opinions needed

I'm thinking about starting to watch one or two kids during the day.  Partly for extra money, partly for Elise to have some kids to play with.  I'm hesitant because I've gotten used to being able to just go whenever I want and that would eliminate that possibility.  I could still do it if I just watched one child, with the parent's permission of course.

That said...how much would I even charge for that per week?

Re: opinions needed

  • I dont know if this is the going rate or not.. A co-worker needed someone to watch her son for 1 month (her mother in Law usually does it but is out of town for the month) she contacted a someone in her neighborhood who was a stay at home mom and she is paying her $20 a day.  hope this helps.
  • My niece stays with a stay at home mom/in home day care person. I would first like to say that Kristen (care taker) is FANTASTIC. She has 3 toddlers right now and they work on their letters, take field trips, etc. I think it's a good idea, but you should not stop doing what you currently do with Elise. Your trips to the library, etc are good for them. Perhaps the grocery store not so much. Price wise up here she is comparable with other day care centers, I believe she is $200 a week. But Olive is learning a lot and socializing and really thriving.

  • I got a quote from an in home caretaker and she charged $90 a week.  But she only did "teachers hours".  Personally, I'd be willing to pay $100 a week for a good in-home daycare.  The daycares here charge between $130-150 a week so you'd still be competitive.

But you need to take into account how you're going to feed these kids.  I'm assuming you'd be watching toddlers and not infants so are you going to ask for the parents to provide their kids food?  Or will you just pay for it?  Or will you do a monthly food charge?  My SIL send our nephew to an in home daycare and each parent pays like $40 a month so that the caretaker can get food for all the kids.

  • The sitter I am talking to is $20/day. You only pay for the days you use, and she only does "teacher hours." Not sure if that helps or not...
