Not that I know anyone who's had one.

Or had to doctor their bum.

And keep it clean and bandaged.

    Nope.

    You're funny.

Dunno what you're referring to. ::::whistles out of post:::

Oh, AND his doc referred to me as his wife (I was not) and then was like "Wow, you're amazing". Yeah, he OWED me. Big.

My best friend has also had pilonidal cysts.  We both got our first ones around the same time, so we occassionally refer to each other as butt cysters.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.

So no one has had to have full-on surgery for their removal?

Just asking. Not that I know anyone who's had one. Or had to doctor their bum. And keep it clean and bandaged. Nope.

OMG, I can't believe how many people have responded to this. I had to have mine lanced multiple times (I think being an avid softball player for 16 yrs added to the problem) and I also had to have surgery 3 times, the last one, being very invasive. It hurt like he!l. Not the top inch of my ....um...crack is sewn shut. Fun times.

  • I'm surprised to find so many ppl posting too.  Like a few of you guys, I grew up thinking everybody was like that.  sadly, i don't think i realized that until more recently.  It's not like it's something I discuss with people in real life.  I can just see it now? "hey I was wondering... do you have a butt dimple?"  I have no idea if anybody i know has the same thing.  I never knew it was linked to spina bifida either.  Interesting.

Wierd thing is, my mom and doctors never said anything about it to me.  Nothing about it being different, keeping the area clean, etc.  I don't know if this is a cyst or not but I did have something painful a few inches above my dimple in high school.  I had a lot of skin problems (acne, etc) and just figured it was a wierd pimple until one evening in the shower it just broke open and started leaking/bleeding.  It hurt so bad i was crying and didn't want to let anything touch it.  Mom took me to the ER where they numbed and lanced it.  I don't remember any recovery like pp's mentioned tho.  It was more lower back. anybody think it's a cyst?

  • I have this cyst right now and it's in the middle of still draining, it's inflamed and i had surgery  5 months ago . I think it's re a curing but i honestly have no idea . I'm still in high school and im really embarrassed about it , i will probably be left with this ugly scar and i know it but the thing that bothers me the most is .... will any guys like me because i have a ugly scar on my tail bone? ugh i honestly don't know and need some help XD
  • I might honestly be the only one in this thread that still sometimes browses these boards. Anyway, make sure your doctor is aware of another flare up. You might not have another one in your life. You might have many. There's no way to tell. My first surgery had a flare up in about the same amount of time as your occurrence was. It was caused by the wound not being allowed to heal from the inside out. The closed the wound during surgery 1. For number 2 they left it open and my mom had to pack it with gauze every day.

You also won't know what the scar is like. The last surgery was much more invasive. It severed a lot of the nerves in the area and as I said before, about an inch of my crack was sewn shut. It is not pretty, at all. But yes, there will be men (and note I said men, not boys) that will like you. If they take issues with it, they are not worth your time and effort. My husband still married me, scar and all. He helped me through the last surgery, packing the wound, covering the stitched in semi-permanent dressings with plastic before every shower I took for 4 months. There are good guys out there. Anyway, if you check back and see this, I wish you well.
