Up for debate?

Re: Up for debate?

  • Ok, I also want to add:

angel--mother's intuition is awesome, but if Jenny McCarthy was able to cure her son by changing his diet it wasn't autism.  I'm not saying there was nothing wrong with him, I'm saying it wasn't autism, a disorder that is generally understood to be biological and of the brain.

I have read an interesting study that brain size is a partial correlate with autism.  As in, if your child has a very large head at birth (compared to typically developing peers) it is likely that he or she will have autism, too.

I have also read another interesting study that posits that there are autism-typal characteristics that exist in normal levels throughout the population (including difficulty interpreting social cues, rigidity with regards to schedule, heightened sensitivity, etc.  All the markers of autism).  Normal people may have one or two of these characteristics, but when two of these people get together and make a child, the child may have some combination and demonstrate more.  Then they get tagged with autism.  It explains a lot of the parents of kids with autism I know.

  • We aren't the only ones talking about this stuff today.  Found this on GP:

    http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/24998310.aspx

Talking about the Gardasil vaccine and a researcher who is suppose to be supporting it had people walking away from their talk convinced that it should not be received.

    Edit:for spelling

  • Interesting.  I had not heard that about Gardasil.  I did have a friend who worked on it, though.  I wonder what she thinks.
  • Doctor Admits Swine Flu Vaccine is more Deadly Than Swine Flu Itself, WillNot Give It

Did Fox News come up with that headline? What a terrible headline - as if this doctor speaks for the people who made the vaccine, who have been hiding the fact that the vaccine is going to kill everyone... mua ha ha...

For every doctor that is against it, I'm sure you can find a doctor that's for it. The head of pediatrics at our hospital, who is a nationally renowned pediatric infectious disease doctor, has been promoting free shots at local elementary schools.  I'm sure his expertise is right up there with this guy's. So if I stick him on Fox News, does that automatically make him right?

The H1N1 issue is so recent and not as clear cut, IMO, as the research on autism.  I think every expert's opinion is worth a listen, and we shouldn't all jump to the one person who is featured on national news as the final source.

I am not replying to this to get into a pissing contest. I was kind of over it anyways. But just so the other side is represented. I don't think she has claimed that he's 100% cured. Just that his 'condition' has improved greatly with the diet and environmental changes. She is not even against vaccines, she just says that every child and person is different and reacts differently to certain stimulus and ingredients. And that it probably isn't a good idea across the board to go around giving our kids these shots just because a panel decided it was a good time to. She is more of an advocate of spacing out the shots and waiting to give the MMR. Which I agree with completely.
