If not, why are they your favorite team? I grew up around a lot of Bama fans and it just rubbed off, plus some of my family went to school there. I grew up in a football loving household so it just nurtured my love for the sport, even though my immediate family are Auburn fans!

Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? I do. For me, OSU is more personal because I went to school here and got my degree. I know some of those boys on the football team, so I always want them to do well. I also have a lot of school spirit and am emotionally invested into all of our sports teams, but especially football. Being in Big 12 country and big football country makes it easy to be rowdy and proud for OSU, win or lose. And there's just something about singing the alma mater after every home game that gets to me.

Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? Well, considering most of the people who are from this state are Husker fans, I am not sure. I didn't grow up as a Husker fan, so I wouldn't know. I do know that some of my best college memories are from sitting in the student section at Memorial Stadium though.

If not, why are they your favorite team? my DH is on the athletic staff at Auburn, I work here as well and we live in Auburn. And Auburn is easy to love!
If not, why don't you cheer for your undergrad team? I do, they are my second favorite team but they are much more of a basketball school..
Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? potentially...a good amount of Auburn fans actually did go to Auburn though. I see a ton of Bama fans in this area that have no connection to Bama and are huge fans.

I'm not sure how it's different but I would think it is. Some of my favorite memories of college are games I went to.

I grew up in Texas and raised by a UT alum, so I'm a lifelong Longhorns fan. I attended ND, just not for undergrad. I had season tickets for three years.

It's a D3 school, and I'm bad about keeping up with what's happening since it's not on TV.

Well, I've never even attended a Texas game, so I'm going to go with yes.

If not, why are they your favorite team? I grew up a Buckeye fan, and always will be.
If not, why don't you cheer for your undergrad team? I went to the University of Toledo and I will cheer for them too, but I'm definitely not as into them as I am into OSU.
Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? Yes and no. Being on campus, going to games, etc. definitely creates strong ties, but I'm a pretty crazy-dedicated fan even though I never went there.

They have the money, the publicity and are the "cool" team to like. It really bothers me when people say they are a Duck, but didn't graduate from the school. No. You are a Duck fan. I am a Duck. I don't know why this bothers me so much.

I think people who didn't attend the school they cheer for have more vested in the team's performance, because they made a conscious decision to support that team. Whereas an alum feels more of an obligation to support the team. But I could just be saying that because our team was awful this year. Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? I think going to the school makes non fans become fans, but I think ppl have ties because someone they know cheers for them or they attended games when they were younger.
Do you think that people who went to the school have different ties to the football team than other fans? Yes, a lot of fans who did not go to the school are bandwagon fans. They'll cheer for the team when they're winning, but they won't support them when they're losing. Most don't even step foot on campus and even know the alma mater. I can understand those who have parents or siblings who went to the school will have a closer connection so I'm not talking about these fans. More so the bandwagon fans. When you support a team you're also supporting the school, so in my opinion, you should know about the school.

I do. I think they have the tendency to be more loyal. They tend to stick by their team through all the wins and all the losses, no matter how hard they might be to swallow. Granted, I think that someone who didn't go to school of 'their team' can be a huge fan, but I think there is more of an emotional attachment for those who did attend the school... that's how it is for me, anyway.

There are a lot of people in my community who are Gator fans and have no ties to UF. I think that's pretty common in cities like mine. I don't think they are any less of a fan than I am, but I think they probably had a different experience. It's certainly harder to get affordable tickets if you're not a student.

If not, why are they your favorite team? I was born in Mobile and my mom's side of the family are hardcore Tide fans.
If not, why don't you cheer for your undergrad team? I do cheer for them but the Pioneer League isn't really that exciting. I cheer for them much more in basketball.
