:::Robbi::: and other Kitchen Lovers

So...we still don't have a kitchen.  But in the time/money space continuum, we're leaning more toward the money side and have hired a contractor to help us.

This means that the kitchen design debate has heated up again.  MH likes this dark cherry color cabinet, but wants to go with a dark countertop as well.  I think dark cabinets and dark countertops will be too much dark.

My latest attempt at compromise is to go with espresso cabinets and then a lighter white/grayish granite, shown below.

So, kitchen design experts and fanciests, what do you think?

Re: :::Robbi::: and other Kitchen Lovers

  • I should mention that we have medium-stained oak hardwood floors, a fair amount of light, and white window and french door trim in that room.  Paint color will depend on what kind of color scheme we end up with.  TIA!
  • Personally, I like the contrast of the dark cabinets and light granite, and I think it would look especially nice with the green tiles you were thinking of (it was little green tiles for a backsplash, wasn't it?).

    But honestly, I'm not a big fan of cherry stain on wood (I don't know why?), so that's probably tipping me in your favor as well and I'd likely vote against it in most cases. Stick out tongue

  • And for context, this is the planned layout of our kitchen:

  • I personally think that the lighter countertop would look best with the cherry cabinets.  Not sure how the rest of your house looks (as far as paint & decor goes), but I wouldn't want my kitchen to be the darkest room in the house.  Love the design and I'm sure you will pick out something lovely and it will be nice to see the finished project! :)

  • ooooh I love your kitchen layout!! so jealous.  I think I like the lighter granite no matter what....personally, I like the espresso over the cherry, but both would look good I think.  I just think the espresso looks more modern/contemporary
  • Oh, never mind.  Just when I thought compromise was near, MH decides that he doesn't like white anything, period.  (Cabinets, counter tops, or backsplashes).  And he doesn't seem to believe me and/or care that we will have the darkest kitchen in history.  But I do.  :(
