Ok ladies I need your help. I have been taking birth control for about
5 months now. Every month the side effects get worse, and I am nauseous
nearly everyday. I'm so sick of it, I have an appointment today to
switch. I am currently using Velivet (which is the same as any of
these: Apri, Cesia, Cyclessa, Desogen, Kariva, Mircette, Ortho-Cept, Reclipsen, Solia, Velivet) and is a ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel pill. I'm thinking of switching to Leena (also known as Aranelle, Balziva, Brevicon, Estrostep Fe, Femcon FE, Genora 1/35,
Jenest, Junel 1.5/30, Junel Fe 1.5/30, Junel Fe 1/20, Leena, Loestrin
21 1.5/30, Loestrin 24 Fe, Loestrin Fe 1/20, Microgestin 1.5/30,
Microgestin FE 1.5/30, Modicon, Necon 0.5/35, Necon 1/35, Necon 7/7/7,
Nelova 0.5/35, Norethin 1/35 E, Norinyl 1/35, Nortrel 0.5/35, Nortrel
7/7/7, Ortho-Novum 1/35, Ortho-Novum 7/7/7, Ovcon 35, Tilia Fe,
Tri-Legest Fe, Tri-Norinyl, Zenchent) which is ethinyl
estradiol and norethindrone. Have any of you had this kind of trouble
and can suggest what you switched to, and if it is available generic?
(Can't afford the $50 price tag of Yaz right now, and have no
prescription coverage for 2 more months until my job insurance kicks
in.)
Re: B/C Pill Help!!
Out of all of the ones you have listed, I have used Estrostep Fe and had no problems with it. The only reason why i switched is because of the cost of the drug. My HI had it in the highest copay tier and they upped the price each year.
I am now on Zovia (its a generic--ethynodiol diacetate and ethinyl estradol) and i LOVE it! I have NO side effects and my period lasts about 36 hours. I pay $10 a month for it but you can get it for $27.99 at most pharmacies.
I would also not recommend YAZ. My doctor sold it to me as this great drug that everyone loves, but I took it for 5 months and was miserable. Terrible headaches, heavy periods....I had a hard time even getting to work the few days when I was on the placebo pill I felt so horrible. (Of course everyone is different, however)
I was on Loestrin before Yaz, and I never realized how great that pill was until I was off it! I called the doctor and he switched me back. So much better, no side effects, 2 day light periods. I take generic form of it and it is really cheap, less than 10 bucks for me a month.
