the ebay policy about items damaged by shipping/insufficient packaging. Did you pay for insurance?
What is their number rating? I am curious, because if it is high and they still have a 100% they should be willing to work with you.
I once had a problem with a seller that didn't respond or ship the item at all. I got my money back through Paypal without any trouble at all. Paypal is great.
Good luck!
