I don't like the trimester boards

Or at least the first tri. Anyone else not like them?

Re: I don't like the trimester boards

  • I post on the 2nd tri, but it can be very snarky and high schoolish. I don't really mind that so much, you just need to weed through everything to get to the important stuff.

Oh, and I thought the 1st tri board was so so lame....

  • Yeah, there is one chick on 1st tri who stayed up all night worried she had killed her baby because she ate a turkey sandwich with deli meat.

Call me stupid, but why would she be worried about that?

  • When I was pregnant with T, I went on those boards alot. ?But during my 2nd pregnancy, not so much....different vibe, different people.

Just stay here and ask us =)

    ?

  • What I was trying to say... what a nut job! You're not suppossed to eat deli meat but sheesh. It's not going to kill your baby.

I wasn't a huge fan of those boards either. I lurked but rarely posted.

  • The deli meat question is a daily thing over there....so annoying.
  • I could not stand those boards. If I had questions I asked here or friends.I loved baby center too.
  • Other than caffeine, alcohol and sushi, I didn't know there were other foods you could not eat Embarrassed
  • My doc was perfectly fine with me eating deli meat, as long as it was fresh. There's a chance of listeria on cold deli meat. If it makes you feel better, you can always warm it up first.

Omg I was the worst. I didn't know about a lot of things. But that's why there's a million books (which I bought & rarely read). I think I just bugged Val daily. lol

  • I don't actually eat deli meat, LOL. I just felt dumb for not knowing. I've been pregnant for a whopping 5 weeks...how am I supposed to know this stuff!
  • Eh, I'm sure you're far more educated on pregnancy than many people out there. You aren't expected to know everything right off the bat. Pick up a copy of What to Expect When Expecting. I'm sure others have recommended it to you, but I will again. It's a must -have!

Do you already have a good OBGYN?

  • My sister is sending me a box of books and stuff...I think that book was one she mentioned. I don't have an OBGYN...or even a gyno. I have an appt. with my dr. tomorrow to get a referral.
  • I couldn't remember what cheese I could & couldn't eat. It was seriously hard to remember. I still couldn't tell you. pastorized? non pastorized. whatever.
  • Oh ok. I would rec my doc, but I have heard from others that she is not very personable. We have a fabulous relationship with her, but others haven't had the same experience : /

I know you're in our area so I'll recommend Dr.Soliguen for a pedi (I know it's a little early, lol!)

    Brandy - it's unpasturized you're supposed to stay away from. I'm a cheese-aholic.

  • Val- I'm writing that rec down, thanks! I've got a little notebook where I'm recording stuff I'll need for the future.

  • ?Another book rec:

Your Pregnancy Week by Week?by Glade B Curtis ?- I had WTEWYE, but this one was pretty helpful too.?

Oh! and another thing they tell you to avoid eating: Hotdogs =)

  • No lie. I wrote that info on a post it & kept it in my wallet.

*orders dinner* um, is your cheese *checks post it* NON pastorized?

I've eaten two hot dogs every day this week Stick out tongue

  • The tri boards are lame to hang out on but good if you have a question you need answered right away (because sometimes here takes a long time) I went over there from time to time.

  • Alot of the food they tell you not to have is fine in moderation (such as caffeine). As for deli meat and hot dogs, just make sure they're cooked all the way through. My SIL is an OB and I bugged her all the time! As for books, I really liked the Babycenter one.
  • with both pregnancies I ate deli meat and hot dogs. I just made sure the deli meat was sliced right in front of me, ie submarina not subway. And I like my hot dogs burned anyway so that was no prob.

The amount of info can be so overwhelming but don't get too worried. And there are plenty of ladies on this board that can help you.

  • I didn't care for those boards either - although I do lurk on the Toddler board...I found that babycenter.com was helpful as well as the WTEWYE website.

I also freaked myself out with TOO much information, I worried about everything!  Sometimes ignorance can be bliss.  Stick out tongue

As far as food goes...I was so nauseous my first tri I coudln't eat anything but plums, nectarines and cereal - which are all "ok".  Big Smile  After the nausea went away, I still couldn't eat meat (why I'm a vegetarian now) and most other foods - it all just turned my stomach when I thought about them.  (Probably explains a 15 pounds weight gain for the entire pregnancy and my anemia!)

Just ask us your questions on this board...I'm sure you'll get answers right away from someone!

    Lilypie Fourth Birthday tickers
  • ps this is a totally just my experience but with isabel I drank hardly any?caffeine?or soda. With Joaquin I drank caff about 2-3 times a week and soda about 4-5 times. Isabel hardly ever spit up and never really got indigestion of any sort. Joaquin spits up ALL the time.

I don't know if there is any connection between the two but it's really the only diff between the two preg?

  • I've had deli meat on occasion, I had a hot dog yesterday. I have had blue cheese as well. I haven't had sushi though. It is all in moderation. I wasn't a fan of the 1st tri board. I lurked on the 2nd tri and now on the 3rd tri.

I like the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. I have 2 pregnancy books, What to Expect, and Your pregnancy week by week. I like the Mayo Clinic one the best. They all have a lot of the same info, but I liked how the Mayo Clinic one was organized.

My OB is Dr. Easter's office in Upland. I think they are called Women's Medical or something like that. I like all 3 OBs there and it seems like everyone in the area goes to them because when I was asking around they were the one to see. Our peditrician is going to be Dr. Soliguen (thanks Val!). He is highly rec by many of my friends.

AMEN! I once read in a book how eating food from cans you open w/can openers are bad. Something about the metal going into the food. Freaked me out. That was the last time I picked up a pregnancy magazine.

  • While I was in Paris I ate non-stop unpasteurized cheese and P's just fine. Seriously like non-stop. Of course I didn't know I was pregnant.

Unpasteurized products and raw fish I would defiantly avoid during pregnancy.  All cheese products in US have to be pasteurized FYI.

I ate Turkey sandwiches from Subway once a week and ate hot dogs. While pregnant. I abstained from caffeine and alcohol the first Tri but after that just limited my caffeine and had, maybe 4 or 5, drinks during my pregnancy.

My mom informed me she ate nothing but chili hot dogs while pregnant with me because it's the only thing that tasted good and, although I'm defiantly twisted, I don't think the chili dogs did any damage.

I think excessive worrying can do more harm than a fresh Turkey sandwich.

  • Oh and the first Tri boards are only tolerable for about a day or two. Then you realized how repetitive they are.

Plus I hated being the oldest one there by about a decade. Stick out tongue

  • imageMrsRebecca:

I ate deli meat every day after I was diagnosed with gd, and Rachel is fine. I had caffeine now and then too.

  • Yep i'm just gonna say what everyone else says....just post your question here, most of the time you have to really sort thtough the tri boards...lots of snarky people out there... :-)  I don't really go over there anymore...jjust once in a while to lurk :-)

and try not to stress abotu EVERYTHING, like said moderation...my first tri i was too sick to worry about anything....but now....caffiene HAS to be on my list of (in moderation) things especially working nights....I would never be able to make it! :-)

GOod luck to you and again ask us!  I'm sure your gets lotts of info! :-)
