Re: s/o: TTC - Poll

  • This is a good poll. Are there any other mommy to be's hiding out there??? :)

  • Part of me really wants children, but like I've said earlier, we are the anti-TTC right now. We are just not at the point in our lives to have kids - I want DH to finish school (he's working on his master's and may want to do the PhD thing) and I really want to find my first real job in my field and enjoy working for awhile. I want to be a SAHM, so I want to enjoy some time out in the workforce for awhile.

It will be fun though once we have more than a couple expecting mom's around here though :)

Sorry Nicki!  I added an option for you, if you didn't vote yet!

  • You also missed "already have kids". Wink I fit into another category, though!
  • We are TTC b/c of our age, wish us luck!
  • We are TTC.  We've both been very botb since our legal ceremony in September.  We lost our unplanned (but very welcome) baby in April and that kind of cemented our plan to TTC right away.  I'm only 28, but Dennis is 38 and he doesn't want to be a really old dad.
  • We are in the "if it happens, it happens" camp for now.(not on BC, not trying, but would be thrilled if it were to happen)  We will be a little more active in our efforts this fall once we are settled in our house.  It will be a hectic couple of months for us with packing and moving, so it's not a big deal to me to wait a little bit longer to really give it our best effort.
  • As much as I would absolutely love to get pg right now, DH wants to wait a year or so.  There are some things that we'd like to get done to the house, plus he's been really wanting to buy a classic corvette (1971 chrome bumper StingRay) for us to enjoy and knowing him, he'd feel guilty buying a "toy" if we had a baby on the way Stick out tongue

I know lots of May ladies already have kids - I'm just curious who's actively trying or planning to try for their first or more kids now that the weddings are over!

  • We'd like to wait a year to start trying and most people know that.   Although I kinda wish we hadn't told people that we are waiting a year because I'm afraid everyone will be nagging about this time next year.  Ah well.  He just turned 30 and I'll be 30 in December so we don't want to wait too much longer than that.  Plus we have the house already with the 4 bedrooms so we don't have much else to wait for.  We just want to enjoy being married for a little while before we start our family.

Good luck to those trying now!

  • I wouldn't mind having a "happy accident" right now, but DH wants to wait. I'm on BC, but I just filled my last prescription so I need to see my OBGYN this month.  I would love to go off BC permanently (I've been on it since I was like 14 and I hear how it can seriously mess up your body if you're on it for a long time) but DH doesn't want to start trying for about 2 years, after he has his masters and we've had time to travel and have fun as a married couple.  One of my sorority sisters just told me a few weeks ago that her and her hubby were expecting (they've been married almost 3 years) and I felt a weird twinge of jealousy, but we're only 24, we have tons of time to start a family!

     *Raises hand*

So we found out last week that we are pregnant.  We were in the "if it happens it happens camp"  We are definitely thrilled, but really didn't think it would happen as quick as it did. Our due date is around March 8th.

  • I voted waiting "3-5 years" because that's what I want. If DH gets his way, it'll be longer! I think five years would be the best time for us to start though, since we'll be 27 and it'll give us some time in case we have any problems.
  • Hubby would like to wait at least 2 years before we start TTC. I would be fine with it now. He wants time for use to enjoy our time together before we add kids to the family. We have everyone asking when we're going to have one even though we told them we're waiting a few years. Everyone knows how bad I want kids. It's gotten worse now that my sister is pg. Our families and a few friends think that we'll be pg by Christmas. Other friends say by next summer. My co-workers are expecting by August (we have a ton of pg people in our school...seriously, at least 4-5 babies born a school year among my co-workers).

  • We were going to start this fall but have a few obstacles in our way now (haven't sold the condo yet, DH lost his job a few weeks ago, need to pay off the credit card). So we are going to try next summer. We are not on BC right now, just keeping track of which days are ?off limits?

  • I'm in the "Not for another year or so" section.  I want a baby like yesterday.  However, I also want to enjoy married life for a while.  And pay some bills off, mainly my car which is next summer.  And that works out because I have lots of friends with babies that I can hang out with, haha.  I'm 24 and Brett's 30 and he wants kids before he is 35, so 1 1/2 years is a good amount I think.  Although I'd be elated if I got pregnant now.  After the shock of "wow, my bcp failed, I'm a satastic" wore off Stick out tongue

  • We're planning to wait 2-3 years before TTC.
  • Our decision depends on whether or not DH gets into medical school. If he does, we are going to wait 1 year. We want to have our first child between his 1st and 2nd years of school.

Even though I know it doesn't make sense right now for us money and time wise, it doesn't stop me from wishing for one!

  • DH and I just had the "talk" about when to try a few days ago.  We are both almost 30 so don't want to wait too long.  I just started a new job so we will make sure that stays steady, and would like to take one more vacation at the end of the year, and then we will start trying.

  • I have really bad baby fever!  Unfortunately, I just graduated from law school with no job, no prospects, a bad market, and lots of debt.  DH still has 2 more years before he finishes.  I figure I'll get a job eventually, and hopefully the market for lawyers won't be so bad when DH graduates.  I plan to go off BC as soon as he starts his first job after law school.

  • Congrats to Jen, Nicki and anyone else who is PG!  Mike and I plan to adopt and will not do so until we are settled in a house--a couple years I'm sure.

  • So I had to make a new name because not all of our family knows yet, but yup we apparently are. We were not trying; it was an oops, but MH is super excited. We just learned about it on the 4th so I am still getting used to the idea. I guess I have 9 months to get used to it. :)

  • We're waiting a few years but I have serious BOTB. While my closest friends are yet to marry it seems like every other status update on my FB is about a distant friend or acquaintance who is having a baby or had a baby and is updating about something adorable they did. Makes me want one. Bad. Embarrassed

Seeing these statuses on FB about my friends just freaks me out! Of course, it doesn't help that a lot of these people are younger than me, my age, or just a year older! I think they're too young!

  • I just want to say congrats to you other ladies who are pg too!! Its exciting to know that I'm not the only one around here getting pregnant so soon! Yay what fun!

  • I'd love to be pg right now but after 18 months off of BC, my body still hasn't regulated itself completely. The DH being 400 miles away is also a complication for the moment.

Kristin, I read what you were saying, and you are young, I agree---but if you have been on BC for that long you might want to consider getting off it now (or soon) because it can take a LONG time. Of course, only if you're prepared for the "it happened the first month after the BC" baby too. I just have a lot of friends and now myself, who have gone through a lot of issues because we were on BC for so long.
